This is A DIY video on how to make an auxiliary fuel tank to work on your motorcycle.
Very handy to have around and it can be made for less than $10 compared with the stuff out there for over $50
Like the video and subscribe also leave any comments or questions
Thank you -- Maustarman

It must be frustrating to have so many people comment on this video and not know the true purpose of this tool. Great video. Much more affordable than purchasing an auxiliary fuel tank. Parts List: -- Metal Water Bottle -- JB Weld -- Anderson Metals 57001-0404 Brass Hose Fitting, Adapter, 1/4" Barb x 1/4" NPT Male Pipe -- Anderson Metals 56122 Brass Pipe Fitting, Hex Nipple, 1/4" x 1/4" NPT Male Pipe -- Smith-Cooper International 8140 Series Brass Mini Ball Valve, Inline, Lever Handle, 1/4" NPT Female -- 1/4" or 5/16" fuel line -- Two 1/4" hose clamps

Great DIY video. I work on my own Harley and have been needing something like this for when I have the tanks off. Going to look for a used metal bottle now. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you. I just finished making mine. This will be very useful for my current and future bike projects. From some of the comments it appears some of the fellas don't understand how useful an auxiliary tank is. Thanks again.

I just built an 80cc 2 stroke bicycle for a bit of fun and also to take to Le Mans 24 hour race every year to get around the circuit but don't like the stock tank that came with it, you given me a great idea as only need around 1 pint of fuel per outing. Thanks :-)

Assemble the valve and the barb fitting to the coupler before fitting it to the tank and sealing it with JB Weld. This prevents stressing the coupler connection and the JB Weld seal at the tank, which is quite possible if you build the way it is shown in the vid.

Awesome! I gotta build one of these for all my machines! ATV's, dirt bikes and of course my favorite GSXR750. They always need carb work. I was looking at the Motion Pro setup but why spend $50 if I can spend $10. TYVM for posting!!

Great idea. The ONLY thing I would do different would be to tighten the on off valve really tight to the reducer and THEN epoxy it to the tank to prevent cracking the JB weld.

+Sky walker Because if it's work doing then do it the right way I went even further and welded a stainless coupling to the tank and added gas rated tubing to mine. Plus as he said its for synchronizing carbs and testing when you are working on them. Not sure if you listened or not.

This is a great idea if you have to do a lot of carb work. Simple and useful. Nice video. Though the title is misleading. "Auxiliary" implies that it's to be used in conjunction with the main tank, which isn't the case here at all. It might be clearer to the trolls if you called it a "shop/carb tuning fuel tank". Thanks for the great idea though!
@mynamesrob
@mynamesrob 8 лет назад
+aseredy You would think the title is misleading but Motion Pro calls their product the same thing. You and I think of 'auxiliary tank' to mean the same thing!

Couldn't you use a 1-gallon thinner can?
@Jayj93pgt
@Jayj93pgt 9 лет назад
what would the benefit of this be as opposed to just using the bottle to store the fuel and pouring it in the tank when you are out of gas? Don't get me wrong, the idea is great as an example of how simple it can be to make your own gas tank for all sorts of purposes. Overall though, great job on explaining and it is a cool diy project
@maustarman

If what I was trying to do was to have a extra tank to carry around you would be correct ...BUT that is not the intention here not at all .. This is used to be able to work on your bike, carburetor etc and you need to start the bike but need the tank off to make adjustments. Anyone who works on his bike knows how much one of this can be just a great little device to have :) *** This is NOT a fuel carrying container***
@maustarman
@maustarman 8 лет назад
This is NOT a spare fuel container... This could be a called a tool for those who work in their own bikes... Specially for carb work.. In no way is meant to be carried around. Hope that makes sense

What are the requirement of gas bottle tank
@TheStrosso
@TheStrosso 9 лет назад
I have some dobts. The gas won't dissolve the plastic cap from the bottle? The gas won't dissolve the plastic inside the bottle?. Because that kind of bottles have some plastic film inside to be chemically inert to water based substances. And very often, the plastic is dissolved with solvents such as gasoline. And, is the gas filtering missing?
@maustarman
@maustarman 9 лет назад
Your observations might be correct. What know for sure is that I've have this for 2.5 years now and everything still the way it was the day I put it together. Remember you aren't using this every day or storing fuel for long periods of time. You use it if you have a job to get done, you finish, you empty it up and up till next time. Unless you are a mechanic that deals with carbs every day and at that point you would provably have a pro set up. I customize bikes and only use it 3- 4 times at year :)

I've been using this for over 2 years in multiple bike projects...so far not a single leak or problem at all.

Jb weld is not so good , i used it on a tank, dried and cleaned, on a very very small hole , millimetric , only took one week before petrol started eating the jb weld and making it elastic like rubber :/. Tried 4 times, , tried sanding it harder , not a chance
@TicoDesigns1
@TicoDesigns1 8 лет назад
That might be entirely possible but in my case since I use this tank to perform repairs etc that only have gas for a couple of hours at a time I have had no problems in more than 4 years of use. Also there are different types of JB weld out there ....

catalynoo Exaktly my experience with a leak repair kit. However in regard to the purpose of kreating a vessel to use while working on the karb while stokk tank is off, this totally fits the bill.

TicoDesigns1 ok thank you. I have a pocket bike with no gas tank. Does the bottle need to be above the engine. Or can it be below
@TicoDesigns1
@TicoDesigns1 7 лет назад
harry goldbeck It depends if the engine's carburador takes fuel by gravity it needs to be above the engine...if the bike has a fuel pump it doesn't matter where the bottle is.

Louie Watson once again! This is NOT to go out riding This is for motorcycle repairs where you need to work on your bike and do adjustments while running and you can’t or it would be a lot easier to do it without the fuel tank. ie: carb adjustments etc If never don’t it never would understand

Oh how about you just keep the bottle and pour it in your tank when you run out. Why does everyone feel the need to over complicate everything.
@maustarman
@maustarman 8 лет назад
I guess you don't do work on your bike otherwise you would understand what this is for....its not to use as a spare fuel container... It is to be use while doing work on your bike....the kind of work that requires you to take the fuel tank off and do the work and start the bike to test and do more adjustments if required all of it without having to take the tank off and mounting it back many times and perhaps even dent the tank while doing that. It's just a awesome tool to have to save you time and inconvenience...
@maustarman
@maustarman 8 лет назад
+Luke Brown There is always one like you out there..... If this is not something useful to you just move on. Every mechanic shop has an auxiliary tank to do work in the bikes.... That concept is difficult to grasp when ppl only knows to turn on the ignition and go ...but for people who work in their own bikes it's an easy thing to understand.

Hahaha. 1st off, you couldn't build this Tank if I drilled the holes, gave you all the Parts and sketched a Diagram that a 4 yr old could follow. That is why your still pushing Carts Part-time at ACME and can't afford 1/4 tubing with your Paycheck.... U lazy SOB !
