Could you do a video about how you manage the wiring, power supply, raspberry pi, and ESP8266 for your misc. indoor/outdoor installations? I'm struggling to figure out a clean setup and protect the electronics from weather.
Would anyone be willing to come install my lights. I'm in central Florida, and the only reason I ask is because I'm a disabled veteran with ALS. I have everything, but permatrack. Thank you for reading!
Awesome... I laught when you say 2 hours... hahahah you may do it in 2 hours with 10 Mexicans. No racist comment, I have really good Mexicans friends and they work fricking hard. I never see someone working that hard like them. My respect about your install. Look really hard but the results are just amazing. Thanks for share.
@@DrZzs I seriously yelped at that point. I've fallen off of a ladder twice in my life, once I got lucky, the other time took me 6 months to rehab and be able to walk without a limp. I had tons of anxiety watching this, but I see you mentioned a boom lift which sounds amazing. I may have to try that or just hire this out. Even paying someone it'd be cheaper than most alternatives, and it'd be worth supporting a fellow maker. Glad you're safe
Miraculously people still pay stupid amounts to build houses that both all look the same and are that close together with no yards. It's so odd to me but it's def nice to have a nice, new house.
Wow, I've always fantasized about people being fined for leaving lights up until February but I've not heard of a city actually doing it. What city is this?
Too bad Rgb-man is always out of stock and never responds to emails or has updated the news section since this last October. This appears to be a failing business with poor customer service
I may have to get this. #$%$ jchannel and PVC.. Really need connectors for each section, ya kind of sucks to use that many connectors but for a repair mid season, it' just seems like a must.
Can I be lucky enough to live close enough to you to be the 2nd one to experience installation of PermaTrack? I live in Utah😉 I recently purchased a new house and have been looking into about every option of permanent lighting. My house doesn't look half has technical as the one in the video but still haven't convinced myself into a DIY installation. Your product looks like great option to consider when it comes back in stock.
The 12v power supply is wired to the far end of the LED string. The dig uno is located at the opposite end (this isn't the usual way to wire it, but it worked best for Jaron's setup to do it this way). The +/- wires for the LEDs are carrying 12v (because we connected them to the power supply), so at the diguno we connected those same +/- wires to the input side of the diguno. Then all we had do to is connect the data wire to the Data connector on the dig uno. I hope that has made it any more clear.
Great Video, how did you get from lower level to upper level? Also with the pixel spacing being fixed, how did you get around the blocking under soffit without having exposed pixel lights?
How are you powering the Dig-Uno at the other end? Are you running a separate power cable in the permatrack, or are you using power via the LED strips that's being sent from the other side?
You should talk about when to put lights up , we get snow here in Montana in October GET THEM UP now!!😏 Before your wheather gets nuts and you cant at all🤷🏼♀️
I have a question, when you put the controller(s)... Where do you put them? I am asking because in my case I tried putting the controller (DigQuad) insude my garage but my data wire is too long and I think I will have to put it outside instead? Can I do that, if so, how? Do you use a certain type of case weather resistant? Something small and discrete so you can attach it to the soffit type thing? Would you have any advice for me?
I love this BUT I don't want to see the "bumps" on my facade during the day. Is there an outward facing channel that hides the LED's inside? My home is the most expensive thing we own (most of us) and I would want it to blend better. Still cool though.....
Check out EverLights. myeverlights.com/ Their lights are pretty cost-effective ($8/ft) and almost impossible to see during the day. They typically mount in your existing gutter, but you can ask for channel. I think they're the only big permanent lighting company that sells to DIYers.
Dr. Zzshave you ever had your white pixels show an orangey amber color. But yet it’s supposed to be all white. Some reason mine show this bazaar color and yet some or white but not all just wondering if you’ve ever seen or heard of that thank you
Update - Hey guys just wanted to provide an update on the lights...the house burned down due to the cheap lights that we installed onto the house and well the next DIY is a complete rebuild of the house.
As the son of a roofing installer, who got to be a volunen-told helper on many occasions, I can tell you that you want to get on the roof as early in the day as possible. I recommend starting with the higher locations on a house like this.
What type of screws are you using? The 2nd cord is to power lights but the controller will be at the opposite end? Why didn't you run the wled from the same location? I wish you'd shown how you ran the data wire. Did you have to fish it through the channels, run it along the outside of the channel or take the channels off enough to insert the data wire? What did you do with the wires when going from one location with lights, then over an area/space that's unlit, to the next area/space with lights (like jumping from one gabled window to the next)? Are they left exposed, tucked out of sight or in a wire channel? Also would it have been possible to run the data wire in the channel at the same time you were using the light strings?
Should have ordered your pixels to the length of each track so they can be removed for repairs. You would have had a connector at each end. Now you are going to have a bitch of a time to replace those that burn out over time. You should have also went with squares to get a more shallow channel.
The only problem is is I have the worst luck with LED lights you put them up and you get a holiday out of them so what are you do if they burn out you have to take all that down again?
Is there a "starter kit" you'd recommend to get my feet wet just learning to set this up? Like just a controller, power supply, single short strip? -Thank you
Try Adafruit for kits like this... www.adafruit.com/product/1461?gclid=Cj0KCQiAzZL-BRDnARIsAPCJs72gXf0l2mLnWsCMucgIi7sr3Ppc5fMuMnHaAEMxETr94KH4g9VthyoaAtUZEALw_wcBlength=1
"3030G corner channel diffuser" from google works great with "3 led module strip lights" from Ali each module (3 leds) is 60lm, 0.72 watt, the corner channel is 30mm x 30mm. install under the gutter (dont screw upwards into gutter!), or on the front facia, under the shingle line.
Help needed. First year using WS2811 12V RGB Pixels. I have 3,250 around my entire home. They have great power but I thought I could run them with the 2-SP105E Controller. I need advise on the correct controller so I can have different shows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just bought nine 16ft govee led strip. I'm new to the led community these strips added up to 216 Watts is it possible to connect all 9 strip together with one 350 Watts power supply or do I need more than one power supply? I have a 144ft of ceiling to run these led lights Thanks.
Question....should I get the 2811 with the XR twist connectors instead of the originals that clip? I also have a 2 story with power plus specifically for christmas lights, what is best way to get power to them and power injection and controller?
I made the mistake of mountting my Nodemcu in a waterprrof box with my power supply. It seems it is too far from my roter and cant be found. I will now need to find a solution for this.
I would avoid purchasing Permatrack or anything else he sells. I ordered 4 boxes and when I opened the boxes there were two different tones/textures of brown paint. They are different enough to where it’s obvious. I sent a message about the mistake but he is clearly not interested in correcting the problem. I asked how I can return them, but I didn’t get a response. I’m now running out of time to have Christmas lights up before it’s too cold.
When will perma track be available? It says ore-order and is sold out. I sent an email to the website before Halloween and never heard back? I was trying to purchase two units. Hopefully someone gets back to me.
Maybe in some future phase. It's hard enough to get this stuff made and delivered when all the pieces are the same. Throw in corners and a bunch of different angles and we'll need a warehouse to store it all. It's still a DIY solution.
@@DrZzs Maybe look for some kind of flexible tubing that matches the shape and colour? Maybe Amazon has something like this. Look for flexible ac ducting or something?
Look I know you and RGB man are trying to sell a product. But where can I find those hat channels and the clips and drill the holes myself? 150 dollars every 50 ft is a lot of money
Hey DrZZs can I use 2 separate 10Amp power supplies at each end of my run? Or do I need to have a common negative or anything like that??? Thanks for all your work!
I got my J-channel and drilled and installed, I just tried to push my pixels through my holes and with bare fingers plus this 20° temperature up in Suncrest/Draper, UT made it dang near impossible. I guess I'll be ordering some pixel pushers and getting these permanent lights up after Christmas. Love your videos!
You just need to tinker with the settings of your software/controller until you get it. Warm white is a very difficult color to produce with pixels..as is brown, for instance.
Great idea! Just got to convince the wife that its actually cool and not "husband" cool. We have can lights in the ceiling of our front porch and she rolled her eyes at the Hue light bulbs I put in there, so we'll see!
If you want to expand a little farther north in UT let me know and maybe we can work out a deal. I am in Mantua, people would go crazy for this and it is winter up her for like an extra two months.
Ok .That looks pretty good , So i went to check the website and decide to use the permatrack but i do have a question regarding the RGB. Strings but how do i know wich one i need and how many will i need , so many options . any advice??
Could you use a cheaper controller that you could control from your phone? To get started I would like to do something simple and just control it with a phone app
DrZzs, are those the sketchers slip ons? Do you find that the Sketchers lip on's are really hard to do yard work in? I find they get slippery like when wearing them with smooth socks. Also LOVE your stuff!
I'm so torn. I've been wanting to do strips or pixels on my house for a long time, but I'm too indecisive to pick which style, density, voltage, IP rating, mounting type... Ugh
