I'm thinking if you place the magnetrons at a distance proportional to microwave wave length, than maybe they amplify each other better. Or they might not! the other option would be to have some reflective surfaces in front of them to randomize the output a bit more as they do in some microwaves. That would steer the waves a bit more especially if the surfaces move. ALSO! to get larger sparks from the foil, don't ball it, but leave strips of foil close to each other and that should look more magnificent! AND... no I'm done [Edit] oh wait! to see the wave pattern in the oven you could leave a cardboard box in it for 10 seconds and look at it with a thermal camera

My GE microwave from 2005 finally crapped out. At first ru-vid.comUgkxO_Bc204MGjxDl87cOKcdgaRhzSqGmv_g I was unsure because I was looking for something with the exact same features. Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!

Electrical engineer here, you should shield the magnetrons that could be unsafe exposed like that, principally because you have many of those side by side. also, depending on the distance you put them appart, and the phase of the waves, they might not even be more powerfull than a single magnetron, they could even cancel out each other and you'd end up with less power being transmitted.

Also, I wonder if making the microwave chamber larger ended up boosting the power or decreasing it. Because microwaves do bounce off of metal, so it's not like a lot of energy would be escaping by making it bigger. But on the other hand, the same amount of microwave energy in a smaller space might mean the microwaves are in more frequent contact with the object inside.

This is awesome, and I loved it, I would have just changed one thing, I would make a mark 2 or v2 with a magnetron on each side of the cube, so there’d be 6 total. I know it’s overkill, but it would be cool to see how items react with that many microwaves hitting from each side at once

Lighters will never explode unless you break the entire containment space for the gas simultaneously. This is something learned as a... wayward child. Small holes especially melted ones, near an ignition source, always give a flame thrower. I think the burning gas melts the edges of the hole and makes them reseal. The classic method requires a small bit of skill to hit the ground right, like knife throwing, but you throw the lighter in such a way as to hit the plastic base against the ground and shatter it all in one go. We always used to joke about throwing it down next to a candle... but never tried it. Maybe you should. Just... insert an appropriate disclaimer here. :P

Pro-tip from someone who had unlimited access to broken electronics like microwaves, and tools too as a kid: If you're only after the magnetron, JUST TAKE A POWER SAW TO IT. I did this kind of thing all the time when I was, like, 13 and once I understood circuits enough. Seriously, it's way easier and you can usually tell where the magnetron is by looking inside the microwave (like where you put the food) and locating the grate that you can see it through. Then just cut around that area. I've never seen a magnetron bigger than 6 by 6 by 8 inches. That's important, because it means you're unlikely to damage the magnetron if you cut the microwave open with a saw (and are careful). That biggest one was from taking apart a very large (but still much smaller than the one you made) microwave that looked like it came from a small commercial kitchen. Usually the magnetron is situated near the center of the microwave (likely in an effort to shield the user from microwave radiation as much as possible, even though that kind isn't dangerous to people since the wavelength is too big to pass through human cells). So that makes it even less likely that sawing the thing open will damage the part you need from it most. And I'd say like 50+% of the time, when a microwave breaks, it's not the magnetron. I found that often, when the magnetron fails, you can still measure a charge in the big capacitor(s) that feed power to the magnetron. I'd often attach a resistor to the microwave's capacitor before measuring it, that way if the broken microwave was sitting around for years, I can still see there's a charge left even with any leakage that's likely to occur over time, especially if the microwave has been been stored in sub-optimal conditions (and given that some microwaves are designed to discharge their capacitors to a certain point when the microwave isn't in operation).

The body of the regular Microwave oven protected the contents from radiation, the same way it protects us by stopping it leaking out, and because the radiation from the Mega Microwave oven killed the regular oven before the 2 minutes were up, it was barely cooked at all.

It probably would've been a good idea to put the Faraday cage around the mega microwave instead of making one that's just barely big enough for one person to fit into.

Could you possibly do a parallel input series output with 2 or four😁 of the transformers and 4 /8 of the capacitors then feed that into one of the magnetrons? It would kinda be neat to see how much a magnetro could take as well as how much it could output and cook when seriously overclocked! Bet it would explode a coconut really wel!

You should have extended the box to cover the magnetrons. (they would still be divided from the main chamber of coarse so you wouldn't end up with them microwaving themselves in the process). Have you ever wondered why the entire microwave is made of metal and not just the cage area that surrounds your food chamber? That is probably why you were getting leakage issues. ;)

If just mount magnetrons to a box like that it usually never works properly, because they end up cancelling each other out. You need to use waveguides, and the magnetrons have to be impedance matched to work properly.

I was going to do this years ago, but decided against it due to the high levels of radiation. At 4:25 you made me nervous. Even though it may have been unplugged, those 1uF / 2kv caps hold a charge for a little while. It takes time for the internal 10M resistor to bleed off the charge. Be careful!
