So many beautiful cards over the years, yes store bought... now gone... This would be a lovely way to remember a loved one who is no longer here using a card they gave you.
Love the birds! My cousin just sent me some vintage Christmas cards she found cleaning out her mother’s house when she passed. I can’t wait to see what I can come up with. ❤️
Yes red is the correct color it compliments the birds. Tfs, your tutorial is excellent! I love that you used a Christmas card to make the ornament. I love handmade ornaments and will practice so I can make one for several people on my list. Thanks again.
If it were me, I'd get a kick out of them using the cards I'd sent them before. Somebody mentioned they think on the back they'll put who sent it to them and which year, and I think that would be cool to receive. It would be very personalized.
This ornament is really beautiful! What a gorgeous way to use Christmas cards. Thanks for showing us the inexpensive 'gold' foil. I had never seen that before but would like to try it.
Very nice video and turned out lovely. However, if you want to keep these as lovely for a long time, you should used a very clean brush to pick up and apply the faux gold leaf flakes, otherwise the oils on your hands will cause them to darken and lose there shine over time. Then you should put a sealer as air will also oxidize them. Just gorgeous and will be prized and passed down. Merry Christmas!🎄🎄🎄
I am MESMERIZED by your creativity and talent!! All of this from an old card! Holy Moly! I was glued to my computer. You are remarkable! Thanks for this tutorial. My mind is enlarged!!! Merry Christmas!
Good Morning . Thanks for sharing . How you made your gorgeous . Keepsake ornament to go on the Christmas Tree . These are to be cherished . And handed down from generation to generation . The Lord Bless . You And Family .🙏
This is so absolutely gorgeous I want to be able to make these as well. This is my first time finding you as well and I need to find out how to make your 3-inch circles that you mentioned you've discussed before or maybe we can find one of your videos that will teach us. I would love to make a set of these and either keep for myself or give away for gifts. Thank you so much for sharing your ornament ideas.
My first time watching your videos. This is such a great idea. I always feel bad after Christmas and I throw out the lovely cards. Not anymore. I think I’ll write on the back of the ornament who gave me the card and the year. Thank you for sharing such a sweet idea. 😊
Janis I think the idea of recycling the cards is a great way of having the memory of the individual who sent you the card that they included you in their celebration.
You never cease to amaze me! You make the most beautiful things out of the simplest items and this ornament is just beautiful and the red tassel really makes it pop. Thanks so much for this wonderful idea. I have seen you use the bales before but I'm unable to find them. Can you tell me where you get them, what size, and the name? Thanks.
Bails can usually be found in craft stores (hobby lobby, Michael's) with the beads and findings. It seems like I got mine on ebay but etsy and Amazon and Fire Mountain Beads are other possibilities. It's easiest to get them in person so you can see the size.
@@cassfonnesbeck8057 thank you! I looked at Hobby Lobby today again in the jewelry and bead aisle but didn't see any that look like what you use. I'll try other place.
when people send you Christmas cards ( which is getting less and less due to the amount of postage these days) keep the nice ones and do the same thing
I loved this ornament. I have subscribed and I scanned through your videos to find a video for the 3in circle base but can not find it. I do not know what you used for materials for that base. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Just found your video. Do you have a link to how you made the base? I scrolled through your videos but couldn't find it but will be watching more of them. You do very beautiful work. Thank you
I just came across you site but... I have not done ANY craft type projects & for sure can be described as a Newby. I do have a lot of Christmas cards w/o envelopes that I could turn into ornaments. Do you have a video listing the tools you use? I recognized (I think) the paint brush but not the cutting device or the thing you used to place the crystals. If you have one could you post the link? You have a lot of videos but I didn't see one that list tools specifically. If you don't have one I bet I'm not the only one who would appreciate a tutorial... I know... my request for "hints" is kinda like a rock being dropped on your foot.
I agree your voice and demeanor is very comforting. God bless you and yours. Your tutorial is very precise and love how you covered every step of the process.
My first time here, too. The red tassel makes the berries pop so I believe it was the right decision. Ironically, we don't have Christmas, but I love this idea for birthday gifts for our grandkids. I thought it would be a great idea to use their own pictures, decorate them with their favorite colors, and add tassels, charms, or anything else that would show what they love. It could be a basketball, a dog, maybe a flute, their initials, or a school LOGO. How fun to have that hanging on their bedroom door, their wall, or possibly in their school locker. Just some additional ideas I had while watching you make this. Now, i can't wait to get started. We have 21 grandchildren (so far) so I have my work cut out for me. lol OH! I just might make a day of it and have them help me, too. What a great way to make new memories and enjoy each other's company. Thanks so very much for this!
I agree that both the white and the red tassels look nice on that ornament. But, I like the red best because it goes so well with the red gem. Beautiful ornament! Thanks for your inspirational videos!
So beautiful! Thanks so much for this tutorial! These are perfect for small Christmas gifts. And, the amount of time and love in making each one will make them a treasured gift for years to come!🌲
Lori, for me you never make mistakes It looks beautiful w/ red teasel The whole ornament looks so beautiful God bless your hands God bless you and your family Thank you for everything you teaching us ❤🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼
First time watching and thrilled I came across your channel. I'm a "bird-aholic" and love Christmas, so I'll be on the lookout for cards in which I can make ornaments. I'll go through my previous cards, as I save them year-to-year, and see what I can start on for next Christmas.
My mother in law would save all kinds of cards for recycling ♻️ to make something else. She used birthday cards, Christmas cards, wedding cards, etc. She saved everything. Then she would rework them into decorations or pictures or Christmas Advent Calendar boxes for her grandchildren. One year she took an old wooden Coke bottle case and painted it in all the nooks and crannies. Then she cut the Christmas cards to match the shape so it would flap down to cover the small square opening. She glued it to the inside top of the opening. She did this for each square opening to total the days of December. After the card covers had all dried she filled each opening with enough candies 🍬 and treats for each child in our family. Oh, I forgot. Before she glued the cards onto the box she wrote the day number on each card. My kids were elated!! We reused that Advent calendar for many years. It was time consuming but grandma was artsy crafty that way. I like arts and crafts too, so I got a lot of inspiration from her.😊
I had bought a bag of the wooden pieces, some round and some oval and never could figure out how to make them into a nice ornament! Your ornament is so beautiful and your ideas the best! I love it! Hope your Christmas is as beautiful as your ornament!
I just wanted to tell you that I’m so sorry for your loss…our pets are our family, our babies…we mourn the loss no differently ~~ I love that you made him Christmas ornaments every year ! This ornament would be absolutely perfect!! God Bless 💕🙏💕
I love how you cut the pics out of the card. I have used that exact gold around the edge of a wood ornament. I also got several colors from Amazon. It is actually very inexpensive and comes out so beautiful. You add so much detail and embellishments that enhance the beauty of the ornament. Thanks for showing this! 🥰🎄
Lori , that is absolutely gorgeous!! I think what appeals to me with your pieces is all the detail work. As you know, I love detail work myself, and your creations are always stunning. Since watching your first one, were you use that base I’ve ordered the card stock. I’ve ordered the Fabri-tax. I’ve ordered some triple thick as my old jar was dried up. I just have to get the glitter paper or card stock for the ends. I already have strings of pearls in my stash that I can use I know I have a bunch of cards and I do have some rhinestones. I will have to get a few of those little paints that you used to accent it and the gold flakes ,but I’m excited to make this project! And I don’t think you could go wrong on the tassel as either one would’ve looked gorgeous. I think the red pulled all the red down from the top and really went well. Had you used the white it would’ve been gorgeous as well. Thank you for a wonderful tutorial. I absolutely enjoyed every minute. And cannot wait to make something similar ,of course ,using the cards I have.😁❤️
New to your channel loving it already I make other decorations out of my old cards never would have guessed it love your idea best thank you, thank you❤🎅☃️🙏 Merry Christmas!!!!!!
I really enjoy watching you doing these crafts you do. They remind me of my dear grandma when she use to craft. These are the old school crafting that I grew up with. Thanks for the sweet memories. You are doing a great job in bringing beauty to your world. God bless you!
I've never seen you on RU-vid before and I love what you are doing with the ornament, but I would have liked to have had a link to how you did the base for the ornament and a link to it would have helped a lot with this. The ornament is so pretty and so well-done. Love it. :D For me--I love the red tassel. The ornament just keeps getting more and more beautiful and I've so enjoyed watching you create it.
I love your ornament. I save my Christmas cards each year so I;m going to make some ornaments. This is the first time I have watched you. How did you make the circle? What is it made of?
I absolutely LOVE this!! You came to my rescue! I have a similar project in mind, but couldn't think how to glam it up and still honor the memory it's meant for. This is perfect. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
Hi Happy Bird, This ornament is so pretty. The gold flakes brings it to a whole new level. Those flakes are on my HL list. A tip I was given that has saved me a lot of time is to add a dot of hot glue to whatever glue your using to give it a secure hold while the other glue is drying so you can continue on with the craft. Obviously it wouldn’t work with the flakes. Ex: had u added a dot of hot glue after putting on the other glue to the bale u could have continued with the pearls . You may already know this and would rather wait for things to dry. I thought I would mention incase you or your subscribers were not aware of what I find is a great tip.😊
I just stumbled on this and would love to try it. How did you make your circle base and where can I find a 3 inch punch like that?? I love this idea. My parents are both gone and I'd love to memorialize them using the old cards they sent.
If you don't have a punch use a small jar lid, trace a circle and cut it out by hand. I cut a circle out of a piece of card board, so it looks like a window. This allows you to see exactly what your circle will look like.
