Old vid, but still very relevant. This is honestly the most simple DIY vice build on the YT that I've seen. Great vid, to the point without extra blah blah for the algorithm. Thanks for sharing, new sub.
Me too. Best moxon ever it's also the easiest to make and the cheapest...and on top of all transportable? i was about to make another version attached to my table like an idiot. Suscribed.
Fantasticly simple. I've been thinking about making one of these for a while, but don't want to buy a 'kit'. I also like how it attaches to the bench 👍
This is perfect. Was looking for something like this that doesn't use the totally over priced moxon bolt kits. I like how the knobs are fixed and the rods moving in and out of the nuts held in the fixed face so you don't have long rods sticking out the front like on most moxons. Sound is a bit low.
I like this idea for a budget version of this because of the smaller hardware up-front and the way the hardware entirely recedes when you have it screwed in. This could actually give me a small DIY face-vise on a bench i built.
I know this is a bit of a budget, "rough" build, but instead of CA glue with an accelerator, try pressing some sawdust or sanding dust into the gaps around the bolt head and the nut after setting them in place, THEN hit it with the CA glue. For the bolt head, you can even sink it into the wood slightly deeper, and cover completely with the sawdust/CA combo. Then just sand flat.
Your simple, inexpensive hardware is a great idea. I'll be making the jaws of mine a lot bigger to allow larger handles and to better hold material horizontally.
I love it!! There's no need to make things complicated or to spend a fortune on moxon kits. This works just fine, I'm sure👍✌. Thanks for putting this out for us.
How long of a piece could you lay horizontal to say plane the edge of a 2x4, would it hit the clamps? It looks like smaller pieces of wood or vertical may work best, or am i wrong?
Yes, needed to make the vise taller so it could hold more over the clamps. Part of what i fixed when i did a second version attached to my portable workbench! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-60Qu54B9WGw.html
I like this build. I also don't want to spend $48 on a hardware kit. Also, you can stash this thing away when you don't need it since it's not built into your bench.
I thought the point of a moxon vice is for the vise to handle irregular shapes...and that in the moxon vises I have seen...the holes on the front part of the clamping face board should have oval holes to allow for irregular shape clamping performance. Other wise everything else seems on point.
Thanks! I was worried that the forces applied to the glued togeather boards in use as a clamp may overtime weaken the glue up, so I added a few screws in each side. Probably not necessary but it helps me sleep at night. :)
