Anyone wanting to do this: you NEED to ventilate the room with the resin and you have to wear a proper respirator. Epoxy is not meant to be inhaled and can make you seriously ill.
Yes and it doesn't always make you sick the first day you do it. It can make you ill much later. She wore a mask for the dusting but not for the paint. Those fumes are nothing to play around with when it comes to your health and safety
If i open all the windows and doors am i reliable for the people who inhaled it outside our house?you see, in my neighborhood the space between houses are not that far from one another so i'm worried if it'll get me in trouble, like legally, trouble.......?????
Fun fact: Epoxy is quite a toxic to work with. And in some contries you need a specialized course which teaches you how to handle toxic products like Epoxy. People of YT who desires to try this at home. Before working with Epoxy, look up the specific products MAL code, which indicates how toxic the product is. Which in turn can point at what safty equipment should be used :) Stay safe out there everyone
I’d love to redo my basement floor like this, but have allergies and asthma. Could you suggest a low VOC alternative that looks similar please. Thanks.
@@kandykane2160 yeah sure,i should have said that's not a witty fact, enjoyable fact or entertaining fact because it's a concerning fact cause we're dealing with toxic for those who wants to try it or you could say 'not so fun fact'people prefer that more,my mistake:).
Nope, looks like dirty, stained concrete glossed over. Because it's a basement it will be about 10-15 degrees colder than it was with the carpet depending on where the house is located and, It will cost more to heat. The carpet provided insulation. Imagine when they paint the walls grey, kind of like a depressing storage container.
WARNING : When epoxying a floor, open all vents and doors to allow air circulation. If necessary, use tools to exchange air more quickly. Gas from the epoxy reaction can be detrimental to health Lungs
@@yuliazni3389 maybe it is dangerous, but not to the extent you're saying. This is nothing lol people lean from 30 story to clean windows without harness here lol. Cut wood without sawstop it's not that dangerous.
That’s what it looks like! A glossy cement floor. I like it though. If she furnishes and decorates it nicely, it’s going to be way better than the carpet. It’ll have the warehouse loft look. It looks better than I expected tbh. Anyone who says this looks bad isn’t good at interior design. This can definitely be a stunning room
When you fill cracks in concrete foloors, you need to use a v notch grinding disk, then, when you fill the crack with a two stage epoxy, you need to put sand so that the top layer will adhere. This is vital to ensuring the topping will not fail.
It is a assumption that the floor would be cold. Believe it or not there are houses being built with 4" of rigid foam underneath the poured basement floor as well as hot water tubing run through the concrete. All of which leads to warm floor systems. Even without those measures area rugs and wearing slippers in the basement will be just as comfortable.
Turned your home into a warehouse… so welcoming and vibrant. Plus sitting on and playing on a concrete floor is so much better than carpet… nothing like the kids cracking their heads open in the basement either
This was so satisfying to watch! I actually hate carpet, it's so dirty! I would rather just have this type of flooring & just buy some nice area rugs to place under the furniture or seating areas. U can always Professionally clean or replace the rugs as necessary 😊❤
I like when people do the epoxy. Where they actually pour the patterns themselves, the epoxy does some of the work, but a lot more of it shows different colors.
Be aware to use PPE when using stuff like this, as another commenter said it can make you very sick if you do not. PPE stands for personal protective equipment.
You know that puts off toxic fumes forever right? It looks great but it's so bad for you. If you start noticing headaches often and other more frequent illnesses definitely look into removing that apoxy.
Looks great. We run a propane torch over our metallics to get the bubbles out if needed. Usually we blast the floors and don’t often have that problem but if you need to use a torch be careful to over heat the epoxy. And wear a solvent mask if you can epoxy can release microplastics when being worked with.
Didn’t expect to get likes from this but another recommendation for those done diy epoxy is to use Bondo to fill cracks. Sand them down right after it sets up but in my experience it works best. At least for my climate I’m out of Tulsa so I imagine her concrete moister levels are similar
Ugh i love resin floors. The ONLY downside they have is how soft they are, thus easy to scratch and scuff. Waxing or buffing is a must with these but my god, you can create incredible patterns and designs with it. Well done girlie!!!!
Sand the clear top coat top smoothe the floor of bubbles/ hard debris. Then apply a clear polyurethane. The top coating gets super hard and less likely tonscratch, and usually chemical resistant. Never need to buff or wax them
honestly at first i thought it wasnt gonna look good but it actually looks so sick, like just imagine that with some led lights, a star projector, and a big tv screen, it’d feel like you’re in space
It’s so pretty!!! I like the paint on the left (I think it’s squirrel’s tail?) because it adds a nice warmth as a contrast to the cooler toned floor. But that can also be done with furniture so go with your heart!❤❤
Epoxy is supeeeerrr durable and is just about stain proof. I maintain and restore floors for a living and I RARELY get Epoxy maintainece jobs ...when I do they clean out very easily. Have a pro do the install tho, small mistakes can cause bonding issues, bubbles (like in the vid), etc.
I have a question. Is the floor slippery when wet? You did an amazing job. I am in the middle of remodeling a garage into a shop and something like that would really look good with the butcher block work benches. I live in South Mississippi so 85%+ humidity is almost year round. I guess I could put sand in with the clear coat but that would take away from the finish maybe. Any advise?
It would look gritty and uneven, that's why they sell specific floor finishes for garages that come with flakes and you sprinkle them on after (while it's still wet). Now you can do this exact to a garage but will need to put more coats of primer just to build up the thickness as well as give it a few layers of clear coat. This finish is extremely slippery when wet so either use sand/flakes to coat the floor slightly or buy rubber matts/garage rugs to help you out with not slipping. Any rocks and or dirt that you do bring in though can and will imprint the floor because it's not a completely hard surface. It's not like finished concrete where you can tint the concrete and stamp it as well. Ask the concrete guys if there is any product that suits your need the best, usually they have access to products that may not be available to us consumers or is more of a "special order" sort of thing. Epoxy is nice but its not forever and more so in garages
Love it! We've got 2 dogs, and that's my thoughts exactly. I'm going to get a washable area rug for some coziness, but the floors will be a lot easier to keep clean!
Definitely NOT dog friendly. If you have an elderly dog or a dog that moves fast, they have an extremely high liklihood of blowing out a tendon in their leg due to the lack of traction. Once a dog does that they'll never properly recover. Careful with slippery floors and dogs.
@@christinebuckingham8369 happened to my pit staffy mix and he never was the same. can't really do physical therapy on a dog so their gait is damaged forever
It turned out gorgeous! You did a wonderful job! I wonder if it would be better to sand the bubbles a bit prior to putting another clear coat on?? I think it definitely deserves a 2nd coat for sure! That's a VERY large area to work with. ESPECIALLY for your very first time!
I want to do my basement, but I want to go with a white floor with grey veining to make it look like marble or quartz with grey walls or grey floor with white walls.
For those saying it was a poor choice, I, a Calgary Flames fan, would direct your attention to the Edmonton Oilers decal on the wall as further proof and perhaps the basis of the said poor choice. Go Flames Go
After mixing epoxy with hardener put the mixture in a vacuum chamber to let out the bubbles that's the reason of imperfections Anyway you should've pant your floor white cause it absorbe less light which save electricity And don't listen to me but light pearl which could be a amazing option according to me
