I love this!! Great idea! I was just looking at building a custom drawer organizers in my kitchen, and I love that this doesn’t take any hardware! Way easier than having to drill holes and countersink screws! The only thing I wasn’t 100% clear on is the notches for the plywood. Did you just make consecutive passes over the blade until you cleared out the half inch area? Thank you!! So glad I stumbled across this video! I definitely subscribe to your channel!

Yes!! You are exactly right! set up the blade height of the depth you want maybe about 1/8th of an inch or 3/16th. Then just make consecutive papers til it is as wide as the plywood board you are using!!

Was looking for ideas. Looks like this one will work, slightly modified so I can cover the drawer bottom and each divider with silver cloth to help protect my silver utensils. Thank you.

NEVER USE A TABLE SAW THAT WAY! You're asking for those long pieces to bind and twist against the fence and then look out. You'll get kickback and possible have your fingers or hand get pulled into the blade. Very dangerous.

Did you seal the wood in anyway so it doesn't absorb moisture and odors? I understand you don't want to use chemicals around utensils but maybe something natural like shellac or a non-toxic oil such that is used for butcherblock?

SAFETY ALERT.. Never use the fence and miter gauge on your table saw at the same time. This is one of the most dangerous things you can do on a table saw. If the piece even slightly binds up on the fence as you are cutting, you are going to get serious kick back. This is an accident in the making. The proper way to use the two together is to clamp a small piece of wood toward the back of the fence. Adjust the distance you want from the block to the edge of the blade. Then snug up the piece you want to cut up against the block. As you move your miter gauge forward, the block stays behind and the end of the piece you are cutting can move freely with no chance of a kick back. If you're not sure what I've explained, there are plenty of videos on RU-vid on how to use a table saw properly.

Meh...small pieces like this it totally doesn't matter. Just stand to the side if you are scared. It's a 3inx3in cutoff. Jesus.

I great Idea ... If I may, In this video you used the word "tension" to describe how some of the pieces are held in place. However, Tension is an act of pulling. The word you were looking for waas compression , this is the act of a pushing or weighted force. In this video these some of these parts are held in place with "compression", where the pieces push against one another.

Well, it might be a little of both. Tension and compression describes where the force is coming from... either pushing in or pushing out, so technically I still think the word tension works, because the exterior of the drawer is not pushing in (i.e. compression) rather the dividers are pushing out against the limits or sides of the drawer (i.e. tension). However there are definitely pieces that are compressing depending on what direction you are thinking... all told the wood is acting like “tension rods”. Where the force holding it in place is pushing out into the board around it... however the board it is pushing into might be compressing... it’s sort of a moot point.

I think in a technical sense, "tension rod" is a misnomer, they would more correctly be called compression rods (which is probably why another name for them is "spring rod"). I'd argue that a better description would be to call the dividers a "friction fit" or "interference fit". Either way, I've found that it's sometimes helpful to cut large semi-circles in the side of the dividers, especially if you end up making them fairly deep and narrow. It can get hard to get items out of the cubbies. Thanks for the video!
