I really like the way this one turned out and I was very excited to share with you! What do you think? Now I'm inspired to swing by the thrift store today and see what I can find... wish me luck!
You should look into getting a couple more of these cases. A horizontal scape would look amazing as a long table center piece. Also I think it would be really cool if you did one of these but incorporated a broken, decaying baseball bat. Have moss growing on the bat while plants grow out of cracks in it.
@Super Clark what? dude, it's pretty rude to make that kind of speculation about this man's wife when all we know is that she asked him if he could make something cool for their living room. just enjoy his jaw-dropping plant art.
Thank you for posting. This is much beyond my imagination. Looks awesome and as you said, it's a million times better than the mood of a painting. Bless you wife for her innovative idea.
This is so awesome! Makes good use of the space between the door and the end of the wall. minimalistic yet captivating in its look and style. Almost like a bonsai tree in its minimalism.
Your builds are always so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your passion and talent so freely with us all here. I've just moved from the Hudson Valley of NY to the hills north of San Francisco, where I've been eyeing up the gorgeous mosses and greenery growing during this rainy season (winter). Before the spring comes, I intend to get a bit of a moss propagation setup going, so that I can pinch a bit from nature that will seed my future efforts to make some nice terrariums in your style. I'm playing the long-ish game with this, so I intend to start with cultivating some mosses and springtails, then some roly poly bugs (Isopods), so that I have a bunch of the elements of a bioactive terrarium at hand when I figure out what the best plants are to use in this climate. I appreciate everything you do, and have learned so much watching your videos.
Dude that is awesome!!!!!! Great idea!!!! I totally want to try this!!!! Living walls are my dream, I want an entire wall to be green with plants! Very inspiring build!!
An amazing work. Would like to get some update videos about how your old terrariums dong.. how long the survive.. and how you do the maintenanceI. watched the 2 years followup video and felt discouraged. But again amazing projects!
It's amazing! I'm learning a lot from watching your video. I want to be first as a terrarium designer like you in Korea. I'll look forward to the good video from now on!
Dude you could've filled that up with ping plants. A carnivorous succulent. That's perfect sub for them and the case would allow it to get humid which they LOVE
Not sure if the inside of the glass gets foggy after a bit from the humidity, an anti-fog spray used for scuba could solve it. Looks like the temperature and humidity is well balanced though
Hi Tanner! Great idea to upcycle this into a terrarium :) I'm making a bioactive vivarium for a corn snake, what plats would you recommend i plant in it?
That turned out nice. What causes mold or fungus in a closed "moss only" terrarium? I'm using a Jansjo desk light about 6 inches above the small terrarium. I just noticed the fungus or mold on the moss. I'm not sure how much light the moss needs?
Mr.Serpa have you checked out Kaylee Ellens GIANT living wall? Shes having some technical issues it would seem and some how I think you would have an idea or two on trouble shooting. Plus you might just find the size of it alone interesting. 🌱🐍💯👍
I don't know why but it kinda reminds me of a traditional japanese painting. Except that it's the real deal and not a painting. Or it's just me. Superb build as always.
Wow - that literally went a different direction than I thought it would.... Came out so nice. I wonder if something like this would work well with miniature orchids. The vertical aspect of it I think would complement the pendulous flowering patterns of many of the species.
Tanner, I must say that you--who routinely puts out high quality builds--have really outdone yourself this week. Top-notch stuff. Please keep us updated on its long-term health/success, I'd love to replicate this.
@@SerpaDesign idk if anyone has asked you yet but do you have a certain place you get your plants from? Trying to make my own terrarium and have been trying to find a dependable outlet for plants. ALSO where do you get your cocoa chips from? Preferred lights used for smaller sized terrariums? I'm aware you search for moss in the wilds when the weather applies.
@SerpaDesign Watched a few older videos of yours and Lowe's is where I go as well for my plants. Sorry for the questions that are most likely frequently asked. I absolutely Love your videos and thank you for all the extremely educational and information that you provide!
And that's being added to the wood elf culture in DnD. (At least how I view it) I already play a wood elf that loves plants. Maybe she'll figure out a magical aquarium...
I love this build so much and it stands out to me as, I could definitely build something like this to put in my living room. Love your work, keep on going
Hey Tanner, just wanted to point out that technically what you are using to cut that spider wood are flush cutters, not wire cutters. If people are trying to get that type of tool it would be much harder to find it if they are searching for wire cutters which are substantially bulkier, and do not make a nice clean cut
Dangit, Tanner. There should really be a contest where everyone submits pictures of the random oddball glass containers they happen to have and let the winners send them in for a build. This one is seriously tempting me to build a horizontal version for my cubby at work!
I love this! I've always admired living walls but I had thought of them (with no real logic/research backing) as being technologically difficult to create or maintain and out of my reach price wise. This actually feels doable!
Hi all DIY terrarium builders. i recently was walking through a retail store that is going out of business and they were selling EVERYTHING!!! and realized that the small acrylic boxes that they use for holding small cheap items would make great terrariums. and they were dirt cheap too so if you ever find a store that is going out of business you can grab some dirt cheap acrylic boxes to use for terrariums/vivariums!
This is right in line with what I have envisioned for my Living Room Renovation!! Husband has given me a green light for turning one useless window (there is now a bedroom on the other side) into a Living Space for plants and mosses from our woods. What hubby doesn't know is that is going to be the focal point...and the Living walls will continue on through the room. This project is perfect! Thank you!!!
I think this is my favorite of everything of yours I have seen so far...I want one of these for my office now. I am impressed you got that case for $6. Online they are like $90-125. Would the CFL overhead lights in the office be enough or would I need to supplement the lighting? I have a window, but there are a ton of trees outside so I don't get a lot of sunshine in it. In fact I run a blue grow light in the corner of my office a couple hours a day in the winter to help keep the circadian rhythms in sync. I know you grow your own moss, but are those available online? I don't see them often in the plant centers around me. Again, great job! LOVE this one.
Makes me want to do these for when we get our own place! Animal and kid friendly! So long you secure it to the wall well lol. Would this work with using shadow box frames as well?
Clicked before RU-vid gave a notification. Looks fantastic but I’d be afraid I would nock it off so if I made one similar it have to be a area with almost not traffic. I actually have a picture frame with that is over a inch thick and been thinking of having a moss garden.
he seems like a nice guy and i like his builds but the fact that he is using the same exact voice intonation for each phrase he says is driving me insane
Is there an update video on this build? How did the air plants do long term? It is so lovely and something I have been thinking about for a while now - a vertical moss garden. I really need to get it moving along.
Super dumb question: if these are plants why will he not have to water them? And isnt their access to oxygen limited? Again ik this is dumb question for people here
He will have to water, just not much. It's because it's a closed glass box, so the moisture inside has nowhere to go, it can't evaporate into the air and be lost, so everything will stay moist.
You could use a toolbox (such as the one you used for your terraining tool kit) for your moss growing. Of course it has to be open when growing the moss, which may take up some space, but there are still small sections for starting out various moss colonies and a big section for developed colonies!
Do you know anywhere that sells that thread moss, it looks great! Or if it grows in the UK so that I could try find some? EDIT: Never mind I just found some on amazon
Can u skip the egg crate n put moss directly on the coco? I'd assume yes but how are u going to keep the moss in a vertical position without falling off? Hence the egg crate?🤔 nice job. Did something like this but it was horizontal and def not as detailed, sealed in a case or as nice 😆
