How to frame a wall in your basement with these basic techniques can help kickstart your remodel, renovation, or any framing project. This is demonstrated within a new build with an unfinished basement so framing this out is one of the first things to consider when finishing your basement. Framing basics 101.

Can you use adhesive or some other method instead of nailing/screwing through the concrete on the bottom plate? It's not for load bearing walls. I'm worried that those holes will spread existing cracks or hasten how fast the basement floor starts cracking. Especially when nailing through the concrete, where does all the concrete the nail shoves out of the way go?

You *can*. I say that because I personally wouldn't. You would think with gravity and just being like a partition wall it would be fine but some things I would suggest considering: - the cement may not be very clean and might not allow for a good bond - glue shrinks when it dries, could create less than an ideal contact for the wall to stay in place - when trying to put it up, your adding another thing too the bottom of the plate, so if you measure your cuts and it's tight while putting up the wall and need to hammer to get plum, you're going to get glue spread everywhere else before it's final position - if your cuts are short and you have a lot of play, then you run into the struggle of glue being slippery and being to make sure something holds that wall in place long enough to know that wall isn't slipping anywhere, and you may have more than ideal gaps at the top plate because you were trying to work around not smearing the glue too early - cement cracking 'can happen but with the .22 ramshot shells, they do a decent job at not creating new/more cracking. A way around this is screwing them in. You can pre drill a hole then get cement screws with a washer As far as where does the concrete go where the the nail is driven into. When using something comparatively slow like a drill, it digs out the cement as it's drilling. When looking at something fast like a ramset shot, the force is just going to annihilate the cement in the way and either push it down more into the hole as it fastenes or push it to the sides and out where the nail is being driven from (hence safety glasses). I'm not a physics teacher by any means so anyone that has a better explanation go for it. Lol

Hello! I am closing on a new build soon. It is a walkout so the lower part of the wall is cement, the top part is insulated. Would I still have to add insulation to the cement portion or can I just frame right over it?

Personally I would still insulate over anything cement. How cement is so porous, its not a good material to regulate the temperature of your home plus there is the moisture aspect. It comes down to how much of your wall is cement and how much are you okay with having that part of your home allow the possibility of more moisture and the outside temp influence your home temp. In this video the insulation is a cheap and put up by the builders but really is there because its a moisture barrier. After I got done framing this, I added more insulation between the studs to help with temp regulation.

So not lonely is your basement wall already framed and has a barrier on it but you’re going to frame it again? What’s the reason for that? What’s the reasoning?

So the wall that is shown behind me from 0:00 to 0:53 is an interior wall that is shared with another home. The wall that is shown from 0:53 onward has the moisture barrier on it but it isn't framed. This is common with new builds when a basement isn't finished they will leave the exterior walls of a basement not framed. It's less work for them. Hence me framing it and demonstrating how.

Bro not every 16 inchs. 15. 1/4. 31 1/4 47 1/4 keep it on like that.

16 inches on center. If you go from the inside edge to the next inside edge of the 2x4, you'll get the measurement you're talking about 15 1/4 (a 2x4 is actually 1.5in x 3.5. So the center of a 1.5 piece of wood leaves 3/4 in both sides, which if you were to subtract 3/4 from the 16 in that I mention, it comes out to be your 15 1/4)
