Always play with electricity! :-D This one’s my favorite. Microwave capacitors are the best capacitors!

Right? But for some reason my parents never supported my passion of playing with things that could kill me. :)

@@DestructiveCreativity Yeah, I want to make a video showing what happens when you hook jumper cables up backwards. My gf doesn’t like it. I’m still deciding. I’ve been near two battery explosions in my life, and they’ve put the fear of God in me. Lol It’ll probably just melt the cables though. 😒

hi! our teacher instructed us to create a spark using a Leyden Jar. I've been trying to do this with my father. I used a straight bottle, wrapped it in foil and secured it with an electrical tape and then drive a nail through the bottle cap (I also tried using an Allen wrench, since it is made of stainless steel and reaches the bottom of the bottle, and a solid wire as well). I added salt into the tap water until it was hard for it to dissolve the rock salt and there were undissolved salt at the bottom of the bottle. I connected my grounding wire to a stainless steel planted on a planting pot with soil. There were no ping pong balls available so I made a ball out of the aluminum foil and connected it to the black wire that is connected to the aluminum foil wrap. I did not set up one on top of the bottle, though. I was able to charge my 3/4" blue PVC pipe with static electricity using paper and a used sandpaper (it's summer and very humid and any type of cloth doesn't work) but there are no crackling sounds when I put it near the conductor on the bottle cap, so I guess the static electricity does not transfer to the Leyden Jar. Can you tell me why it doesn't work? Where did I go wrong? And what should I do?

I have some ideas, but it would be easier if I saw some pictures. The email for Destructive Creativity is jdallers@gmail.com if you send a photo of your work, I should be able to trouble shoot for you.

I can say that typically the problem lays with the collection of static charges in the pvc. I would check to make sure you are collecting a charge by placing an empty pop can on a flat surface. Charge up you PVC (minimum 20 strokes.) And bring the pipe close to the can. If you can move the can without touching it, you have built up enough charge to transfer to the Leyden jar. If nothing happens, try using different materials to rub on the pipe. (I really like wool socks.)

Your video is very funny and it helped me to understand how to make more efficient a Leyden Jar. Thak you.

Wow awesome video and very explanatory!😍 Is it true you can gauge the voltage by the spark gap?

Can you also teacg how to charge yourself with electricity? In safe ways?
@DestructiveCreativity
@DestructiveCreativity 3 года назад
Hmm, it is quite easy to charge high voltage in your body. The easiest way is probably to jump on a trampoline, or rub a blanket on your head. You should be able to build a high enough charge to see a visible spark from your finger. (Or did you mean something else?)

Can i use any pvc tube?

I found that pvc-u worked best.

Hi I use PVC though it is narrow it builds up charges. Sometimes it builds charges quicker than others but the micro fibre cloth I use does the job. Not sure why the build isn't always strong though? 🤔

My Leyden jar is not working I m thinking of making another I will use a plastic jar Foil paper, nail and some wire I will charge it from a pipe and news paper Tell me if I have to change any item in this Please reply
@DestructiveCreativity
@DestructiveCreativity 3 года назад
Okay, everything you have should work. A couple of thing to keep in mind, keep the foil at least 1 -2 inches away from the bottom and top. This wall make sure the jar doesn't ground out before charging. Also, before you build, listen as you stroke the paper down the pvc pipe. If you hear a faint crackle, it will work. Otherwise change either your paper for cloth or change your pipe.

@DestructiveCreativity 3 года назад
Also, your pipe should be the common PVC-u that is used for drinking water. I found that to work best.

Can I charge it without using a PVC pipe Can I use something else
@streakyowl4313

And how do I ground it
@DestructiveCreativity
@DestructiveCreativity 3 года назад
You can charge it with anything that creates static electricity. Balloons on cotton work well but slow. And grounding it it not necessary unless you are looking for a serious amount of pain... you could simply touch the ground with your hand after charging it for a pretty good effect.

where is your ground being connected to? your outlet? where, I tried doing this, but I don't understand what ground is
@DestructiveCreativity
@DestructiveCreativity 4 года назад
You need to be able to provide a straight path from the jar to the ground. (Literally, the earth, or the floor of your house) The wire I had was connected to a floor register one time. The other time it was connected to the kitchen sink.

@DestructiveCreativity

Sure! Probably the material you are using for your tube is made of differrnt material. If you have a cotton cloth, you should hear a crackle even from one pass. What color is the tube you are using?

@@DestructiveCreativity Yeah man totally! Btw could you tell me what did you do to ground both the wires? Like did you literally stick them to the floor with electrical tape? Also, does the material of the floor matter. Like I have ceramic tiles on my floor. Would I be able to ground.
