Best woodworking video I've seen on RU-vid - easy to understand the process, without being overly long or detailed (no need as everyone's cut list will be different). Great work!
Great work! For now this will fall under my 'not enough experience/tools to get the job done but it's so cool it makes me want to get better' category. Thanks for taking the time to show us your work.
I love the island.. I need one , it needs to be two of yours in size and have at least two shelves for my mixers and bread machine and such.. I love the mason jar storage.. The top is very pretty also... Thanks for sharing ...🥰
I am completely addicted to your style of Shou Sugi Ban! I am a welder/furniture maker myself, and this is a technique that I plan to incorporate into some of my projects!
Here is my idea: I want to mix the Island with a bit more metal, that will tie the stools in a little better. I also plan to add a foot rest to the stools. I have some Autocad Drawings I have been working on since I saw your video. I think it will look amazing! And all of the wood will be Shou Sugi Ban since I will be incorporating more metal into the design of the kitchen Island!
Thanks! You could easily add an extra shelf to this. I really like it without, because it makes it really nice to sit at. I use it mainly as my breakfast nook now.
I love this. I wish I knew how to build this for my art supplies and paint. Buying one is too expensive and having it built is expensive. Maybe one day I will be able to make one of these beautiful kitchen carts. The color is beautiful
The green stain didn't really do it for me, but that is a matter of personal taste. I love the simple beafy design of the cart. I will use red oak, so I can only imagine how heavy it will be. Nicely done and simple to follow.
My wife wants me to build her two entryway style tables. I think I'll try this same shou sugi ban tops. I'll be building them with pallet wood and I think she'll love that style. Thanks also for the tutorial on how to do the shou sugi ban top.
Very nice looks great. These are great ideas. The only difference I would use would be an apoxy resin. But before that, I would use a router and get all those corners around it out, it looks great.
I made one similar to this, but added a full shelf about midway down. I wondered, though why the table top had (3) supporting boards to rest on, but the bottom shelf didn't (which also led me to wonder whether the shelf needed this). I'm now making a smaller, lighter one for my sister, who has a very small space for this, using 1x4's for the most part. Loved the Shou Sugi Ban effect!
Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
Great job, but for my personal taste, I'd tint the base somewhat darker color, and probably would rout tabletop edges. Love this burning magic, and tabletop color choice
Nice build. If i could add that the dowels may warp or accidentally break would using copper tubing to cover them when sliding them through the end. I like adding metal to wood projects.
Copper tubing would look really cool. Never thought of that. I will say that I use this daily and often and the dowels are holding up nicely. The fact that they flex a bit makes getting the mason jars in and out a breeze.
I just finished watching your instructional video on this awesome technique. It was a great tutorial. Thanks a bunch. So it's nice to see it used in an application. I love the island. I only have one suggestion. Safety. You should protect your beautiful eyes. I noticed you drilling some Holes without goggles. 😱Otherwise it was a great video. I learned a lot. I really like this technique. I don't have a torch so that's something I will have to look into getting. And thanks for the detailed materials list. Very helpful. Again thanks for a great video.😎
Really enjoyed this build, thanks for sharing, I'm looking forward to the tutorial you are going to put out in depth of your method of doing this style of worktop. Thanks from across the pond, West Midlands, England, UK.
I'll be honest, the color is odd when it's being stained. I cringed. Then after the finish I started digging it. Awesome little island man. Keep it up!
as an artist I can say that the plain pine with the turquoise top is a no go, it would look absolutely gorgeous with a dark walnut stain on the shelves and everywhere else, and that same top. really a lovely and functional piece too.
Great build, Jonny! When you first told me about this and the color you wanted to inject into this project, I couldn’t picture it. I love how it all came together!
Can you please tell me the formula for this turquoise I cannot find it at Home Depot? They also cannot find it in their paint department. Did you have it customized special?
