Thanks for this video Paul. I’ve been thinking about switching to cam locks on my climbing sticks for a while now, But I have been concerned about the Amsteel slipping through. Do you find that it holds well? Can you please confirm what camlock you went with? Additionally, I don’t really understand why you doubled the Amsteel from 17 feet to 7 or whatever it was. Was that only to make a loop to hold the carbon rot? Thanks for any info
The amsteal is fully buried in itself. That makes it so it won’t collapse in the cam cleat. I went with a Schaffer cam cleat. The offset in the rope is to compensate for the outer laid the rope which will become shorter because it will spread out width wise when the other end gets buried inside. The inside or buried part doesn’t get shorter, but the outside rope does because it’s opened up to allow for the bury. Make sense?
@@paulcrave3112 Yes it does. Thanks. I’m still a tree stand guy, but this would make setting up the sticks much easier than the versa-strap system that I’m currently using. Thanks again.
You can get your amsteal from Luke Dautel. His site is “Real Deal Amsteal”. He’s a great resource if you have any questions. He’s the one who told me what length to start with and what the offset should be. He also makes them for people too. But you probably already have a ton of amsteal to work with.
