Good work. A couple of tips use a rubber mallet bit easier on the slabs. Also when filling the joints use a dry mix of mortar then splash some water over it much easier clean up that way.
I'm embarking on laying a patio this weekend in a small front garden area. Been an avid viewer of your videos and it has given me the confidence to take on the task. I shall keep you posted how I get on
@@21stcenturycaveman33 it all went really well thankfully. Didn't quite get it finished in the end..I kind of cut myself into a corner and with the cement still being wet I couldn't finish up without standing on the slabs so fingers crossed I shall get it finished this week
Hiya buddy. Don't beat yourself up my friend. Sounds like you did a fine job. Sometimes it's just as important to know when to leave well enough alone and go back on another day to finish off so you don't spoil all that hard work. Impatience = mistakes! Would be great to hear how it all came together buddy. Des
Hi here. Just use a lump hammer or something to break up the old slabs (assuming that you're not going to re-use them). A hammer and cold chisel with a wide head will work well for smaller, one off jobs. However, absolute best way is to use a large SDS drill or similar with a spade end chisel (i.e. with a wide edge). Like I say though, small jobs - hammer and cold chisel and protection for eyes and hands. Best wishes, Des
Brilliant 👏, I need this video lol. But I'm not going to replaced any slabs, instead I'm going to be putting the motor back down where it has evaporated lol
Just thought I'd drop by and wish you well. Can't believe summer's nearly over now - could already see my breath misting up outside earlier this evening.... Hope you're able to make some more outdoor/DIY videos soon :)
Another great job with slabs there my friend, I see the the video for the second lot of fence panels you done a really good job there to. What is next on the agenda for you to do in the garden? Lee
Hi there Lee. Thanks for your continued support buddy. Firstly, I need to clear up the mess in the garden and take all unusable/rotten timber to local recycling center. Secondly, not sure yet to be honest. I was thinking about rotavating the soil, weeding and putting top soil on and levelling out. Then either seed or turf. But also, want to make garden more appealing by having a decking or screened off area for table and chairs, etc. Just trying to get a few ideas together at the moment my friend. All will become clear (hopefully!). Have a good weekend mate, Des
Hi there and thank you. These bags were pre-mixed so I'm not sure what the exact ratios are to be honest. Either should work fine. The more cement (orless sand) the stronger the mix. Best wishes, Des
I do know that generally if laying on screed use a 5 to 1 mix id have said this reason is to allow for some durability and therefore 0revejt skab cracking hes using basically dot n dab method it works but some dont like to use to due to voids as not all the tile has an Anderson so can again lead to cracking or coming loose more easily most jobs ive done ive 7sed a screw mix flatten with timber and use a cement slurry on underside of slab .....then they'll be dien 4 a long time indeed
Mate, got some important advice for you while it's fresh in my mind (sorry comment not specific to this video). I just tried to find your channel on my tablet, and completely failed. I looked for 21st century caveman, then 21stcenturycaveman, even tried filtering results to just channels but still couldn't find you. In the end I had to go to one of your comments on my videos. Turns out your name starts with just 21 and not the letters lol (I'd never noticed). But even then I tested it and my tablet wanted to default to 21 century caveman with spaces --> still a fail. BTW I think it's not just the tablet but the laptop too. You must be losing a lot of potential viewers or return viewers who search for some variation of your name. So my advice: add the words 21st Century Caveman (with spaces) at the end of your video titles - or some of them at least. I reckon it should help your channel :) :) p.s. wow at the cost of the job in this vid. It's something I might eventually have to do with my patio, and this makes me feel a bit better...
Chris, I've taken your advice and slightly changed the name of my channel per your advice. Thanks very much. Very thoughtful. Will monitor feedback. Very much appreciated buddy, Des
Glad you thought it might be useful. When I said a lot of viewers, it's relative of course - I've seen from my own Analytics that it's only a small fraction of people who reach me by searching for 'Chris PT'. Still hopefully it can only be a benefit. Happy to help :)
