It's time we look at water for what it is worth. Inherent electrical properties make it wildly useful for power transformation, and, high voltage generation. Recently, I realized an entire Marx Generator could be built using primarily water and plastic, and this is the journey I took. ** DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE WITH ELECTRICITY. PLEASE NOTE: During the video intro, I was referring to hypothetical pure water being the best insulator. In reality, pure water is an impossibility due to autoprotolysis and disassociation. Despite this, DI / distilled water (the closest thing possible) is still ONE of the best insulators known. Cheers.

So if the power continues to build till it get to the end, then can you use more cups and less input and get the same results? Also, is electrolysis( i think that's what it's called) a risk here? Because i would prefer not having a fire.

I think your experiment finally solved what the odd pools and shapes of them mean at a few temples in India, where they look like circuit boards. It wouldn't take much input, with such pools, to get almost literal lightning from the main towers.

Plasma Channel - YES!!!!! I WOULD LOVE A VIDEO ON FLYBACKS!!!! I HAVE 4 or 5 of them that I saved from old TV’s after seeing YOU USE THEM but I’m COMPLETELY CLUELESS about how they work, what they can do, and yeah, basically everything about them.... So, a video on how to build this little gadget would be awesome so I could do this project with my daughters!!! BUT ID PAY FOR AN IN DEPTH VIDEO ON FLYBACKS so that I could understand how they work and WHY and how to know how far they can be pushed and quick examples of various tasks they can perform from basic to complex!!!!!! THIS WOULD BE A KILLER VIDEO that I also would encourage your audience to GET OUT THERE and engage in some curbside TV picking!!! This channel is INCREDIBLE... the videography, editing, and delivery are SPOT ON and so easy to consume... The only negative thing I can possibly say is that my lack of experience/knowledge combined with my desire to learn creates the consistent desire to see another video (maybe on a “backup channel”) where an IN-DEPTH followup tutorial and lesson is provided on the project you just showed on this channel... Maybe even have it become a new thing where less focus & time is placed on the fancy professional presentation, and more time is spent on just the down & dirty HOW TO’s... Maybe you’d even mention it at the end of each video on this channel and let the viewers know that the more detailed version is on the other channel or that it’ll be there in a few days.... I think this would actually generate huge traffic and engagement for you, but I’d also understand if it’s simply not possible to squeeze into your schedule. Either way, those are my couple of cents worth and I wanted to request that flyback video like you mentioned and let you know how much I appreciate the inspiration you instill in me to create new things and expand my mind. Thank you.

This is because water has some inherent electrical properties that make it wildly useful for power transformation and high voltage generation. For example, when water molecules are split into hydrogen and oxygen gas, the hydrogen gas is highly combustible and can be used to generate electricity in a fuel cell. Furthermore, the oxygen gas can be used to oxidize other materials to create electrical energy. In addition, water can be used to generate hydroelectric power by flowing through a turbine that is connected to a generator. Finally, water can be electrified by passing an electric current through it, which causes the water molecules to break apart into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Each of these methods of using water to produce electricity will be discussed in more detail below.

The DIY Marx Generator is a device that uses the inherent electrical properties of water to generate power. It can be used to transform power or to generate high voltages. The generator is made of two plastic bottles, a few pieces of tubing, and some wire. Water is poured into the bottles, and the tubes are connected so that the water flows from one bottle to the other. The wire is then connected between the two bottles. When the water flows through the wire, it creates an electrical current. The current can be used to power devices or to generate high voltages.

@@thomasranjit7781 Theoretically yes, but you have to remember nothing is being generated here. To charge a battery you would have to capture that spark and reduce it to the prescribed charge voltage for your battery. The only thing coming out of this is a slightly transformed version of what is already being fed in. And you would lose massive efficiency trying to charge any battery with this output. You might use it to shock batteries that have those pesky tendrils that eventually short them out and make them useless though. A good 15,000v spike to and old car battery could do wonders, or it might explode and blind you, meh whatever.

Wow! Best demo of the Marx gen/transformer yet. I was very pleasantly surprized to "see" how much it stepped up the voltage (with just 5 jars). Reminds me that it could be used to drive Tesla's simple dual-rod power-amp that creates cold plasma discharge that can light up a room full of old "dead" flourescent lamp-tubes (in series) with a single line of 28 ga. magnet wire. FYI: All the "dead" FL tubes light up equally, much brighter than when they were functional with a 60Hz 120V ballast & fixture. Jay, have you seen that video? The conference MC & presenter then put the take-off wire into a big glass salad bowl full of tap water, so you see the 1 inch ball of white light at the tip. Then the MC puts his hand into the cool water. No shock, no problema. Go figger, eh? Thanks again ~

Got a Marx generator at the TRW swap meet where I live it the support was arc flashed & burned but all the 30kv at .002 UF were ok like 50 or so went into tesla coils. Your video is great reminds me of the salt water caps for tesla coils in the way back when time where did you get the glass Winkey face..

Just watched the lightning generator episode absolutely amazing. It's just resparked my interest in science particularly physics, which I did at school. It's so cool especially physics Its in everything around us and everything we do. When you get down to how it all works it's so much fun. But also so important that everyone should understand a little, I will definitely be looking out for more videos. Thank you for reminding me how cool it is! 👍👍👍👍👍

Keith, thank you so much for your comment. It's reasons like this that I create these videos. To spread a love of physics, and to reignite old sparks and old interests in people. The more citizen scientists who are engaged in the art of experimental physics, the faster physics and science will progress. Average people can still make ground breaking discoveries, if they are given enough time, enough motivation, and a creative atmosphere to apply their knowledge and simply...experiment. I believe that through physics and the application of physical studies, all things are possible. I too believe it's important that everyone should understand at least a little physics. Because understanding physics affects everything about your life. It's involved in everything. Nutrition. Exercise. Driving in bad weather. Electricity. Guns. Chemistry, Space, Engines, etc.

Bro i cant even get the flyback to work with the 2 resistors and 1 mosfet. That aside, you are a great teacher and hopefully are gaining this new generation's attention to pursue engineering careers. Thanks for the great stuff. Health and happiness 4 everyone.

Can you send pictures of your setup to my email? That is unfortunate that you can’t get it working! What MOSFET do you have again?
@flaplaya
@flaplaya 3 года назад
@@PlasmaChannel Wow thank you very much for the reply, I'm honored. I followed the schematic that you posted and tried several different things... 220, 22 ohm resistors in series across 12 V input feeding MOSFET/Primary 7 Turns and Feedback 3 Turns, 600V/9A K2645 MOSFET. That must be the issue it's designed to switch much higher voltages than 12. I also tried a D2012 Transistor That's rated 60V/3A. No dice. Where's your email? By all means I'll send a photo of setup. I'd like to share a plasma trick that is very cheap and pretty impressive for you to share with everyone who gets this flyback circuit running as well. Peace.

Hey great video, I love the idea to use water instead of the high voltage components marx generators usually use. One small correction, pure water is not the best insulator. It has a conductivity of around 5.5e-6 S/m, and there are a few common materials that are even less conductive like fused silica (1e-18 S/m) and Teflon (1e-25 S/m). Keep up the good work!
@PlasmaChannel
@PlasmaChannel 3 года назад
Hi Dylan! Thanks for the compliments. It's true, fused silica is better. I should have said "one of the best insulators". Cheers!

Awesome. Love acrylic, aquarium tubing, water, and electricity. I think most of your videos I've seen focus more on presentation than on how-to, and I would've liked to have seen a schematic customized to show jars/water, etc, but there's enough information to recreate this project. For other projects though, more detail on how you did stuff vs what you did would be good imho. Thanks :) And yes, mini HV vid how-to is welcome, lol. Edit: Just noticed this was from 2 years ago, so I suppose you probably already made that vid. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm subscribed, so someday the algorithm will guide me to it I'm sure ;P

I was waiting for you to reveal the high voltage power source to be a bath tub, water pump, tap, flexible plastic pipe, 2 shower heads, assortment of pipe fittings, 4 metal buckets with holes drilled in the bottom, a frame made with insulating materials, a set of car jump leads, quite a lot of water and some stiff wire with foil balls on the end to make a spark gap.

Wow this is an amazing usage of water, I was trying to build a taser using an old transformer and use it in reverse to generate high voltage but I couldn't have any high voltage capacitors and I just stuck, only to find your video reminding me that I can actually use water as a high voltage capacitor .... Amazing ... And I would like to know your circuit and how you generate the high voltage, it would be amazing .... Thanks for the great knowledge you have us .......

Cool vid. Jay. Most interesting application of a 'liquid' resistor (not referring to motor starting), as a cap. and then cascading the effect. I don't understand how the spark gaps 'switch', if I could see the the circuit - in two modes, it may be axiomatic. Sweet.
