DIY Morel Spawn Bed - One Year Followup (Did any mushrooms grow?)

The Urban farming guys in Chicago showed how many they spawned and WOW.. unbelievable

If you had spawned the kit indoors first then broken up the white mycelium up into several jars jars and allowed them to multiply then if you planted that into the ground and covered it with something with a light color so not to overheat then the mycelium would've taken hold. Once the mycelium is growing it's success rate is very high. The problem is by directly planting in developed spores into the ground other more aggressive fungi and molds over take the morels thus preventing them from ever starting. Think of it like throwing a tomato seed in the ground and leaving it to "luck" as opposed to starting a seedling with already established roots before planting where the plant is already growing and can fight off and bacteria or mold. Once it's established it's going to grow a network or mycelium roots and eventually fruit (mushroom). At that point all you would need to do is every spring and fall is amend the soil with some more freshly made up substrate to feed it for the following year and repeat that yearly. If you add the substrate around your 4' bed they will branch out around it and you can wind up with a field over time. If you stayed patient with it in 3 years you'll grow pounds per fruiting season and basically you'll only have to do minimal work to supplement it from there on in. So don't think it's not possible it's very possible if you get it off to the proper start. I've innoculated areas in the woods with downed trees that started growing what looks like a natural patch the only thing I didn't do was let ANYBODY know about it 🤫🤫🤫🤔😳😎😎

​@@alilbitclueless100it's very doable I'm growing them on the East Coast in areas that have very few natural stands of morals. As long as you find areas preferably with Elm, Popular or Aspen trees so the soil isn't acidic like cedar or pine does then you don't need to worry so much about playing with the soil PH like adding ash. Wood ash is more about adding the Phosphor then adjusting the soil PH which can easily be done with lime. Phosphor is one of the 3 main nutrients for any plant growth and most important for the flowering or fruiting which is what the mushroom body itself is. Sorry about writing an essay 😂 I'm not trolling or hating I'm gearing up to sell a better more extensive grow kit so people can plant in the spring and start their first harvest the following spring and then sell the organic nutrients for a yearly feeding afterwards. Morels sell for a lot of money to high end restaurants in NY city which is relatively close to my home.

Absolutely, I’d keep an eye out a little further into the trees where it’s a little more shady especially around decaying logs etc.

I did a couple spore kits a couple years ago, in an area that I had picked them before and NOTHING!! I suggest trying it the way The Urban Farming guys do it as you can see how easy it was in the city of Chicago.. pretty impressive

Yes friends, the Urban Farming guys video is a fake...truly nobody in this country is "growing" morels...do some research on the patented process for producing morels...check out the Danish morel project...you will see that it is a scientific approach and near impossible to have any real results with the backyard slurry/

Did you leave any behind? I think the scarcity is due to people picking / eating them all.

It can take a few years for results.

My fingers are still crossed. It was 2 full years ago when I did it, and nothing so far.

They usually fruit a year after the fire. I've heard of some people who had luck inoculating old fire pits
