Looking great, and although I'd want to try it as soon as possible, I'm surprised you didn't put up a guard between you and the spinning bat / wheel. Should the screws break free from the wheel, you might end up with it flying towards your chest / leg, at speed. At least with a fixed guard, it would take the rotational force.
Wouldent there be a way to make it connect and use a second bike (just the pedal part as you used aswell) and make it powered by yourself so you wouldent have to use the drill?
Best DIY on youtube !!! All the others have the problem that the motor is direct unter der wheel..that is pretty bad, because of the water, wich will damange the motor. Good Tutorial !
I'm here from the ceiling fan tutorial 😅 however, a criticism I read in the comments was that the lowest speed was still pretty fast and I want to know if that problem is still present. Also, does the wheel stabilize or does it continue to wobble? I can't see well
@@parepidemosproductions4741 hey, yeah the wheel speed is still a problem, I tried and made one myself and it was too fast ,the solution is to find a low rpm motor I think
Hi sir can u give me the list of all the tools and materials... And how instructions on how to put it all... Pls. Thank u so much in advance sir. God bless
I was trying to figure out how to overcome the problem of weight distribution so that the wheel is balanced properly and won't spin off kilter. I think the best answer is a deep dish aluminum pizza pan. The deep sides will prevent deformation of a flat surface and the weight will be very uniform. Yes, it will cost money (the one I saw on Amazon is $15), but it solves the problem of uneven spin.
this is cool using a bike, I will be fabricating on by starting with a treadmill i have a start my cost should be under 100. with buying a used tread mill.
Helps to have machining and carpentry skills or friends to get zero tolerances in balance for personal creations. A little wobbly. But you got a free wheel baby hell yeah
at first I want to thank you to simplify this to me. I will be grateful to you if you show me how to move the wheel without electricity.I prefer pedal powered. The bike chain and crank all are understandable but please add the pedal with the chain. It will be very nice and easy. I like to know and I am very interested in pottery making in wheel. This is my long time dream to have a pottery wheel at home. Make my wish true. Thank you from all of my heart. Please answer my question . Have a nice day. God bless you.

Hi, this should solve your doubts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J25qqy7enmI.html~~HEAD=dobj
This is an excellent tutorial that I might actually try! Could you tell me how you control on/off of the drill? And perhaps a close up or more detail of the drill and sprocket? Thank you so much!

I'm controlling the drill by my foot :). Which details exactly are you interested in?
the first time i watched the video only up to when it was assembled. I made one myself, but it was a little bit uneven, and i couldn't get the pot passed a certain hight before it would be too off center and collapse. i made two more attempts, that's three bikes, and they both did the same thing. I went back to watch the video and, after watching the whole thing, i realized yours wobbled too.

Yeap, you are right, it was short/flash project. I'm sure it is possible to center/balance the wheel. But three attempts, wow, I'm impressed,
Tom Żuk I finally came to the conclusion that a main part of the problem was my clay. This whole project started after my son watched a RU-vid video by the king of random, about how to you can get clay from a river bed. I grew up right along the Fraser River, near Vancouver, BC, so we went and got a some. The first we ended up with good clay, but this time I think it’s got too much mud in it. Going to try to get more tomorrow and see if I can get one of them to work better.
I'd have to create a "flood guard", or buy a MOP! Lol! If I can't figure out how to fit some kind of guard on....well..... let's just say that WITH a guard, I usually flood the floor! (But in this case, I'd be flooding the power source as well) It sure would be great to have my own wheel at home, sigh....... What a good idea! BTW: I am guessing that people that say this is not free, don't SAVE things like you and I...lol! "What? You're throwing that away?! Please give it to me! I can use that for my mixed media art, etc....!" lol
As a potter, I've been hunting for a way to make the shaft and gears for a wooden handbuilt kickwheel Tom Zuk, would you recommend bike gears for something like that?
Because I am knows to be able with computers I am sometimes asked to help people at short notice and it annoys me that I go into peoples homes and they don't even have a screwdriver! Needless to say my kids have been given a small tool set.
i doesn't look like the wheel's head is spinning true to the shaft, it looks like it's wobbling around and would make it very annoying to throw anything tall. have you tried or compared with a well made potters wheel ? if yes how was it ?
I know the feeling, especially when you've got health issues that make it hard to handle the forces in hand/power tools. Even then, all those tool mottos don't help when you're very weary of spending on a one time project with low material cost.
Most of the items here could be pulled out of a skip or collected from gumtree freebies, or whatever freecycling website you have near you. The person making it, just needs the imagination and skill and time to create it.
do you really think we have all those tools? is not DIY and definitely isnt free

It is a simply, base tools, it might be free. You can try use hand tool instead electrical one. Most parts like chain, crank, etc. you can find in trash can or at dump.
I was able to find a corded drill, sawsal,an ace circular saw i turned into a table saw that has some serious balls, aswell as a random orbital sander. all for 20 bucks at a garage sale in a small town dont be cheap. I also found lots of scrap wood i just needed to spend acouple hours removeing nails. After that i headed to the store to buy all the rest of the stuff i need like square and mes tape hammer now i can build half a shead if i want all for like ahundred

If you want a beer, do not buy the brewery. Can't count cost of machines and tools, because they isn't a part of pottery wheel. Rest materials is possible to find on scrap-heap. If you have to buy this materials, that means that you are doing someting wrong.
My local dump no longer lets people take things. I used to get electronics parts, perfectly good flower pots, etc. Not any more. I wonder if those running the dump are taking things and selling them for their own profit? Such a "throw away" society we have here.....a shame......
Why isn't it diy? You expect him to make a pottery wheel out of a paper clip, a straw and a rubber band? He took some junk and scrap wood and built a workable wheel using a few hand tools. Very imaginative repurposing and most definitely DIY.
