Oil Cleansing is great at removing all your makeup and deep cleaning your skin. I listed specific oils that work with different skin types below. I usually do this once a week.
Castor oil is a great oil to begin with. Use more if you have oily skin, and less if you have dry skin. Then find an oil below to mix with it.
Castor oil bit.ly/1AeFfDB
I like using 2 parts olive oil and 1 part castor oil. You can also add a little vitamin E to your mixture. bit.ly/1wx4874

I use coconut oil every night. I also only use white washcloths- this way when I wash them I can see that they are clean. When my skin is feeling extra sensitive, I use microfiber cloths that I bought from the dollar store.

I blended .5 tbsp of castor oil with 1.5 tbsp of grape seed oil. I chose grape seed oil because I have some oils on my skin most of the time (never suffered from dryness). I have used this particular carrier oil before as a moisturizer, but never as a cleanser. I wanted to try this because no matter what type of face wash I use, oil free, oil-based, or with salicylic acid, my jawline is always erupted in these fairly painful, hard to conceal sores that I always thought was acne. The more I washed, the worse the sores got. So frustrating at the age of 25! I went out on a limb, and just rubbed the castor / grape seed oil blend all over my face and removed with a warm, damp microfiber towel. The results were amazing! The blemishes on my skin began to heal overnight! I'm convinced now that my skin was reacting to my facial cleansers. I don't think I suffer from acne, I think I actually have sensitive skin that needs oils to stay healthy. I was reacting to the chemicals and perfumes in the face wash, which additionally left my skin exposed to the dirt and grime of every day life. One day after trying this new cleansing routing and I already feel like I've cured adult acne.

instead of Castor oil i use grapeseedoil, because it is a natural astringent like Castor oil. I mix 2 parts grapeseedoil and 1 part sunflowerseedoil. During the rest of the week i use dr. bronners liquid castile soup in tea tree :) great and really informative Video :) kisses from Germany - kat

Honestly i love the oil cleansing method. i bought organic "Pomegranate seed oil" "Avocado oil" "Hazelnut oil" and " Rosehip seed oil". i love them all!! the seed oil ones smell a bit strange to me but i got used to the smell and love them now! they all smell very herbal and the Avocado one smells really strong! i use the Rosehip seed oil one the most because it gives a different effect on my skin. people think putting oil on their skins makes more oil. believe me it doesn't!!! i have oily skin and somehow i find this method to leave it moisturizing and not oily. if you have time watch this youtuber named "Cloudlyapples" she's amazing with natural products!! and showed me the oil cleansing method. PS: try and buy cold pressed oils!!! they are pure form and not refined!!! so all the nutrients stay compact.

Hi! I use as cleanser: 2/3 castor oil + 1/3 jojoba oil + 3 drops of tea tree essential oil. I make a bunch and use a pumper. For moisturizer I use: 1/3 argan oil, 1/3 jojoba oil + 1/3 carrot oil + 3 drops of incense essential oil. I also mix a bunch and use a pumper! I have heard that olive oil is very comedogenic and you should not be using it on your skin. Oh! forgot to mention, my skin is super sensitive and reactive, combination. Im 34 years old

I've been oil cleansing for a long time, 2-part olive oil and 1-part castor oil work best for me, but I always tone with an organic witch hazel with rose hips oil or a rosewater blend. I oil cleanse at night with a hot washcloth after massaging the oil mixture on. I am super gentle on my skin, which is very important. I have found the Acure Organics Day, Night, and Eye Cream to work best for my skin. In the mornings, I love rosewater to refresh my skin. I used to have combination skin, but ever since I've been oil cleansing, I now have normal skin.

Hi, bayareamom! I actually oil cleanse everyday, mainly at night, but since it's winter, it's so beneficial to do it in the mornings. This routine has worked for me as well as my teenage daughter. The goal was to minimize the need of daily makeup, so the key has been skincare for me. This also goes into proper nutrition, sleep, etc. Hope this helps :)

For over a a year now I used to use almond oil to take off my eye makeup and I absolutely loved it. I do not have dark circles and the fine lines under my eyes are not as visible. Its better than any other makeup remover that I have used before. For over a month now I use it all over my face as a cleanser and wipe it of with warm towel!

Tried the castor oil and olive oil mix to wash my face recently, and loooved it! Works just as good, if not better, than any cleanser I've used, and it doesn't dry out my face like most cleansers do. Thanks for the tip!

The oils I've been using is olive oil, sweet almond, + coconut oil. My routine is oil cleanse Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday I use my face brush w/ authentic liquid black soap then Thursday - Saturday Oil cleanse + Sunday do the same thing I did on Wednesday and my skin is AMAZING! So soft + up until yesterday my face was clear. I have small bumps here and there but I think it could either be my skin adjusting or it could be from the coconut oil so I have plans on switching out coconut for rose hip. Everything I've been using on my face is 100% all natural + I drink A LOT of water + eat fairly well so that could play a huge part in my results as well but this has been a life saver for my extremely sensitive combination skin that's prone to hormonal breakouts.

I also do a exfoliant using equal parts coconut oil and baking soda 2 to 3 times a week as well as my regular oils. I use vitamin c oil for my fine lines and acne scars after my cleansing as a serum. keep up with the videos! I love that you're into natural regimens! much love from Tennessee!! ❤

I use 2 parts coconut oil to 1 part olive oil. I also add in lavender, maleluca(tea tree oil), peppermint essential oils. This is all I use on a daily basis. And if I want extra moisture I use just coconut oil. This has actually made my usually very oily skin go normal.

I oil cleanse and use grapeseed oil with only about 1/16 castor oil. I use a 2oz pump bottle and add essential oils to it as well. This works for me, and oil cleansing is so personal so, through trial and error (and probably some breakouts) find what works for you! If you have an oil concoction that works for you, don't change it for sake of experimenting! If you must, do so subtly and one oil at a time so if you break out, you know what it is that is causing it. I also love to oil cleanse first to remove makeup and wipe off, then again. Adding this extra step stopped the blackheads that slowly started to form when I cleansed only once with makeup rubbed around my face. Just like we would double cleanse "normally" at night when wearing makeup, you should also double oil cleanse.

I had never heard of oil cleansing till I stumbled onto this video through Pintrest. But, I recently purchased OLEHENRIKSEN pure truth melting cleanser at Sephora while I was looking for a new cleanser. The salesgirl warned me that it would be very different then a typical foaming wash in that you apply it to dry skin and wash off with warm water. It's also effective at make up removal, including eyes. It took a few days but now I'm hooked. I'm 47 with normal to dry skin, really dry right now in winter, even here on the California coast. It's full of oils, about 7 different ones : sweet alond, olive, lemon peel, linseed, sweet cherry seed, bitter cherry and rosa canina oil, as well as glycerin which makes it gelee like. My skin feels hydrated but I also use their moisturizer with sunscreen which is my go-to. I'm wondering if I just can't substitute this oil cleaning method daily as a cheaper alternative? Now that I'm more familiar with oil cleaning I'm definitely going to share this with others. I'm especially interested in having my teen girls try the castor oil combo. Thanks for all the super informative information!

i generally oil cleanse every other night using a mix of castor and jojoba oils. i just mix them in my hand rather than using a separate container... no particular reason, but it's nice to be able to mix up the ratios each day depending how i feel. i generally use more castor oil, because i like the thickness and smell of it, but having somewhat oily skin this has worked really well for me. my skin is much less oily now than it was prior to using this method, and it always feels amazingly soft right after cleansing. i still like to moisturize afterwards with another oil. doesn't hurt to load up on the moisture at night. i bought a pack of 10 face cloths on amazon, which i use exclusively for oil cleansing. doing it every other day means it takes 20 days to go through all of the towels, so it's not really an issue. i had a sample of african botanics' marula oil, and added a few drops to my other oils, then used a few more drops to moisturize afterwards. i wish the sample had been bigger, because it was very luxurious and the marula oil smelled sooo good. i'm seriously considering splurging on a full size at some point (but may settle for a cheaper brand first).

I love that you've made this video. Figuring out which oils work for your skin can be confusing. At the moment I'm lucky enough to have gotten a free full size Julep Bare Face Cleansing Oil bottle that I love using. It has a combination of grapeseed, olive, rosehip, green coffee bean oils and lipid extract from malvaceae. I use it probably 2 times a week and love love love it! When its out I may come back to this vid and work on making my own from your list of suggestions. Im looking forward to trying out some Avacado oil in my regimen!

I use coconut oil alone. I use the of towel for steaming then use a skin brushh to massage and really get deep into the pores and then I'll rinse it of with warm water and the wash cloth. After that I use anti aging serums an then a moisturizer. My stress acne has gotten so much better and m skin is so soft. I am a man and I really enjoy doing this.

I'm 50, and have incredibly dry skin, typical for Coloradans. I used the OCM every night for about a year, then noticed my mix had molded or mildewed or something nasty. I was vigilant in keeping my container clean, so I think I just mixed too much at a time. Anyway, I got freaked out and quit. I did fine up until about a month ago, but it's so cold and dry, I'm going to start again, only use a smaller container. I did it every night, and just used washcloths. You can get a dozen washcloths for five bucks, it's no big deal. You won't need this because you're a lot younger, but I followed with my entire routine, serums, oils, nightcreams, whatever. I can't overmoisturize my skin, it's not possible. I HIGHLY recommend the OCM for anyone with dry skin.~Carla

I do this to my whole body. It is the best especially for body acne which can be frustrating. I used don’t use soap at all unless washing hands. This actually cleans everything like armpits etc. the oil definitely loosened up the build of oil in your skin bc I have cleans pores and no black heads. This is the only thing that clears my scalp not even shampoo gets a thorough clean. I sometimes use a really slick natural lotion like shea moisture in the shower and I usually don’t have to lotion after. I has enough slick as soap to lift dirt and wash it away. That’s all soap really does really. But for the oil I added castor oil 2 oz, coconut oil 2oz, .5oz avocado, jojoba, and almond oil. I also added 1oz rose petal witch hazel. It is so clarifying and moisturizing. I haven’t used shampoo and soap going on three months and my skin is amazing despite my skin conditions. Clear face and everyone always says I’m glowing. I’m never going back to drying soap as I have extremely dry and sensitive skin this is all I need.

Natural charcoal jojoba soap bars are great for cleansing once a day. for blemishes moisturize with grapeseed oil. For primer try a dab of jojoba oil. I haven't tried it yet, but it creates a barrier between skin and makeup and keeps infection/blemishes on skin away. For makeup that is long wear I feel that it's best to soak half of cotton circular pads (the ones for toner) in oil of choice and hold it lightly on your skin for a bit and then gently wipe. on days I use extra makeup I use sensitive baby wipes with oil to cleanse and sometimes wash with gentle cleanser bc over wiping (gently too) causes me sensitivity. I'm trying rosehip oil bc it's the only natural oil with natural retinol...so far I'm not far along in using it to know if it works. Grapeseed really pumps my face better than hyaluronic acid Hope this load of info helps!

It makes my skin hydrated all day long. I use jojoba oil mixed with one-two drops of hemp seeds essential oil. This method is wayyy better than using those chemical face cleansers and moisturizer. You should give it a try. Note: Make sure you try light oils suitable for you skin type (do research a lot) and do this method with right directions. You will be amazed 😊

Would it be possible to mix coconut oil with castor? I use coconut oil already as a make up remover. Thanks!

I was taught when I first learned about this from a friend to take my makeup off with whatever(I use coconut oil) first, then take a hot wash cloth and steam your face to open the pores for a minute or so, then proceed with oil cleansing. I use 70% coconut oil, 20% castor, and 10% grape seed oil.

Have you tried or have an opinion on the drugstore products of the Simple brand or the Neutrogena Naturals brand? I have slowly been transitioning into a more natural regimen but would like to know your thoughts. Those are the 2 drugstore products I'm still using.

I do the ocm but have a kind of different skin regimen I have oily skin so I just use grape seed oil which I buy from wal mart (I can't find castor oil anywhere so I don't mix it), then I wash with hot and cold water and then with an organic cotton pad I use a witch hazel TONER (not the doctor witch hazel that has 14% alcohol) which I buy from Walgreen and finally with another pad I also use aloe Vera because it can also be used as a toner, and it also moisturizes my face a little. If I still feel really tight and dry (when my skin gets dry or irritated it creates a lot of oil) I dap a small a dot amount of oil on each of my cheeks, my forehead, my nose and my mouth area ( a little oil spreads well and grape seed oil is perfect for my skin type so I don't get clogged) Twice a week my regimen is a little different, I oil cleanse, then dry my face then I use the mint julep masque which I wash off after 8 minutes, I use witch hazel to get rid of the residue from the mask which will over dry my skin and thus do the opposite of what it is supposed to, then I apply aloe Vera and then dab a little bit of oil for moisture! After doing this I clearly see the redness from my pimples is gone and I wake up with smaller pores/pimples. I started the regimen recently though because just using oil did not work lol. In the morning I apply aloe Vera as a sun screen because my skin is sensitive to sunlight and breaks out/gets oily.

I know this might sound weird but how would you describe your face? A little bit oily or extremely oily? I have an extremely oily T Zone and large pores around the nose. I still get those bumps beneath the skin that hurt a lot but aren't visible. However I do not get a lot of pimples and if I do they are mostly concentrated on my forehead. So, I really want to switch to the ocm but I'm a little afraid that it'll cause me a huge breakout! Do you think I should do it?

I've been exploring how the balance between linoleic and oleic acid affects my skin. For instance, grapeseed oil does wonders, but olive oil not so much

This would actually be a nice alternative to cleansing oils, but what's nice about cleansing oils is that you only need to rinse with water and don't need to wipe your face with a damp towel. I think that's the only thing that I don't like about using natural oils. It's not really convenient if you want to do it every night! I would need a lot of towels! Also, I personally would still wash my face after the oil cleansing. I see oil cleansing as a makeup remover, not a makeup remover/face wash combo. I think it's important to take each step separately. The makeup remover to of course remove the makeup on the surface of your skin. And the face wash to clean deep in the skin, pores etc.

elepop That's why I only do this once a week, to save towels! I honestly I never feel like I need to wash my skin after oil cleansing because it really feels completely clean. But I can see how you would want to if you don't like the feeling of oil on your skin..I love it!

Hi Kendra, I'm a new subscriber and I have a few questions. I'm 50 and I was wondering if I could oil cleanse every day? Is there another oil besides Castor oil? I'm so embarrassed to tell you this, but castor oil makes my facial hair grow like crazy. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for sharing all that you do. Take care and God bless.

i'm a little conserned about using castor oil on my face (i do use it on my hair though) because it is known for growing hair (not only hair on our head but eyebrows and hair in general) so i'm worried that if i use it regularly i will have an issue in the future... maybe on the upper lip or sth.... opinions please...

I always use a face sponge to clean my face from oil or cleanser, why you all use towels? Face sponges can be disinfected once a week and changed once at month, it is better and more practical. Just a suggestion ;)

I agree with you 100% with using natural oils Gods gift to us to moisturize and cleanse our skin from makeup etc.. Your beautiful with perfect skin which obviously comes from using oils on your skin after being born from your father and mother whom first off helped in the process lol... God bless your beautiful family and you in Jesus name!

Kendra I just made a combination with 1 part castor to 2 parts sweet almond win a little vitamin e. It seems very very thick compared to the one love organics oil I was using. Is that okay? It's in a pump bottle so maybe it's just pulling up the heavier castor oil?

I've been doing OCM for about a week now with castor oil, grapeseed, and a few drops of tea tree. My problem is, my pores are still plugged up, it hasn't cleared up yet but it hasn't gotten worse either. How long does it normally take? If I wash with normal cleansers, my face gets dry so I was hesitant to use too much castor oil. However, now I'm thinking I may need to add more. Is this normal?
@kendraatkins
@kendraatkins 9 лет назад
Jocelyn Rock The castor oil makes it pretty thick, which is why I don't use that much. But it is goof for acne prone skin. Are you using a warm wash cloth after to get it all off?

Jojoba oil is great for sebum regulation, which makes it great for combo and oily skin. Also, Grape Seed Oil is great for all skin types, and helps with elasticity, and skin discolorations!

Hiya! Thanks for this-can I just clarify as I'm hoping to start this to 1) improve my skin 2) hopefully save some money- you use coconut oil only as a makeup remover and then cleanse with another natural cleanser then moisturise? Is this enough to start with and then I could try to mix with other oils? Debs (N.Ireland)
