In today's video I show you a major step. Finally the two concrete parts are connected and everything is straight and square to each other! It's so nice to be able to really assemble things and see the project grow. Its nearly one year now since I started that project.

The perspective that scraping is nothing to fear and you can just make everything fit perfectly is a great feeling, isn't it :)

Good job at getting it precise down under 5 microns, major accomplishment.

Good work and glad you feel confident with scraping now. It took me a long time to build my CNC machine (it is a long playlist on my channel if you are interested) because of all the small details and the overall design. But now I’m using it and couldn’t be happier with it. Hope you will get there soon as well.

I know it sounds like simple tasks, but plan ahead for way covers and places for lubricating oil to drain to. I learnt this the hard way when building my own machine. Didn't leave enough space for way covers so I ended up having to buy custom bellow covers. I also didn't put any grooves in the machine so oil just goes everywhere into coolant and stuff.

I had the same problem with my current DIY milling machine. Hadn't planned waycovers and so on. But for the new one I had them completely planned before I started building :)

Nicely done so far Alex... I have a lot of respect for young people such as yourself that tackle projects like this. While it's a lot easier to do something of this nature now days, it's still not EASY. It requires a lot of time, money, skill and a truck load of determination to pull it off. "Hat's off" to you and others like you on RU-vid. It's an inspiration for us "old guys" to just dive into something we've always wanted to do, but never thought we'd be able to do it.

Love your video! Always a lot of stuff to learn. I got one question: Why the copper rod on the side of the rails? Thanks :)
@AlexCNCen
@AlexCNCen 3 года назад
Its just welding wire and it is there to push the rails against the milled edge so they are straight.

the z axis bearings wont deflect under the load ? you compensated for the entire column, but what about the linear blocks's bearings.
@AlexCNCen
@AlexCNCen 3 года назад
I'm not worried about that. Those will deflect only some µm under multiple kN load.

How are the bed and column mating surfaces matched so that they mate perpendicularly? Did you take a reading off the linear rails that you mounted on each of the sections?

Hi~ Alex. Where can I find the proper fixing torque for each screw size? I've bought parts and can't assemble them. How do you know the tightening torque that can be properly tightened for each different screw size? You need to know this, I'll buy a torque wrench that fits.
@AlexCNCen
@AlexCNCen 3 года назад
The torque depends on the grade of the screw, how deep the thread is, size of the screw and what material. There are tables available where you can find out the torque. A quick google search will help.

@@AlexCNCen thanks you, What should I use for Google search words? I still can't find it

I do have some questions, Don't hand scraping changes the parallelism (and probably alignment too) of guide way base? And can't we use linear Rails as the straight edge, (assuming they are super fine grinded and square) ?
@AlexCNCen
@AlexCNCen 3 года назад
The surfaces for the linear rails where already out of alignment. I of course measured every important orientation and took care of it. The linear rails are far from straight if not mounted. But they don't need to be. It's only important, that they move parallel to the mounting surface.
