Have you thought about putting a table (12-14 inches deep) using a piano hinge under the Murphy bed? It could be folded back against the wall art you mentioned when you use the bed. You could have a chair on wheels and move back and forth between that table and your kitchen area very easily. Murphy bed installation looks good by the way!

also you could attach the bed legs on hinges to the bottom of murphy base leaving you floor clear 🤔

Id use a piano hinge to attach the table to the bottom side of the bed and then either a chain for support or support post coming from the bottom of the bed to the bottom of the table. That would keep the floor clear.

Great job,Natl. there was a young man, about 2-3 years ago, who built a Murphy bed in his ford van. It was brilliant! when he lifted it up, there was his closet. Awesome! Hope you have the same fortune!

Hinged legs could be added to the underside of the bed, giving you back your open floor space. Also, the piano hinge table is a great idea. Having fun following along.

Lagun table arm and apparatus is all the rage right now in RVs...move around and functional with smaller table top area. For the table top you have, I would consider hinging it off of the bottom of the murphy bed, then have flip down support legs. Fun stuff to fiddle with and try out.

Hi Nate can I make a suggestion, I would attach the bed legs on hinges to the bottom of the bed so the floor stays clear and when you fold down the bed the legs will fold out automatically, you could also attach your bench to the bottom of bed base on hinges which could also fold out 🤔

I think as time goes on your going to need more support latching that murphy securely to the wall with all its weight shifting while you drive. I'd think about adding one more latch behind your driver seat so your secured on both sides of the bed platform. If you ever have to nail the brakes at 65 mph or so you'll be happy you did so. Great ideas so far. Good luck!

We made your bed! Two middle aged women. Needed a single bed for a tiny cabin. Your video was the most straightforward. Only difference was we made boxes for supports when the bed is down so they could double as storage. I have slept on it and it was very sturdy, comfy and easy to put up and down! THANK YOU for sharing such a easy to make, great idea!

Rain the past month in San Diego, and two winter's ago has been actually worse than anything I've seen in 40 years in NYC or Florida. Part of the problem is it ruins the ocean for 4 days every time it rains in california. essentially the whole winter has been ruined. It actually hailed alot two days ago, in gaslamp San Diego

I thought you were going to use the outer bed support as a bench for your table. If you attached the table top to the bottom of the bed you could just fold it down when you needed it. No pole required. Put a removable cushion on the support. Viola! Like a picnic table. That’s a nice setup Nate. Excellent job!

You could have used a piano hinge for your table that folds up on your Murphy bed with folding legs for supports

One thing you may find as a problem, is the noise that the hook that holds the bed up makes as you drive. But if it has enough pressure keeping it pushed to one side it may not rattle as much. Great job on the bed.

A couple of hinged legs, on the upper corners of the bed base/wall, would give you the support you need, without having a loose frame 'support' on the floor! I believe a lot of house-based Murphy beds use them! 😃

If you hinged the table from the bed you could adjust for the angle of the streets by hooking certain Link in support chain thus your table will be level and you can set a drink on it , food will not leak off your plate. You can make that table not as wide but longer allowing same amount of area but space off to your left and right with the chair facing the bed stowed. Another thing to do is to get a hammock recliner hanging from the roof. You have a good strong roof . Hanging recliner levels itself is the solution to street angle.

I know you do your research but I have seen a lot of other van folks caution against having a mattress on a solid piece of wood for lack of ventilation and condensation issues leading to mold growth. Many have remedied that by just drilling small holes all over the sheet of wood. Hope you don't run into that problem :)

Yeag when i upgraded to a twin size memory foam mattress from a little 24 inch wide 3 inch thick "pad" i was so happy. I sleep so much better now

Great bed system. Do a hinged desk top that folds of the bottom? Your bed set up in the element was insane. You should name her "Ellie" in honor of your 1st love.

I was thinking that for the NV! I think I might need to get to know her a bit better though before deciding on a name. The problem with hinging the table to the bottom is that it will have to be quite short in order to not disrupt the bed folding process. I'm trying to go for the largest table I can. My laptop is pretty big and takes up a lot of space when I'm editing.

I build Teardrop Campers without the chuck Kitchen (Waste of space). I built my full size bed on a 3 piece elevated bed riser to have storage underneath. The door is on the back, so with 3 hinged panels under the tri-fold mattress, I can push the bed from the back door, towards the front to convert the bed into a sitting couch. That is what you should have done, so your bed goes into a couch towards the back of the Van, which would free up all the rest of the Van space. It's simple and efficient for both Day & Night use.

Hi Nate There is a thing called a porta leggs that was used in the past with the pole before the Lagun became popular. They can be found on eBay.The fold up really small. That way you can set up the table inside or out, and move it around. You can also take it outside easily! One of these came in my 2006 camper and they were also used in boats I also have a couple of different lengths and use one for a coffee table outside! Also let’s me take the table outside and cook😀

wow, that bed shows just how big/small the env 200 really is. It would be cool if you could flip the passenger seat around and use that for your office set up. it's a big space and nice chair that is wasted a little

The table can fold out from the murphy bed when in upright position. Just add a few hinges to a slab of wood, and then 2 little chains on either side to keep it held up from the front of the table to the top of murphy bed

You could also do a murphy desk on the backside of your bed. I've seen them and they are great for small spaces. Hope you don't have problems with the 2x6 at the rear that is standing on end. Hope you are sleeping better !!

You were wise choosing a murphy bed..When I had my studio apt. I had a murphy/table setup attached to the back of the bed (late 60's) and loved it..I also had a large painted pegboard with shelves hooked in..If we had internet back then I could have worked out of my apt..

I put a full size murphy bed in my cargo trailer. I used a piano hinge. The bed is a little heavy but it all works well.

First I've heard of it too in a van. My bed has a motor on it... Back seat converts into a bed. I can put it up or down... Since living in my camper van I just keep it down 100% of time even though takes up almost half of our space. I removed the middle seats so it's more spacious. It's crossed my mind numerous times to remove it and build a smaller bed because is just me and my dog and i always have at least some storage on part of bed and under it... But nah... I think i will leave it be. It's real leather and an expensive device and I'd regret it especially if I moved into a house again... Which I will be eventually. I don't need a table in here... I can sit on my bed extremely comfortably and I have my front seats as chairs and dog house / dashboard area is a mini table. I suppose Nate likes to seperate sleep from business moments or else wouldn't add a table. That makes good feng shui for most I suppose.

Great idea, i always had tge same thought about a Murphy style bed. I wanted to put shelves on the top and bottom of the bed that would also be used as a bed support when you fold out the bed. I like it Nate, keep up the adventure buddy👍😎

Have you thought about storing your table top in a bracket attached underneath the bed. It's off the floor and when the bed is up. It right there. Even attach the table with hinges to the bottom of the bed.

Love it. Just made one out of aluminium. Has three height settings. Converts to double bed size at the middle height. Acts as a large work bench at middle and upper height. I wanted to be able to continue to use the van for transporting motorbikes and bulky items. Mattress is full size single, double sided pillow top, inner sprung. (Decades of sleeping on the ground, self inflating or cheap foam, no more!)

Why don’t you mount the table on the bottom of the bed, with hinges, at the height you want. You would have to mount a drop leg to your table, too. You wouldn’t need the table post you bought. Just a suggestion. Not sure if it’s doable, but it would be easier, in my opinion, to open and close it. It would be a Murphy table. 😊
