Start to finish of my home diy opening of a fireplace and wood burner installation. Chimney was lined and connected off camera. Enjoy and thanks for watching
No, just ordinary plastering sand and cement….. I’m no plasterer so it’s not perfect but my understanding is that on the face wall you can use any traditional material but in the fireplace cavity it’s wise to use lime mortar as it’s better with heat 👍🏻
Great job, I'm thinking of doing similar to mine but unsure if I want a log burner. Can I blank off the chimney and have it as a empty feature with the potential of adding a log burner at a later date??
Thank you,,, it really depends on the stove that you buy, mine was I think around £600… did most of the work myself so in total cost around £2000 with the lining kit ect . Been in around a year now and has saved a few hundred in gas bills so worth the cost 👍🏻
Hi mate, excellent job! Few questions: 1) What tiles did you use for the hearth? We'll looking for the same look 2) Did you opt for 316 or 904 liner? 3) What sealant did you apply?
Thanks mate,, The hearth is Indian sand stone , it can stain easily so a sealant is necessary. I used ‘HG tile impregnating protector ‘ which has worked well. I used a 904 liner as the stove is multi fuel… I only burn dried wood but thought it best just incase 👍🏻
@@-a-and-syou can get away with 316 liner if only burning occasional smokeless coal but burning coal and wood together Will create an acid that over time will corrode any liner. I always think best to burn seasoned hardwood mixed with a bit of softwood.
Hi mate, looking at prepping my own fire place and i have been advised 2 different things. I have a large beam of timber on mine inset into the brickwork about 100mm and running the full length... this in my head acting as a lintel so can't be removed just like that. But noticed yours is similar with lose bricks above and used no support. Do I hire strong boys/acro 2 builders/mates said it should hold itself if interlocking but mines like yours... maybe slightly wider. 1 mate/builder said to hire them Just wondering what your opinion is? Looking £100 saved if not needed which isn't major but if not needed it's wasted
Hi Mate thanks for your question. I can’t claim to be an expert and if your friend is a builder I would listen to his advice.., Are you putting a new lintel straight back in? If so you don’t need the acros. But again I’m not a builder and without seeing yours it’s hard to say. Sorry I can’t be more help 👍🏻
Cheers mate... yeh I'm going to go without, I have watched so many videos now and non use the support. Saw one person and after reading the comments it was for his own preference as DIY person. All will be installed within a few hours so nothing would be left. I was advised to pack with slate so compression doesn't happen. Thanks for your video too.. looks mint.@@-a-and-s
It’s just a sealer for un glazed and porous surfaces. You don’t have to do it but it helps keep the area clean from dust and stains. Mine has been in for almost a year now and is still clean so I would say it’s worth the effort 👍🏻
