DIY: Making Concrete Garden Pots 

i am an artist from Greece, the first 2 pots that i made after i saw this video were sold within the first day i got them to a garden shop. Tommorrow i might have an order of 80 pots. Thank you so much

I've never seen such a care with plants, as you do! It looks like a mother taking care of a baby beautiful and amazing instructions! I'ts good touching the ingredients feel smelling and and then is easy go washing hands! Taking cares as someone takes care with a baby! Congtratulations!!!

I do agree 100% with Lee Travathan. The Gardener mag has a creative mind and I like her videos, but protective gear is important part for these projects.

Well, I see I'm 4 years late in commenting, but tonight is the first time that I've ever seen this video & I just wanted to let you know that I truly enjoyed it. Thanks for being so thorough. As for the gloves & mask thing, I made some draped hypertufa pots last week for the first time ever & did NOT use gloves - no one warned me & NO, I didn't know, so let's just say I learned my lesson the hard way, but all is good. I put straight coconut oil on it daily & its working great. Thanks again!!!

Stunning and easy indeed

Putting a paper coffee filter in the bottom helps the potting soil not to drain out of the pot. P.S. You may need to layer two or three paper coffee filters.

Your explanation is very good. It is very nice and easy to make and i think so help to grow to plant in early 💐

Hi all! We agree 100% with everybody re the gloves and masks. At the time of filming these videos, it didn't even dawn on us to use gloves. Us gardeners here in South Africa can be a little oblivious when it comes to such things. So please, do use some gloves, even if it is a pair of surgical gloves as well as a dust mask. In South Africa, both these items are available from your local hardware store. Perhaps some of our International viewers could recommend outlets in your area? Kind Regards

You could also sieve the peat first to remove the unwanted lumps, just a thought.

Every other recipe for this calls for perlite. I was wondering why you don't? It also says to wear gloves and face protection. So I bought some to be on the safe side. However I love watching your videos. I have watched others and you make it so much easier. Thanks so much!!!

This is a cool video and i have made my first pot.Its perfect and i love it..thank u

It's crazy but I got quite excited thinking I could play with cement without bothering with gloves (done it before but my fingers got a pinch wrinkly and squinched up) then I see that you are supposed to wear gloves. Sigh. By the time you've masked and gloved up, strapped on your safety belt and put on your steel capped boots, the theatre sister has gone home and you have to do it all on your own. Love the look of the mossed pot. A tip from the cement manufacturer is to keep your cement damp for 7 days (especially if you are plastering walls) - it makes the cement much stronger and helps prevent cracking from too fast drying. You use a very fine spray to dampen the walls or even drape damp cloths on the walls, and you could just cover your pot, in the mould, with a damp cloth - don't put it in a bath of water.

Thank for sharing, a unique different way to make a pot. Using elements that gives your pot a different look. Using some organic materials as well; I have seen pots that were made of only cement, some using sand, cement and rocks. This is fantastic! I use my hands when I work as well; my minor is art. The hands are what gives the personality to your art, your signature. Yes, some people need to work with gloves, mask and eye protection, I do use when I work with wood or other materials but, when I am molding I like to use my hands without gloves. Thank you for sharing your technique.

Absolutely fantastic. Thank You. This is the 1st SA gardener I have seen doing this. Everything I've watched is from the US. This was made so easy and with very little fuss. I've also seen people using table cloths or bath towels and then draping it over a table to dry. I want to plant flowers in them, something that doesn't need deep root stability. Would you recommend this?

We don’t use peat any longer in the U.K. Peat free compost is the norm her now as peat bogs take thousands of years to form and we have been digging them up for far too long. It’s a scarce environment and needs to be conserved for the health of our planet.

Hi Tanya.. I am from India.. I loved your video.. By the way, I have question. ..what exactly do you mean by Dry Cement mix ? Is it only a dry cement or mixture of Cement and fine Sand or something else (in some ratio/proportion) ?.. before watching your video, I have tried making couple of pots with normal cement+sand mix (1:3 ratio), but never heard of peat being used.... I will try this method, but need to know about cement mix... thanks.

Thumbs up, but I made these for some years ago only with concrete without peat, leave them better in the bog. And it's also perfect for sempervivums or something like that, too. :)

can these sit outside in the rain and weatheer? if they get wet will they fall apart? i mean in pouring rain...

Thank you for your video; agree, you must wear gloves when working with cement though :) Do you soak or rinse the pots before planting so as to leach lime out, or some find it not necessary?
