Great video. A before and after side view of your truck and rv would have been hellpful. Lots of adjustments for that system. We have the Husky without the chain and the stabilizer. Much simlpler design and works great.
Thank you for this...I have a Curt system...but it is exactly like your Husky...the step by step explanation was awesome...my directions pages left out some key things that you explained..thanks....
thanks for showing great patience putting it together. very good way and example on how to follow instructions. this will help me readjusting my hitch together after the reinstallation from dealership. at least I know what questions to ask for them. thank you.
I have always struggled with that too. It’s not clear. I just make it pretty snug as there is a lot of leverage against it and you want to slow down any swaying movement that might start. That said if I’m going on roads below 65 and curvy I Don’t even use it. Also if your in the right balance with proper tong weight your risk of sway goes way down. Happy towing!
This is a great detailed video. I purchased this system and had been delaying putting the anti-sway ball mount to the hitch until I seen someone else do it. This helps me a lot!
Bought my Travel Trailer new with a dealer installed set up. Your video was excellent. The mechanic advised me to snug up the sway bar, then add 1/4 turn. Plenty of grease at ball contacts keeps the squeaky racket at bay. I look forward to your next video!
Great video. In your adjustments, you're looking at coupler A but your trailer is a top mount coupler, B or C style. Looks like it all worked out in the end anyhow.
Thank you, I have the same hitch and anti sway bar, I never knew how it was hooked up by the dealer, thanks for showing me how it works. Also I upgraded to a HD truck that is a little higher than my 1500 and I will use your info to make sure that it is properly set up. Thanks again.
I bought a travel trailer yesterday and drove it home 300 miles after the guy I bought it off of didn't know how to adjust it like this, one chain was tighter than the other, he had the sway bar part in the trailer but never installed it before I left. I found it after I got home. The trailer swayed a little, but not too much even though it was very windy all the way home. Found out I need a transmission cooler though. Thanks for the video.
Hi Jason, You mention the front of your vehicle should be 1” higher when properly installed. I learned that when properly installed the front of your vehicle should drop half the amount that the rear of the vehicle drops. In other words the entire vehicle will sit lower but the front only dropping 50% compared with the rear drop. That shows the weight is properly distributed when everything is adjusted correctly.
Yeah, I'm confused. At 20:46 Jason says his uncoupled front height was 38.5. Then he says he wants to be that, or higher by 1". I thought you expect both front and rear to drop (because you've added weight), but you want the drop in the front to be equal to the drop in the back. Otherwise, what you're doing is squatting the back axle down and raising the weight off the front axle. So then Jason measures and shows that the front raised by .25". Probably insignificant raise EXCEPT that you've hooked up a trailer and the front and back should've dropped - not raised. Then Jason says, "the sway bar is lifting the back of the truck up just enough." WHAT? You're not using a sway bar (yet) - you're hooking up a weight distro system, not a sway control bar. I'm a newb, but this video needs a few edits. It confused me more than I was before. lol.
Thanks for the video. You have a very good presentation, very clear. My used trailer came with this minus sway bar. Looks like a pain in the butt. I ordered a blue ox sway pro. Much easier to install looking at video. We'll see.
Great video. I need to install one, waiting for a new F150. I already have a new friction sway bar, wonder if Husky sells the WDH without and save some $ there.
Jason this gives me hope that I can do this. About to go take my travel trailer on her maiden voyage and if all goes well I will report back with any things to note from the female perspective 😸
Very nice RV . Hope to see you Camping. Please Come to Virginia We have some of the best Camping in the States. Please check and see if you can find replacements for those pins on those spring Clips mine have fallen out several times and Prase God we found them again. The whole thing is absolutely useless without them. People really need to know before they buy this setup.
This is the first time I have heard of this issue. Maybe yours was defective. But keep an eye on this issue people. Ya I would love to visit the east coast states with my RV. Happy camping
It only goes in one way. If I recall I just used all the washers which made the everything level. then later I was able to use the lower adjusting bolt to lower the angle as needed. I hope you where able to figure it out! Looking back at my video I did not show that part of the instal very well. Sorry about that.
Did you grease them? The easy way to remove them is to unhook the chain then pivot them (spin them) back towards your truck and they will almost fall out.
Hi Friends! Thanks for watching and your support in getting this channel off the ground! This will be the last nonwood shop video for a while so subscribe and get ready for some cool new projects!
@@keithdavis9854 Oh no! I think I know what part your talking about. The tree tongue options with A,B, or C. Ya that was a bit confusing. Well, 2500 miles down and its working great!
Great Video!! I got thinking about the draw pin that goes through the hitch....it seems "weird" that a 5/8" pin is all that is used to hold the hitch...which holds 6000 pounds of trailer?? It would be better to have at least TWO pins holding the hitch in the receiver...taht way there is TWICE the material to haul "":the load"...!!
Thanks! Ya that always baffles me but if the broke often the industry standers would change to something more robust. Industry dose recommend changing your pin ever year.
@@Jasonsdesignshop Thanks for the reply Jason!! To replace the pin every year is a bit of comfort...for sure !! Another idea that I do is to pull the pin out of the brake away switch and see if the wheels lock up....BEFORE we leave on a trip...
I ordered mine a few days ago, only got the tension bars so far. Amazon claims it was delivered. Apparently the shipping company doesn't understand what "2 of 2" means.
The trailer and truck should be close to level when all hooked up. If either is sagging or is too high, adjustments need to be made. The most important point is not to have too much sag in the rear with the truck. If you do, you're taking weight off the front wheels which is dangerous. If the trailer is not level, you can get more tire wear will be uneven. A side note, I don't recall you using the spacers. Maybe I missed it. You need those to get the proper angle before tightening the single bolt at the bottom. Hopefully, you did use them?
Thanks for the comments. Yes I used all the spacers to get the angle right which places the right amount of lift on the bars. Got her dialed in pretty well now.
looks like a new RV, do yourself a considerable favor read up, and watch videos on MAINTENANCE. Download some checklists, they help. You need to winterize, check the roof and every seam, corner, light, vent, window, door, sealant, and repair before any leaks start. also keeping, all plastic, rubber, and gaskets clean and protected, and lubed.
3 in off center. Not sure how much tolerance there is. But you can check by hooking your trailer up to your truck making the tightest turn you think you’d ever make to the side of the sway bar and then go out and see if it would collapse so far it hits the end and would probably break off or not. If this looks like it would work I would still want an inch more that it could slide in just for safety.
After the setup you have any porpoising going on with the camper? I have same setup but am getting bouncing frt/to back over bumps. Probably need to go back and reset it all
No mine is riding smooth. Sounds like your hitch end is still to heavy making the front so light it can spring up over bumps. Maybe try moving up a link on the chain which will send more weight to the front tires.
I was concerned about that too, as my driveway has a 5% slop, but as long as the truck and trailer are on the same slop it should not make a difference. Go for it!
Hello Jason, I just bought the same hitch and the thing that is confusing me is that in STEP 4 it says the ball height should be 1" higher than the coupler height, however, this makes the bars 4 inches higher than they should be. If I lower the ball by 4 inches my ball height in STEP 4 will not be at the "Target" ball height. I'm assuming it's more important to have the bars at the designated height than the ball height?
Yes I believe you are right. Get the Bars to the correct height and thus correct tension and the Ball height will by default be fine. If I am understanding you correctly.
Thanks. I don't like fast smooth and slick videos that don't really show me everything. So mine are a little longer and more detailed and hopefully more helpful.
Those two pins holding the L bars pop out and will fall on the ground and the whole system is useless. Harbor Fright doesn't sell replacements eather. DON'T LOSE THOSE 2 LITTLE PINS. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN GLUE OR NOT.
True, and the fact is that is slid on me once back on the first trip. I reset it with some pipe extenders over the handles for leverage. Hasn't moves since.
Wow this is such an interesting idea! I /we (other male RU-vidrs) always talk as if we are only talking to other men. This is a big mistake! Ok I’m going to test this and make a video this summer where I help my 14 year old daughter through a project stereo typically designed for a strong man and how we can overcome the issues of weight strength and solve problems along the way so even a female teenager can do it. I’m excited for this already! Just need to come up with the perfect project to test the concept.
@@Jasonsdesignshop to:JDS, My baby girl, age 15, had to help grampy and Grammy change a flat on their big vehicle in middle of knowwhere. My baby girl is 5'1" and small framed. It was tough but grampy walked her step by step. Getting the heavy tire down and lifting onto hub was most difficult. Got to be an easier way for little ladies to move a heavy wheel.
Wow she is a champion! I don’t know any tire change hacks. Some things are just hard. Oh I do use my feet to lift the tire onto the axel. Must have shoes on. Legs are stronger then arms.
I'm sorry but this is not a very good install the video managed to not only give mostly incorrect information but also be longer than needed. Almost every step of the way was done incorrectly
You probably only burned about 30 % more fuel pulling that parachute, yes whoever wrote those instructions probably never pulled a trailer. The towed trailer needs to be 1 inch lower the front than the rear. That way you have wind forces pushing down on your trailer instead of wind getting under the trailer and lifting it. Basic physics.
