today i'm replacing the starter on a Nissan Versa. The issue is that the Starter Solenoid is starting to fail. Sometimes it will work and other times it does nothing. tapping the starter with a stick or something will usually get it to start. So what is a starter Solenoid it is basically a relay. energizing the solenoid will close a pair of heavy contacts thus allowing the electric motor to spin.

Looking forward to doing it now. I'm so glad you pointed out the release tab on the coolant tank. I was about ready to break the whole thing with a pry bar to get it out. And it's so good to know what what is the minimal amount of bodily organs that must be removed, ya know, like I don't have to pull out the livers and kidneys. A tight hole nevertheless. You're a saint for putting this up.

Thanks for posting this video. I’ve got a 2012 Versa and my starter quit. Great help. Had it pulled out and put in in less than an hour

I assure you there's not one 1/2 bolt on a versa....14mm maybe?

13mm and 1/2” are so close they’re often interchangeable. I laughed when he said it 😂. He used either a 1/2” or 13mm. 14mm is too big it’s 9/16”.

Thank you, Mr. Jerry! Thanks to your video, I was able to uninstall my starter on 2007 Nissan Versa hatchback. The only difference is that I didn't jack up the vehicle, but used a combination of socket wrench and extension to get the bottom starter bolt. The extension goes under that 1.5 inch ish diameter pipe. It didn't mess with that pipe at all.

Hi.. How long did it take to change the starter approx? I'm thinking that's what I need done on my Nissan Tiida/Versa as every time now and then when I turn the key nothing happen but one click and by the 5th to 8th turn it just starts like nothing is wrong, does it sound like a starter motor issue?..

That didn't look too bad at all. I had a friend with a Toyota truck have me look at his starter. Couldn't find the starter ha, it was under the intake.

+STEVE ROB My BMW E46 had the worst starter removal, I'm glad I never had to do as it would have involved removing the intake to get to it

Thanks. Used this video to replace my old starter that had dead spots in it. Had trouble removing the oil pressure sensor relay, so I left it alone, but was still able to get it through. The key is is just work it through carefully. Don’t force it in.

BSK Garage. I did the starter replacement, but I still getting a clicking sound. What else could it be? The instructions are very good.

Clicking sounds leads me to believe it's the alternator not giving your battery sufficient charge for the next cold start

This may be a long shot since you uploaded this years ago but, I replaced my battery and ground wire and my car still isn't starting up and turning over, I'm not too sure what to check next? I considered the alternator but was told from the auto store it must be the starter if the car still holds its charge when it's jumped. Any idea on if they're right or what else it could be?

Thanks so much for this video. I was able to get my starter out so it could be tested at autozone. Only "problem" is that it passed the test. But when I turn key in ignition all I hear is a winding/grinding sound. Like something spinning really fast. Seemed like it would be the starter, but if not that, where should I look next? Battery tested ok too.

The starter is faulty don’t listen to the idiots at the parts store. The bendix drive isn’t engaging properly that’s why your getting the winding, grinding sound.

Anybody know if slow cranking is a cause of a bad starter? Battery is good btw.

I know it's an old comment, but someone else may have the same question. It could be faulty connection to the the battery. Loose terminal. Etc. Make sure there are no shorts or cuts in the wiring and make sure the terminals are secure to the battery posts snug.

Look under the hood and you can easily see if its the same as yours. I still agree though; no one on youtube seems to care about telling viewers the year and motor they're working on.
