DIY Lightsaber. I Make a Luke Skywalker Lightsaber in 4 hours Without Buying Anything!

A while ago I made a couple videos of how I made my son's Luke Skywalker costume for Halloween. I never did show the construction of the lightsaber, so here it is! It is made from a golf club protector tube, some aluminum tape and a few other bits and pieces. It is not totally accurate but it makes for a quick, good looking prop lightsaber.

I guess what I meant by that title, was that I made the lightsaber with stuff I already had around the house. Kinda to encourage people to have a look around and make use of available stuff.

I knew I wasn't the only one who suspected that foil tape has a lot more uses than the manufacturer wants us to know about :D Gonna use it on my foam proton pack, which you have provided the inspiration for!

That's so cool! I have a Force FX Luke lightsaber. I also created a lightsaber hilt for my alter ego Darth/Jedi Shadie using craft foam and acrylic paint and varnish. I use it for cosplay photos and I photoshop in the blade. I also recently completed a Sith holocron made from cardboard and craft foam and acrylic paint. Would you be able to make the helmet from Dragon Age Inquisition, the Inquisitor's helmet?

What an AWESOME build Chris!!!!!!! I love the creativity and passion that you have for realistic props!!!!! I have seen a few tutorials on steam punk clothing and chain mail. Maybe you could do a tutorial on a steam punk outfit to go with the top hat you made, or maybe chain mail to go with the armour tutorial.... Oh.....by the way that pink tray is almost all used up!!! Lastly can you tell me where you got your snazzy nacklace? Although I dont see it in this video,,,, it's sooooooo cool!!!!!!!

Yep thats the one Chris, the bread tag. I LOVE IT! I NEED to have my very own!!! How about a bread tag necklace tutorial? I have read that you were a jeweler. I would love to see some of your creations that you have made. I had an uncle that made silver and turquoise jewelry. In fact he made my mum a squash blossom many years ago. After my mum passed I received it. I have been thinking about making some jewelry myself. In fact thats how I ran across your channel. By far your channel is my favorite!!! legally it is Reys, because when anakin was defeated by obi wan kenobi it would go to luke but he was too young so it went to someone close to the family that being obi wan. When Luke is old enough he would give him his fathers lightsaber now making it lukes. Luke looses it in Sky city untill maz has it at this point it still legally being Luke’s cause it was lost. It was then given to Rey to give to Luke. Because luke threw it over the cliff it was no abandoned making it no ones lightsaber untill Rey picked it up now making it reys. Rey try’s giving it to Luke but fails now making the lightsaber reys untill she buries it in sand at the end of episode9. So it is reys.

@@anakinskywalker3034 Legally it's actually Finn's, as Rey actually declined Maz's offer of the lightsaber and Maz then gave it to Finn. Rey has pretty much been borrowing it the whole time from Finn, as he never said it was hers.

I needed a triangular piece of chainmail for a Freya costume (hanging below the tassets of the breastplate). I found a toy hammock at Goodwill - the ones you hang in the corner of a room to store kids' toys off the floor - cut out a piece and hit it with a couple different shades of spray paint. Just used a piece of duct tape to hold it in place, and it looked great in pictures!

Which version? There’s the one you see vader holding with the copper and the one he usually uses with none (in universe they’re supposed to be the same but it’s two different props)

for the handle grips, you could have cut the grips into T shapes and then it would be more screen accurate.

can confirm that aluminum tape requires a lot of rubbing. but really worth it because even if you do get a wrinkle, you can smooth it out with force. Aluminum tape is my favourite materiel to use on projects.

I think the tube is to reach golf balls off the ground and put it in like a seal or something. Because I used that thing for tennis but bigger.

a Foam Breast Plate. Like part of a full suit of armor. Maybe add some spike to make the look more evilish. P.S. Page 124 of the Dungeon and Dragon 3.5 edition players handbook has some really nice design of a spiked full plate armor.

I think it might be. There is also plastic foil tape, but you want to be sure it is actual metal foil.

I made some sabers out of cardboard. They weren’t anything special, more just a fun craft to keep me busy, but I found they were way too light, because cardboard doesn’t have much weight. I ended up adding rocks on the inside of the next ones to give them weight, but does anyone have possibly a better, yet still free or very cheap alternative?

What was the width of those golfing tubes? I want to use the grip template for my own Attack of the Clones Anakin lightsaber. Edit: I printed out the template in actual size, and it was too small for my 1.25 inch hilt.

Hmm, that's interesting, I just measured the diameter and it comes in at 1.25 inches as well. I'd double check that the pattern actually printed 100% scale. If so, let me know cause maybe I messed something up horribly!
