DIY Fruit Tree Bird Protection. I created a new Fruit Tree Bird net Frame to hold up my Bird Netting to save my fruit from being eaten. made from scrap from my scrap pile.
As stated in the video I have lots of fruit trees which I let the birds eat the fruit off of. but I needed to protect the ones that I needed to consume. Thanks
this is the mesh that is Used in video part two. comes in different sizes as well.
it was 25 x 25 Feet Woven Mesh. Netting for Bird Protection Against Birds, Deer, Squirrel, Rabbits and Other Animals

I fight birds for the blueberries. I try to keep the plants at 6ft tall, row is about 30ft. long. I use 1 by 2 inch and 8ft long wood poles. I post one in the ground about every 8 feet about 16 inches out fro the plants.. Bird netting comes in 7ft width and 100ft long. I staple the netting to the pole all the way around with some overlap at one end for a "flap door". I try to keep the row width at about 6 and a half feet, then "sew" a piece of 7ft netting across the whole top, building a big cage/box. One hole and the Mocking Birds will get in. I have seen as many as 20 in at one time. Got no fruit that year. Biggest downfall is that every couple of years a snake gets caught in the bird netting. it is a chore to protect these plants but if I don't there is no point in growing blueberries or blackberrys. Also it is best to protect the fruits BEFORE the birds find any because once they learn of a food source they are harder to stop. Good luck

sounds like s nice setup. the only way to keep snakes from getting stuck in the netting is to use chicken wire around the ground and the bird mesh above that. I should have all my supplies in soon and will update the protection and close all gaps. Thanks for sharing your protection.

Great job much better this way putting the netting over the frame than directly on the tree or shrubs. Thule material works great too cheaper than the bird netting.

Thanks, and yes it is easier. Thule will not let the pollinators through, and the sun will deteriorate it in short time. the netting will last a few years.

Thanks, I'm uploading part 2 now with the new netting, and framed my Peach Tree, works a look-see.

What about chicken wire or hardware cloth around the sides & netting at the top?

I wish I had a tree that needed a cage. Interesting how your bananas are all still green. We are both zone 9 but my plants saw a somewhat-dry19f for a short night. 10/10.

Plant and you will soon enough. I do have some Banana plants on the property that are browning a little toward the back of the property. We usually have a hard freeze in March.
