DIY Lighted Constellation Canvas. SO PURTY! 

I did this for my best friend. I put a scorpip and virgo constellation for me and her and then i put "best friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're there"

This works awesome with LED string lights because they are shorter and easier to straighten and there is probably less risk of fire, it's even better if they are battery powered so you don't have to run a cord to the canvas. Also using black spray paint is a good short cut and looks great because it doesn't create streaks/lines and is totoally smooth. If your feeling intimidated by the project dont be, its pretty easy and looks amazing when its done.

I ended up making this on three 16x20 canvases, attaching them, and mounting them above my television. it's such a great addition to my house and i love pointing out the constellation that applies to all my friends' signs. thank you corinne!!

If you have a projector, I guess you can project the picture of the constellation on the canvas so that it would be easier to copy

This is so cute! However, for the lights I would really suggest using LED lights since it is a little safer next to canvas. I recently bought these remote controlled LED lights that would be perfect for this project!

I've seen black canvases sold in stores such as hobby lobby, so that might be very convenient for this project. Definitely want to try this out!

OH MY GOSH, this is such a perfect DIY! I absolutely have been dying to think of creative, different ways to use fairy lights to decorate my room and now I've found one! This is wonderful~

Dear gods no. Regular bulbs heat up over time and if you're having this lovely piece of artwork lit for any length of time you're asking for a fire hazard. LED lights are easy to pick up, don't heat up during use and use a lot less electricity. :)

I like it over the Hogwarts shelf

This video makes me wanna cry.....my senior year I made a couple dozen of these except as sky scrapers (our homecoming theme was night in NYC). Our dance committee advisor was older so basically let me do whatever I wanted and I came up with it on the fly and trial and error (hadn't seen this video) and did it all myself before and after school and during my free periods for 2 weeks cuz the 4 girls that were supposed to be helping me never showed up. Did I mention this wasn't the ONLY decoration set I did?! Our advisor helped as best she could and her daughter was amazing at helping (a freshman at the time). I'm happy to say when I see cute DIYs now that I make them for my house and on a much smaller scale and actually enjoy them now.
