How to install a thumb/twist/foot pedal throttle control with LCD voltage display and key switch on an electric bike/scooter. I will show you how to do this on both brushed and brushless motor controller.
Whoever you are Thank you so much - I changed from a brushed to a Brushless and the Blue and yellow wires had me in despair - Now I fully understand how to switch the new controller on - Thank you From Wales in UK xx
OMG THANK YOU!!! You are amazing. Seriously, you are the most informative person I have come across when explaining the throttle and how it connects for the different styles and different controller types.
Having explored this a little while I was still not confident enough with the blue and yellow throttle-switch wires. The 1st part of your video explained it perfectly for me. Thank you!
I can't thank you enough, I've been stuck on my project for a couple of weeks trying to find a way to add a key switch to my ebike. I tried to connect one and blew it up TWICE, I have been scared to try it again. But now that I SEE exactly what to do I can be more confident. Countless diagrams can't replace the actual watching of the wiring. THANK YOU!!!
When I first heard your voice on the video, I smiled. I hadn’t seen your videos in awhile, but always love them. This is exactly how my dad would teach us how to repair stuff. The paper clips scare me every time. I have shorted quite a bit of stuff using them, no matter how careful I am. Thanks for the great work!
I'm new and I have an Evercross H9 scooter 48,volt 14.9aH battery , 28mph with an 800 watt in it, I want to build it so to speak to a 48v 1500 watt and a 1500 watt controller if this is what I need to achieve the speed of 40ish mph..
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. You should be teaching in a class. You explain everything so thoroughly that even a newbie like myself can understand what you're doing. I don't know how you learned all that electronics theory but keep up the great work. Those controllers have so many wires and I didn't think they came with wiring schematics. Anyway, the way you explain things makes it seem so simple and you even show the results of the connections which makes it even better. I would never attempt the things you're doing as I would likely short out the controllers or burn down my house. I know how to use a multimeter but still... I'm a bit careless at times.
I agree with @Douglas K - Your flow is sublime, the way the mind asks questions as the information comes in - you pop in with the relevant answer right on time and then keep going as if you anticipated the question and "plugged in" an "aside". So easy to follow. I believe you are a gifted human being - a teacher.
Bless your heart thank you so much for your time…….. same controller I have and I have been working on this for days it’s crazy. I know how to solder but the hook up one of these you save me a lot of time.. you’re the 15th video I’ve come across I wish your video was number one but I learned quite a bit from the other videos too. Just not how to do this basic for a lot of people which makes it a learning process for me!
Your video is exceptional!! Great work! I thought you'd like to know that even Amazon Customer Service directed me to this video in order to figure out the wiring. I'd already found it, but, I thought you might like to know. Thank you for your appreciated effort.
I bought a couple key throttles, but in 3 years of hit and miss, not working, finding nothing but " your controller isn't compatible" answers. You explained it easy. The Xtra red and red are the key switch, ty,ty,ty and my controllers are reverse blue green for some reason but hot is hot and ground is ground.
Critical thinking is key in life. Don’t expect answers for everything. Trust and verify using your your brain. This guy is gifted and so are you all. Keep thinking for yourself always. Don’t rely on anyone ever. Thanks god bless y’all
Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. I have been planning for a long time to put the throttle with the display and key on my xioami Scooter just for a bit of fun and anti-theft, it's working perfectly. I am totally happy about it. You have explained it so well that it was quite easy for me to follow as a beginner in electrical stuff mostly there are no plans for wiring on controllers and and. Keep up the good work, well appreciated 👍😊 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Fantastic. Mate your video is the clearest I have watched on this subject. You explain thongs extremely well and you get straight to the point. Thanks.
That's just the video I was looking for. Doesn't help me all the way through, because I need to connect a broken 7 wire throttle: pedal assist and throttle and voltage display, with 7 different colours. but I learned a lot. thank You
Good knowledge. People always think it is hard to get two connectors to work, Just cut off the connection that is odd, and solder in the same type. plug it in and go. go showing how red and green are constraint and that the ground wire can change, thats what meters are for.
I connected an e-bike twist grip throttle to a 24V 500 watt ESC for brushed motors and it didn't work. The 3 wire set coming out of the controller were red, black and blue. The wires going into the twist throttle were red black and green. Any ideas why it won't work?
So far, this is the video closest to what I have been seeking for days. My keyed Switch Screwed up within 10 days of Purchase. There's More to that story, which ended with a full refund and I no return necessary, but the several issues are my responsibility to fix. So. Instead of the keyed switch with LCD screen and half handle twist Throttle. I decided a key wasn't necessary, as th problem I had was the key spinning indefinitely until something connected, and then I guess after much of that the wires twisted up enough to short out completely . So newly purchased from amazon, just an on/off switch ,no key, thumb throttle and lcd screen. The previous setup had a 5 pin plug and then a single also on harness . That is what the controller Connected to, also with 5 pin and single separate wire. There is a light/ horn too, in case that explains Anything... so new throttle has 3 Pin with red green black, and 2 Single wires. Yellow and blue.i have photos but can't post them Here. Can you please Tell me What I need to do? I am 63 y old lady And this is my only transport and this bike was not built To pedal with ease of regular Bicycle. Help!
Hi and thank you for your great tutorial. I followed it completely to replace my former thumb throttle. I tried the new sensor on an external source first and it showed the expected 5V connecting the positive and the ground cable and low Voltage when connecting the Data cable with ground which would increase when I twisted the accelarator. Connecting the throttle to the controler and motor I quickly found that I had to switch the yellow and white cable in order to not have the display consistently on and the keys without function. With the cables switched, power supply seemed to be working as intended. However, while the horn and lights worked well, the accelerator did not work at all. When measuring with Voltmeter, the data cable of the throttle showed negative Volt value which would not change when I twisted the throttle. I can not explain to myself why that happened. I tried few other cable combinations but to have the key function working I could not find a way to make the sensor/accelerator work. Do you have any idea about what went wrong and how I can fix that? I would highly appreciate some help. Best wishes Fran
Good tutorial. However I've found that some controllers such as the Violamart kit controllers with 5 conductors don't provide 5V to the throttle signal, but the throttle converts the battery voltage to 5v signal voltage.
I believe I’m using the same voltage speed control that you’re using the same speed controller at what point do you put a fuse or a breaker? Thank you for your time.
Top notch tutorial. I'm new to the electric bike world and the videos with a little machanibility I've become the local escooter handyman. Thanks for the knowledge. #Each1Teach1. 👍👍👍
Made my day, you took all the guess work out my project, however if I wanted to add a brake light how would I go about it, the brake light terminal puts out full 40+ volts when I hit the brake lever, what type of light could handle this?
I went on Amazon and bought a rechargeable taillight with a built-in accelerometer that senses braking. That's the best I could do for my scooter. The scooter's display shows something is activated when I squeeze the brake lever but the rear lights don't get brighter or flash. How stupid is that? No way I'm going to mess with the wiring with no wiring diagrams and make things worse. The rechargeable taillight/brakelight works just fine.
Please help. I have the same throttle controller display it has red, green, black, also yellow and blue. I’m trying to install it to my razor 24 volt controller. The razor motor controller has 6 wires. Red,green, yellow, orange and 2black wires. I got it to turn on the voltage display but the motor won’t work? Does the orange wire has something to do with it? Also the 2 black wires? I hope you have the time to explain to me. Thank you
Great tutorial. Question…my throttle has 8 wires. Two - on/off switch Three - throttle main wires Three - hall sensor Throttle ground wire is a shared wire that also leads directly to vol/battery display, so four wires- three throttle wires + one black wire from hall sensor - lead to vol/battery display. I connected three main throttle wires from throttle to throttle connection on controller. connected yellow key wire to positive on battery and the other key wire (brown) I connected it with positive from throttle. I then connected those two wires to positive for throttle from controller. With this connection, I get a display of battery + voltage on throttle screen, showing controller is on (has power) and voltage level. That leaves two wires not connected - white signal wire and red positive wire from hall sensor on throttle. How/where do I connect these so that when I turn throttle I can get a 0.8 - 5.0vdc reading on multimeter, indicating throttle and throttle hall sensor are working properly. Any help I’d appreciate. Great video. /Bklyn👑
@3:34 is there another positive power wire coming out of the *controller* that always has same voltage as the battery so we can connect a volt meter display to the controller successfully without going to the battery?
Ok so the blue and yellow wire need to be connected to each other on the throttle?i have a weird wiring on my throttle..the white is the signal and the red is power and black is ground
Thanks for the video, I'm having a issue I installed my setup and when I twist the throttle the motor is spinning backwards I am guessing I wired something wrong
@ Vergil workman He has a video explaining that issue , or if you want you just can turn the wheel around like someone else did but don’t take me for it lol . But yeah this gentleman is very detail on what he does and very easy to understand and quote “to the wire” 👍
I have a Phantomgogo R1 36v scooter. When I tested the 5v red wire coming out of the controller I found that the 5 volt Red Wire is pushing 17.44 volts. I am afraid of connectiing the.controller to the throttle because I do not want to damage the throttle. Is this high voltage normal or is it a defect? Will it destroy my throttle?
My Sabvaton doesn’t have a switch/lock wire. Where do I connect the blue wire from my throttle to? There is a single 12v red wire but it’s labeled “brake”
I have a key switch/volt meter (no throttle) with 3 wires (green, red and black). My controller has the single wire you describe that should go to my switch. Please advise how to connect the 3 wires from switch (green-red-black). Love your channel!
Thanks so much for posting this video. This really help me understand basic pri ciple of keyed throttle. But one thing I'm curious about this thing is, if the blue wire on keyed throttle is operated by switch wire which is positive, can the blue wire also be connected to main power wire with the yellow one at the same time?
what voltage is that Bird motor? Also my Hover-1 Alpha only has the 5 pin throttle that connects to the display board. It says 12V on red and SW (36V) on yellow. I cannot determine how this m365 type display board powers off the 12V as It is not detectable off the harness or controller. Im hesitant to connect the yellow (36V) to the 12V line. I short the 12v and the 36V and the battery voltage dies to 4V and slowly climbs back up. My blue wire is TX in this harness.
Hey brother i really need youre help , my key switch is similar bit it has green red black wires , how can I test continuity on that type of swith with Red Black Green wires its for FLJ scooter
hello. great tutorial. Question: at 5:16 for the yellow (+) and the blue (negative) woyld i connect these two wirez to the power lock on the controller, red (+) and black (-)? /bklyn👑
My e scooter throttle circuit wire snapped but I was wondering is it possible to just reconnect the cables together to save time on buying a new throttle because I need a specific throttle and my e scooter brand isn’t made anymore or try to find a compatible universal throttle
HEY brother I need some help I bought a 500 W Controller but it only has A thick red positive And a negative wire And there's no loose Remote wire... What other color Are the remote wire ? Please let me know thank you
my electric scooter comes to a halt after i apply the brake and close the throttle. when i want to start again the scooter does not move. Sometimes, when i am on the move even when the trottle is in off position, the vehicle accelerates on its own. Can you suggest what could be the possible problem
What about the yellow wire coming from the controller? I got purple and red running in a loop. And then I have a Yellow One. But I said anything about yellow and coming from the controller just to throttle
I need your help, I have a 6pin twist throttle with ON OFF. I followed your video and I know Red/Black/Green is throttle, Blue & White is switch, but Yellow (battery indicator on throttle)? My controller has 6 wires (red/black/green/yellow/brown/pink). The yellow from the controller provides the voltage of the battery. I've been trying all sorts of combinations, but I couldn't get it to match correctly, to function. Thanks
Thank you for this video maybe you can show how to connect a throttle that has three speed switch and maybe you or somebody can make a video on how to connect up a pas pedal assist system as nobody has done a good job with that either
Thank you so much for making this video. I bought both 4-wire and 5-wire throttles. When I connected the 4-wire Throttle, my bike went well. The problems started when I tried to connect the 5-wire Throttle because I didn't know where to tie the blue wire. I suspected that the blue wire should be tied to the thin red wire (which goes to the battery). My bike is at 36 V. When I connected the blue wire to the thin red wire, the voltage dropped from 41 V to 24 V and the motor stopped running. I would have been delighted if you could film where the blue thread is tied. The clip has no subtitles and I don't know English very well. I understand a word, from 2 words ... II would have understood exactly where it needed to be tied up, if I had seen it filmed. But even now, if you explain it to me, I can use Google Translator to understand . Thanks !
Também não entendo nada do idioma do vídeo. Também estou com problemas. Meu motor e 24v.mas não chegam nem 12v no motor acho que estou ligando errado. Do Brasil obrigado.
Tell me how to train the controller 48V, 21A, JX-100-ABS-Electron, YKGT06FOC01-A, with a hall sensor, the new one was simply turned off for sealing and everything does not turn, the rest is all on, the speeds switch, the display works? There is no white wire or XX. (The wheel did not spin right away; it needs to be turned a little. Some scooters have this function.)
My battery has a key that starts the power but the controller does not have a wire for that that I can find. Its a 48v brushless set up. I bought a throttle with a button and display instead of a key but the button does the same thing as a key would. I just didn't want another key. I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I can get the display to work but not the throttle.
hi thankyou for this excellent video. i have a question( to anyone )regarding my throttle and controller... the power lock connector on the controller has a red and pink wire.the two wires from the throttle are yellow and white .does the red connect to the white and pink to the yellow???? thankyou.
Thank you for this! Quick q- when I hook up the key switch throttle to a 3 speed controller, there are no other wires besides the ones for the lock. Does the throttle default to the top speed on the controller? Or is it best to use a 3 speed throttle then a separate key switch for the lock?
Good morning, I am a novice, I am changing a 60v 1500w 50a scooter controller on my xiaomi pro 2, with a 60v 1200w motor, I have several questions : on the engine, the green connector: what is its name. Because I have to find these green connectors to replace them on the connectors of the motor cables (yellow, green, blue of the controller) on the controller -how do we know what the connectors correspond to (jst, dupont, hb or sm)? And the pin spacings? -How do we know the diameters of the wires (28 awg, 22awg, 20awg or others?) because if I have to lengthen the wires, I must have the same diameters as the wires of the controllers? I have to buy some which crimping pliers should I buy in the different cases (dupont, jst, hb or sm)? for connection tests the batteries : 60v is good: 1 battery of 48v + 12v or 5 batteries of 12v? or 36v+12v+12v? during the test on the connection, must we absolutely have the appropriate voltage? What size of wires is needed? How to know the diameter of the wires (14Awg? 10Awg or others) to connect them in series For the brakes I have to connect the front and rear brakes on my controller - i have a single yellow plug (2-hole connector): high brake if I connect the front brake: 1 wire on the yellow cable and the 2nd wire of the brake I connect it or ? And how do I do it? -i have a white and black cable with white male and female connectors do I connect the rear brake to the male or female? Key contactor+tensiometer on the controller I have two orange wires with black connectors with two pins which is originally connected how do I know if the controller is on/off? When connecting the key contactor and the controller I have a wire that needs to be connected to the pole + battery? how do you connect this son to the battery +? I have a son who must be connected to the on / off of the controller on my controller I have two orange cables with black connectors with 2 male and female pins? Which ones do I need to connect to? For the connection what is the best technique: welding? Which welder do you recommend and wires? Are there other reliable methods instead of welding? thank for your help
I want to change the Throttle to a key one. What happens to the on off switch, Do I uninstall it? You are amazing! I'm making some minor modifications to my Windgoo. It's only 36 v 😪 but it's still fun. Subbed 🤘🏼
Ok so my throttle broke and i got a replacement but the problem is that the original throttle had 6 wires and the new one only has 5 i messed around with the wires and got the throttle to power on but it just wont move the bike. How can i fix this. The old throttle only had 1 connector the new throttle has 2.
I have 3 pin throttle i ordered a throttle it has a 3 pin with 2 extra wires blue and yellow do i connect each one to positive wire and controller positive wire?
can u help me i have an m365 pro 2 and wish to attach just a voltmeter. when i connected them to the battery wire i got a err 21. if i attach the black from my voltmter to the ground of the panel and the red of the voltmeter to the battery's positive line; do you think that would work?
WOW, VUAECO , Thank you so much for sharing all your videos I enjoy them all , they are the best online !!! I am installing a new univer, sal throttle with key on a recently purchased used Dyu D1(Gyroor C6) 36 volt 350 watt . This is a learning project. It did not run when I bought it , seller said needed a battery. I have a battery that i can use that is 36 volts. How would I go about attaching the Throttle YELLOW wire to the THICK RED CONTROLLER wire as mine has a yellow XT60? Any help is so appreciated Thank You:)😊
URGENT! I need a wiring diagram for this so I can hook it uo to my 1000Watt 48V brushless motor controller. Can you send me instructions. I am stuck! The color of the wires on a THUMB THROTTLE (with on/off and LCD voltage display) ARE : BLACK ,GREEN ,RED, (in connector) and YELLOW, BLUE (separate) the controller wire options include BROWN, WHITE, GREEN, RED, YELLOW, BLACK.
