This is my favorite Dough recipe. I have ornaments that are 40 years old that I made from this recipe. They are in beautiful shape even after all this time.
Good to know! I just made about 100 tiny stars and hearts to make a garland so I was hoping they would last for a long time :) I made some with my dog's pawprints too so of course I want to cherish those for years to come
Honestly, this is more complex than mine (also holding fine after about 20 years). 1 cup of flour for one cup of salt.. use about 1/2 cup of water (depending on weather, humidity level, etc… dough must be like pasta dough in the end). No need to warm anything, no need to wait… it just will air dry in a few days. Paint, add ordinary transparent matt or glossy varnish, and you’re done. 😊
I thank you for sharing your recipe and talent. I can not wait to go see my grandchildren and do these. I have a large bag of cookie cutters that were my mommy's, we used them for cookies when I was little, now we can use to make our ornaments. Yours are really beautiful. I always take notes while I watch interesting videos, so for those of you that don't, 1/2 cup corn starch, 1 cup baking soda, 3/4 cup water, preheat oven to 250 degrees then bake for 20-30 min or until hard😁
Lol, I do the same thing, I thought maybe I was the only one that did that while everyone else rewatched if need be, I'm happy to read in not the only old school mom, old habits die hard!
Oh this is perfect for doing with the grand-daughter! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe .. I was a little distracted with dogs barking and family wanting their supper .. the nerve! lol
Cook on the stove top until it becomes the consistency of sticky mashed potatoes. Form to a ball and allow to cool on countertop using a little cornstarch to dust the suface. Cover with a slightly damp cloth to cool. Dust with a little cornstarch and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and use cookie cutters to cut out your ornaments. Use a straw to put a hole in top of each of you’re hanging them. Place on cookie sheet and bake in a 250° oven until hard…abt 20 to 30 minutes or until hard. Can be painted with acrylic paints
I love this dough, and have ornaments from the 80's that are just as lovely as when I made them. Thank you for sharing and reminding me that maybe I need to make some new ones!
Yes i remember making these in 70s 80s...how we have forgotten the simple things in life such as these ornaments. I did the salt ones.. we painted them
So pretty... I made these for years with Elementary students in a Before & After School Program. They also look great Embossed with prints. Emboss the print before baking. After baking, thin your paints a little and do a wash, quickly wipe off with a soft cloth. This technique makes them look very vintage and antique. I have also used rubber stamps with permanent ink.
Excellent project for adding names which can be presented by adding them to a wrapped gift as part of the decoration. One idea: Front - Sandy 2022 Back - Love, Nana Smith
I heard this is known as “cold porcelain”, but I’ve never worked with either. I’d like to make some non-Christmas ornaments from this recipe that are shaped like flowers and hearts, add a ribbon at the top, and decorate them with nice words and give them to friends.
Can’t wait to make these ! They are so pretty thank you for sharing you recipe . I’m now a new subscriber . Looking forward to seeing more of your videos! ❤😊
I just found you. I’m glad I did. I have never heard of this recipe. I’m doing it tomorrow as soon as I get the corn starch and baking side. Love it❤❤❤❤
I am so glad I stumbled across your channel! I adore these ornaments and can’t wait to make some. Thank you for sharing your gift with others! MERRY CHRISTMAS!🎄 🎅🏻
cut the tip of the straw off with a pair of scissors each time and how about using a double broiler so that you don’t burn your pot, you could put food coloring in the water if you want to add color. Your idea is great, so Simple!
Thank you for an inexpensive way to spend time with your grandchildren, children or any little ones and maybe some bid ones also. Your directions were clearly spoken and easy to understand and a joy to listen to. Your finished products are so pretty I wish you were selling them. Merry Christmas to you and yours.🎄 🎆
Beautiful! And I think this would be a wonderful project for any holiday...Easter...Valentine's...etc, what fun to make a set for every occasion..thanks for sharing!
I can see other uses for this dough. You can make some custom magnets or even little wine glass markers or paperweights. All kinds of stuff. Little tiny mini ornaments that you could use to make a Garland too like beads or would that be too thick? Cute little shapes without holes that you can hot glue onto a wreath that you made like a leaf or something? Or even a 3D Rose. Just wonder if it works as well as a baking clay... I would appreciate anybody commenting here who's tried anything else with this recipe to chime in!
Back in the 80s my sister and I tried making cookies and they turned out hard as rocks but the kids enjoyed it and even though they were anything but edible they smelled so good. Thank you for sharing this recipe my grandchildren will enjoy doing this craft. Happy Holidays.
Thank you so much for this video about the Corn starch dough... They are absolutely gorgeous and I love the look of the white and there is so much you can do with them... This was a wonderful video and I thank you for sharing... Going to give it a try... May the blessings of this glorious season be with you and your family....
I made up a few batches of these after watching your video. Glad I stumbled on your video now. I tried a recipe from off of Pinterest and they turned out terrible. The ones I made after watching here turned out great. I painted them to look like porcelain. Did a holy motif and they looked so pretty. I had to bake mine an extra 10 mins but they still turned out good.
Loved the video, I may do something similar, but having made snow encrusted pine cones I have lots of sparkly clear snowflake glitter, which I think will look good around the edges. 🎄😊👍
My dad used to make those. I make cinnamon and applesauce ornaments...two ingredients..no cooking and they smell good for years. Kids love making ornaments but I do too. Yours are beautiful.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create these pretty ornaments. It’s a really great idea, and I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too.
Thank you so much for the recipe as well as the tutorial. (Have a twelve year old grand daughter who is quite artistic and does rock painting so I imagine she would like this craft as well. For her projects when using paint, she uses 'nail art brushes' that work well for fine details.)
I think the clear-type litter all over looks the best, on the back too, & maybe decorate both sides for a hanging mobile. Clear fishing line also works v. well for hanging pcs like this.
Very pretty. I've made this type of clay. My recipe added baby oil and school glue. The ornaments that I made with my great grandchildren seem to last forever. I also found a recipe for cold poriclin clay that doesn't need to be cooked. Haven't tried that one yet.
❤❤❤❤ # REPLAY. NEWBIE MY 1ST TIME SEEING YOUR VIDEO. LOVE IT. GOTTA WRITE THIS RECIPE DOWN. YOU DID AN AMAZING CRAFT. THX FOR SHARING ❤❤❤❤ ANNA FROM, NEW MEXICO . WHERE YOU FROM ❤❤
Love this. The end result is amazing. I love to deco podge and seeing you seal this with mod podge just clinched the deal. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I remember doing this when I was really young, 4 or 5 maybe. I will have to revive this for my grandsons. I have cookie cutters I used as a child and have my husbands from his younger years also. Perfect project idea. Thank you!
I would probably suggest a real fine grit sanding block just to get off any additional powder on the surface but using the fine grit along the edge you could get all the chunky bits off the cutting edge to make them look really nice and clean right? Just want to know if you've tried that method to knock off the little hanging off pieces? I don't think that you need to seal your artwork if you're using acrylic butt what type of sealant or spray would you suggest? Besides mod podge I just want to know what else works well without yellowing... Definitely could make an outdoor sealant for them if you wanted to use these outside, I think!
I was just curious are these very fragile or relatively sturdy? I was going to use clear coat spray paint for the final seal coat to keep on the glitter. Nice job by the way!
I would also like to know if you could take some glitter and just add them in specific areas...like even using a paintbrush after the painted design has dried to paint a little of the same sealant on the branches only and tacking down the green glitter and then using some sealant on the red berries only and that way the red glitter sticks to the berries only. I think that would work it would just be an extra step to make sure your glitter is only where you want it. I think it takes away from your design which is beautiful, to just broadcast glitter everywhere but that's just me. I guess what I'm asking is it wouldn't hurt anything to have a little extra sealant. It would just probably make it bumpy... Hmmm
