How to fix the LED daytime running lights

New info: "The headlights are closed with a hot melt adhesive! Heat it up and split the front from the back so you will have clean access to the module. This way you will not damage the integrity of the housing!"
KIA Ceed seems to suffer from a production weakness! The LED daytime running lights are controlled by a control card! This card is too bad and it develops so much heat that it destroys itself! The LEDs start flashing!
The solution is to replace the entire lamps, under warranty. My car has gone out of warranty and new lamps cost a lot.
Fortunately, there are people who have looked at this problem and developed new control cards. Autogamma in Poland, is one of these. The new cards do not generate as much heat, so you do not have to burn themselves.
I bought the cards via e-Bay, from Autogamma in Poland. And in this video I try to make an instruction in English, how to change the cards. All videos I find online are in Russian or Polish. And unfortunately I can't do those languages ....

KIA Ceed ser ut til å lide av en produksjons svakhet! LED kjørelysene er styrt / kontrolert av et kontroll-kort! Dette kortet er for dårlig, og det utvikler så mye varme, at det ødelegger seg selv!
Løsningen er å bytte hele lyktene, på garanti. Min bil, har gått ut av garanti, og nye lamper koster masse.
Heldigviss så er det folk som har sett seg leie på dette problemet, og utviklet nye kontrol-kort. Autogamma i Polen, er en av disse. De nye kortene utvikler ikke så mye varme, og da slipper du at de brenner seg selv opp.
Jeg kjøpte kortene via e-Bay, fra Autogamma i Polen. Og i denne videoen så prøver jeg å lage en instruksjon på engelsk, hvordan bytte kortene. Alle videoer jeg finner på nett, er på Russisk eller Polsk. Og det kan jeg dessverre ikke de språkene....

Greetings from Sweden and Thanks for the inspiration! After seen Your video I finally got to it, and replaced the faulty PCB in my left headlight and now it's up and running again on my KIA Ceed 2014. The absolutely hardest thing was to part the fender from the bumper, but there's not much excessive violence can't fix. Though KIA-dealer is not particulary expensive to change a headlight, they still charge 7500 SEK. My own cost was abt. 500 SEK for a PCB from Poland.

Good evening! Yes, those cars had a 7-year warranty in Norway, and a lot of lights must have been replaced under warranty. But now the guarantees are starting to be completed, and I reckon that replacing a flashlight is more expensive here in Norway, than in Sweden! Well you can find a reasonable solution, so you can still get approved / MOT the cars! Regards Pål

Hello. Yes, KIA and several other car brands have changed many lights on warranty. Today's modern car headlights are so full of technology, that there is a great potential for error. KIA in Norway, has a 7-year warranty, or 150,000 km. My car was driven too far. But very many have received new lights on warranty here. Some are said to have changed twice. Your hopes are much better than those who came first. Regards Pål

God dag! Regner med at vekstedet bare byttet hele lampene. Var mye feil på de lampene, og det gikk på garantien i mange år. Min bil var uten garanti, da ble lampene veldig dyre. Hilsen Pål

Good day. I mean, I've seen a video about this on RU-vid. I have not checked anything about it, as there are so strict rules in Norway to make changes to the headlight. We must have lamps labeled E or DOT and not change them.

Thank you very much for the feedback. If the lights are not enough, water / condensation can enter. Then you can kenakje end up with them filled with condensation / moisture after weather. It will probably be able to damage components in the lights over time. I would try to seal them again. Regards Pål

Hello. It's been a long time since I've done this job. But I think you should actually be able to get the light out by loosening the front bumper at the top, and from the screen and wheel arch. Without taking it off completely. On my car, something had been done to the plate underneath, so the front fender suddenly fell off. It was doable so I broke a headlight washer. The cover of the headlight washers must be removable, but then you have to be very careful with the clips!!! There is probably a screw in particular, which is mounted behind/under the top of the front bumper, which holds the light in place. Greeting Pål (Paul)

Hi guys. I've got the aftermarket headlights in my Audi A4 B7 and DRL strip flashing very weak at sunny day is hardly noticeable. Is it possible to do something with it? DRL strip is built in the headlamp.

Should think that most LED lights have electronics that control them? The question is whether anyone has found any fixes for exactly your lanterns?

Have you had any heat issues with the new board? The heavy metal plate looks like it could have been used as heat sink to protect the board from the heat of the main beams.

Good day! The car is little used, so I can't say with 100% certainty. But it is claimed that the new electronics will produce far less heat than the original. Nor have I heard of anyone experiencing problems with the new electronics. Regards Pål (Paul)

Can be a bad control unit if my light is working only half of led ? like half of led is working half not... sometimes it works fully for a few mins, sometimes it doesnt work at all... ? :)

Good day! One of my lanterns was periodic. Sometimes it came, other times it flashed, then disappeared. The other would almost never turn on. The printed circuit board must be the one that controls the LEDs, then there is a high probability that it is the printed circuit board that has been burned. Unfortunately, more and more common. New cars pack lots of electronics everywhere. Which will be extra challenging to keep the cars on the road, after a few years. Regards Pål

Goddag! Går det inte att montera en vanlig liten lamphållare med 5 watt positionslampa i samma reflektor som helljuset? Finns ett litet förborrat hål vid helljuslampans reflektor på min sambos Kia Ceed 2013 iallafall!

Jeg vet ikke. Kanskje man kan finne mer om dette, viss det var en mulighet noen plasser bilen ble solgt. Ser det er ulikheter på hvordan lys er på bilene i ulike land. :)

@@bildillamagasin Jobbar som besiktningstekniker så det är lagligt i Sverige om positionsljus sitter högst 40 cm från sidan på bilen...så det är ok så långt! Ska se på frugans Kia sen om det går att komma åt att montera bredvid helljuset.. vänster led har börjat blinka så det dröjer väl inte länge innan den slutar å lysa!

Yes, you are probably on the right track. Today's modern car lights are filled with technology. Then the question is how well the electronics that control all the new wonderful functions manage as the years go by? Constantly see modern cars with lighting problems. And it's not just driving by the petrol station to change a light bulb either... But it may well be that solutions can be found for most of the cars out there, without having to break the bank! It takes several hours. You have to get rid of the front bumper. disassembly of the lamps themselves is then quite simple! See there are several solutions on how to get to the printed circuit board in the lamps.

Someone drilled 2 holes and unscrewed the data card. Then they got it out through another opening. This looked very difficult. Got a comment, that you should rather warm the glue, which holds the "glass" up front, if you do this correctly, then it should be possible to get it off completely. You should have good access.

Where is the access cover? Is it the top of the lamp or by the side?

@@BIGGUY401 There are 2 hatches that some use. one on the side towards the center of the car + under the lamp. I cut into the lamp, but several have chosen other solutions!

I avoid commenting, but I couldn't stop myself here ... I am from Bulgaria and for me this is the most wrong and unprofessional way to replace a DRL module !!! The headlights are closed with a hot melt adhesive! Heat it up and split the front from the back so you will have clean access to the module. This way you will not damage the integrity of the housing! ... and that warm silicone that he then uses to seal it ... holy mother! The moment the headlamp develops the temperature will let go... Unless you had to use polyurethane

Good day! Yes, you're probably right. It would be nicer! I see that there are several ways to solve this. This is the fast and brutal way. But far from the prettiest solution! See some make 2 holes, to be able to unscrew the 2 screws. Then they pull out the card we one of the openings. Then there is the solution of using a solder bolt, to melt in, then "weld" the plastic back together.
