This comment is long but if you are looking for alternative methods to help make this hat skim this comment it may help) Thank you so much for this tutorial. It was legit the only source that could help me with this project. Im being a fairy for halloween and it was a great tutorial! I didnt want to buy fabric stiffener because it was like 16 bucks but i used hairspray. It didnt hold as well as i hoped but my boss at joanns told me to mix elmers glue with water and spray that and it does the same thing so if anyone else is reading this and wondering, try that instead!
Oh and i did not have any needlefelting materials so i just used green felt cut into strips and used a bit of hot glue to wrap a wire to make a curly calyx. The only part i actually sewed was the petals together. Rest was hot glue and it turned out amazing. I had some trouble keeping my hat on with the extra weight from the wire and glue, but i got this BRILLIANT idea to glue little (strong) magnets onto the inside of the hat and put a few anchoring hair pins on my head (basically straight back from my temples) and it worked so well im really proud of the idea… heh.
I’m glad the glue was a good workaround for you!! One reason that I sprung for the Milliner’s fabric stiffener is that I knew I would be making a hat I would be wearing to perform eight weekends of renfest outdoors, but there’s not a WRONG way to make a project for yourself!
I'm making myself a hat for my first ever Renfaire and I was feeling a bit intimidated from just searching for images online, but thanks to your video I have a much better plan of attack!
I LOVE THIS !!!! So interesting, lovely and informative . Thank you for such an interesting video filled with actual informative visuals as well I want to do this! Your kitty is super adorable and so beautiful!! Felt is such a good idea and I love the way you painted it to look like petals do. You are genuinely artistic and creative 😻😺😸😻💗🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️💗💕💕 Also the measurement diagrams you drew were really visually helpful and clear too! Also I've never seen anyone dry felt before it looks really fun!!!! Thank you for all this information I wanted to make big flowers for Halloween outside decorations I think this might be how I'll do that!! Right sides together is the right way for petals because that's how they unfold - This is so gorgeous and so realistic! Xxxx 💖💕💗😻🥰😍😻😊🥰😍🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️💗💗💕💖💕💖💜😻
This would be a great hat for a Radagast cosplay. Felt hat, woolen gloves, linen robes, wooden staff all natural as it's suppose to be. And halloween is coming in less than a moon...hum...
Do you think if I use some extra acrylic paint and dry it in a curled shape they will stay curled? Idk, Edit: just realized that won't work lol but maybe clear glue will, I'll let you know
I think I may use wire to make the hat movable instead of fabric stiffener, as I don't want to have to go out to buy something that probably isn't even available in my country!
I love your tutorial my daughter and her bff want to make blossom hats for their cosplay as well and I'm wondering how much fabric did you need? Because of school they are only able to come together shortly before the event and we need the fabric before that so we have to measure afterwards
I didn’t use very much fabric at all! I made the yellow hat with the precut 8”x11” craft felt rectangles. I used more for the blue hat with longer petals, but still only in about 1/3 of a yard probably
I am making this flower hat for my daughter-in-law; she lives in Montana. I was wondering how much more do you add to the length of the petal? Her measurement to her forehead to the nap of her neck is 13". Is this the measurement to use for the length of the petal?
I like etsy or other mediums that let you buy it pretty much straight from the sheep farmer! The wool I used in this video is from www.etsy.com/shop/CurlyFurr
@@RBPeder Hard to be exact since I used a little bit off of a few colors from their garden sample pack, but all in all not much! Probably about 1/2 -3/4 an ounce for the stem and calyx together!
