"The first full day was scrapped" No it wasn't. You were prototyping. You tried something out before fully committing and decided it didn't work.

This is awesome. One of my scrapped projects was trying to make architectural sculpture 40k walls by pressing broken push-fit models into green stuff. It... didn't work very well. Maybe I'll try again!

Probably one of the best builds you've ever done imo.

This would work with some Call of Cthulu adventures too! The figures in the wall look like they're ready to awaken from their curse and pound the stuffing out of foolish tomb looters.

The spray damage and the final color really looks like 'Bone' chunks! Imagine some grotesque fleshy place or perhaps a village built into the bones of an old giant...

I did this kind of terrain already for my history project in school I had a lot of fun not only making the terrain but also a one shot campaign that went with it ( I got a 100 on the project )

Finally, some terrain that's not typical "European/Medieval" fantasy.

I really appreciate that you show your failures. It helps make me not feel as badly when something I make doesn't turn out. And also a huge thank you once again for granting me permission to eyeball things and not be perfect. I never would have gotten into this without that because I would have gotten overwhelmed by making things with interiors or perfect 1" squares or whatever. I love how the pewter minis melted the styrofoam, I kept guessing the method until the heat gun came up. I think most of mine are painted up, maybe I'll grab some pewter minis and try this out.

LOL, Kismet, I pulled out pillar templates from Shifting Lands this weekend too. And yeah, I had to get used to them as well. Once 'adjusted' to using them. They worked really well.

I love that you spent the beginning of the video showing what didn't work, before moving on to what did work (and worked really well imo). Highlighting the entire creative process is much more rewarding than just providing a authoritative laundry list of steps; it's a creative hobby and part of that means trial-and-error.

Needed a mini with missing bits, or lines cut through them to match the wall stone.

Can I ask, what battle map you are using in this video? I noticed that it and the night themed one from a previous video seem to be similar and I was wondering where on earth you got them. Thank you!

Well there's something I didn't know I needed in my life. It's not a setting I've considered recently. It was so over used in media at a stage that I think I felt it was tacky to use for my TTRPGs but it may be time to reconsider. BTW I was listening to Distorted Memory for the first time in ages yesterday and it transported me back to a simpler time of pleather skirts and studded collars before I discovered what a drag adulting would be, was a very welcome escape. Thank you for all the different types of content that you have created over the years.

Love the painting process with this build and the final oil wash looked great! I recently got a set of pillar jigs from Gerard too, I’m gonna drill little pilot holes in each end of the jigs and put push pins in there to keep the foam more secure. The column jigs are gonna be a ton of fun to work with in future builds, can’t wait to see what you come up with too!

If you left some figures NOT glued in place, they could pop out an attack the party. :)

Little piece of not-so-useless trivia that anyone copying this idea; egyptian wall reliefs of 'living creatures' are literally always drawn with their faces turned to the side, this is because they believed the image of a person, god, animal, demon, etc was just as alive as the 'real thing'. by rendering the head sideways, they would magically be trapped in the wall. So if you put the minis in the walls like he did, you could easily make them removeable for a very visual trap encounter.

Hey been following for a while and I’ve picked up a lot of thing. Curious if you’d do a material painted tutorial. Like simple acrylic paints combos so make stone, sand, steel, etc. Just an idea. Keep up the great work!

I don't think anyone's piped in yet so I'll say that most of the figures embedded into the walls/used as statues are WarGods of Aegyptus figures from Crocodile Games. Great build!

Amazingly cool setup. I have some old pewter sets that have been collecting dust, and while not Egyptian in nature this is a great idea to embed them into chunky walls. Nice work!

Amazing... Have you tried the primers from army painter's GameMaster Line? They have a desert primer and it never melts the foam and it looks amazing.

Dude, I just made pyramids and literally did the exact same thing; glued on bricks 1x1 from posterboard foam. Cut like 800 of them.... Then a quarter way through, I switched to brick-gridded panels. Took me 30 mins to do 75% of the walls vs 3 days on and off of gluing bricks individually. And aesthetically, there's almost no difference. Awesome terrain though. Your stuff is always top notch.

Simply amazing !!! The partial melting of the foam due to PRIMER spray give the ageing effect of the real stones (small dots of erosion). The colors are matching perfectly sand. As always BRAVO.

Those look awesome. Ancient Egypt is endlessly fascinating, and desert storms still reveal sites thought lost to history. The great thing about Egyptian ruins, is that they DID build secret chambers, and they DID put unpleasant traps in their tombs, like 'bottomless' pits - the early Egyptologist Belzoni found one in an excavated tomb, early in his career, his strength and agility (he had been a circus strong man) saving him from an unpleasant death. Ancient Egypt has to be the most flexible RPG scenario of all. Then, of course, you have the short story that H.P. Lovecraft wrote for Harry Houdini: 'Imprisoned With The Pharaohs'. Definitely full of ideas, that one.

Ok, so I know it's not the point of the video, but WHAT are those metal Egyptian miniatures?? They are wicked cool....

Re: columns I've been sitting on it for a while, but my Warmachine/Hordes mini Subduer/Warden/Wrecker gave me some spare parts including a pair of wrench-like claws. I put them in each other, and it makes for an awesome steampunk/Grecco-Roman hybrid pillar. It's a bit on the short end though. More like a pedestal than a full pillar. (Like Indiana Jones, the pedestal trapped with the giant boulder.) If it interests you, I'd be super excited to send it your way to see what you'd do with it.

Unsolicited incredibly involved and complex follow-up project recommendation: Giant multi-layered pyramid dungeon! Or maybe a Valley of the Kings style modular dungeon set!

While I probably wouldn't replicate the push-a-model-in-technique myself because that's not really my style, I really do enjoy your project a lot. I really like the look of the walls, the pillars and how you textured and painted them up. Should I ever send my 2nd century Romans into Parthia, I will probably take inspiration from this project. Excellent tutorial! Did you mix the dark brown and burnt sienna colors into one wash or did you apply each wash separetly? I am contemplating in making a diorama with egyptian ruins myself.

Different mini's and a different paint job and they WOULD be perfect deep jungle scatter as well. Awesome work as always!

First time I'd heard of the bell, thanks. The texture looks great. Any plans to explore an oil wash dip? :) The minis look a bit incredibly smooth. I wonder if casting them in something intentionally rough like a home sculpey mold would be interesting to produce easily weathered versions to plaster the walls with? (a method I saw to make lizardman temple bas reliefs for WH). Maybe the minis themselves want a dusting of sandless grout to help their texture blend?
