This is my Homemade Lathe Machine, this Lathe is made up of 75% scrap metal,,I made this machine because, sometimes in my workshop I need a small machine jobs not only small jobs but also light jobs that I need to my DIY/Homemade projects.
The "have to" |can do" attitde goes a long way! Unbeliveable, builds a lathe fron scrapyard parts. Some of these guys would make a great mechanical engineer!!
Dunno how you kept the weld spatter off the ways, but well done. Now you’ve got a lathe you can use it to make some upgrades that will make it better. Some mechanism for oiling the ways and lead screw would be a good start.
If our ancestors had iron, a welder, and an angle grinder 5000 years ago, we would be traveling to the stars by now. The lathe isn't perfect, but it works well enough to make more parts to upgrade it.
Three things make this a outstanding build bro , One - is you made it all from scrap Two - is what you made the Tailstock out of . But the best for me was the scooter engine for the Gearbox Outstanding mate Awesome build 😁😁🤘🤘🤘🤘
Hello, first of all thank you for this very interesting sharing and congratulations on your work and your technical expertise. I just bought a small lathe and I'm wondering if I could make a bigger one, cheaper and that I would be completely independent in repairing it... Your video is interesting because all the steps are very well explained in broad terms, good luck to you, don't hesitate to share your other projects if they are also well documented ^^ Perhaps it would be interesting to offer a plan sheet and dxf file for sale?
Nice video of how to in building a functional engineering appliance with minimum costs and tech. experience ...Not to mention a respected will for completion. This is good example of the tremendous difference between manual machining and the end product.
Appears to have a LH leadscrew on the compound, which correctly advances the tool when you turn the handwheel clockwise. But the cross slide appears to be advancing on a counter clockwise movement, suggesting a RH leadscrew?
Same with the tailstock. Counterclockwise movement advances the shaft, which is backwards from normal machines. You guys spend all this time and effort, you should source LH leadscrew
it's an old idea, there was a commercial lathe sold that used a ford model something gearbox. oddball threads would be hard to use for threading though.
