Small correction for anyone trying to use the Eufy lights with WLED: In LED preferences they need to be color order BRG with W and G swapped, I said W and B in the video. Thanks for the update! When you show "Home Assistant: No" for the Eufy lights, does that just mean direct integrations from HA to Eufy, or does that include the WLED integration in HA? I would assume any lights that are WLED compatible would be HA compatible, but wanted to check before purchasing the Eufy ones!

Even with the 10 LED/m variant, if you have a 20m segment, would that be a middle and end injection or just middle? Thanks a ton for this video! I've been seeing a lot of Govee reviews lately, and I was considering them... but after your review, I'm leaning toward YPS. It just seems like a lot easier to get a "clean" install with those, and I'd really not have to climb up on a ladder in the dark to try adjusting individual bulbs. That, along with the higher density allowing for more flexibility, I'm really leaning that direction. Only downside is the Govee would be ready to go for the wife to start playing with, but YPS is gonna put a lot on my plate to get to the same place ;)
@TheHookUp

YPS is definitely better if you feel comfortable, or feel like you might want to do more hobby type stuff down the road. If you just want lights, and you don't want to expand later then Govee is the way to go. Eufy is a nice middle ground.

Phenomenal review. I picked up a set of the Govee Pro lights in white. The PSU on this does not say it is waterproof on the bottom or on the govee main site. I am not sure if you are US based or not. One thing I would incourage when doing reviews is to add feet/inches when mentioning sizes. Products here are always set to feet and inches, it one of the most annoying things about products coming from abroad like China/Govee. They do things in meters. But just a great and concise review. That light show rabbit hole is making me think twice about these pro govee lights. The eufy lights also had a feature which was unique. It could integrate into their camera's and security cams somehow. I know the govee pro have matter integration but that is still being hashed out to how well they play.

Excellent comparison video. I bought the GoVee permanent outdoor lights, non-pro version back in July and just got them installed over the last few weeks. I’m very happy with the way it looks. I had made a cardboard template to keep the light nodes 3 inches from the wall for installation without having to keep pulling out a tape measure or ruler. So that was a useful thing. If I were to do it again, I would probably bring the lights 4 inches out from the wall. I don’t see any advantage to the Govee pro other than the warm white lights and it’s not really something I would be using very often. Plus, I’d rather have the brightness and more lights than the Govee Pro array gives. I have thought about running a separate string, just for warm white, if such a thing exists, but I would only be using that for security, or perhaps non-holiday accent lighting, but I don’t know. It’s still not worth it to me to get the Govee pro at this time. I took my time spacing the light nodes over the center of large windows, and other features of the house, so that worked out fairly well, and I think the wired system as opposed to a track system provides more flexibility for this. The wires are not really visible at all from the front of my house unless you get right underneath the eaves. So that doesn’t concern me very much. I definitely recommend buying more clips though that’s essential I think.

Such a great video and super impressed with all of that effort. One question; Would you ever consider running COB led lights over these? Im not a huge fan of the scalloped look and I have been searching for a COB LED that would work based on your other video with COB lights.
@imdbtruth
@imdbtruth 7 месяцев назад
To do a house in COB addressable would be a much larger project, and much more expensive. Depending on the density of the COB strip, you'd quickly run into pixel limitations with many controllers, not to mention the much beefier power supplies that would be needed, and of course a ton of power injection... It's definitely doable, but it would take three times as long and cost three times as much, and be three times the hassle and expense when there's a failure. If you were looking for a similar effect, then I might suggest one of the milky silicone profiles that can be hung and can illuminate up to 360 degrees. Just my thoughts on it...

@@TheHookUp Eufy notes that you cannot cut to shorten, but I assume that is thrown out the window if you abandon their native controller and wire them to a WLED controller? I currently have strips similar to yours and am interested in adding the under soffit look as well, being able to add to WLED for xLights is key.
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 8 месяцев назад
You can definitely cut and shorten them. I think the reason they say that is that the final LED in each string has a capacitor in it. I assume that makes it easier to cross gaps with the extension cables, but it could also be used for some sort of software detection of how many strands are attached.

Just finished installing the Govee's a few days ago, and after seeing this I feel pretty good about my choice. The price point was awesome ( they were on sale for Prime Day 2 ) so factoring that in they are great for the money. Now I kind of want to mess with WLED though...

Wow thanks for this. Was trying to decide between Govee non pro or the YPS pixels. I think I’ll go Govee because I have some other of their products in my house and one app to control them all sounds good, but I love the idea of a WLED controller in the future. Any way to do a data repeater on the Govee? I’m going to have to jump about 10 feet from lower to upper level and hope to keep it working right.

I just installed the Oelo permanent lighting system a few days ago, and my neighbors thought I was crazy with the 45 foot man lift LOL. You installed 5 different systems! Your neighbors must think you’re absolutely insane. Great video. Oelo is a 36V system that comes in aluminum tracks, kind of like the YPS tracks you showed here. The Oelo is expensive, but it comes with everything you need and it’s 36V, which I really wanted because I had some extremely long runs and I didn’t want to deal with power injection. I looked at YPS, but I didn’t want to have to figure out my own power supply, controller, weatherproof box, etc. I paid about $2500 after taxes and shipping for 150 linear feet of the Oelo system in aluminum, which comes out to roughly 200 lights (I estimated a YPS system would have been in the high $1000s after I added all the other stuff I would need). And that Oelo price I paid is after a 25% discount, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have done it. Expensive, but like it said came with everything and all the components are very high quality. Except for the app - the app is pretty weak, but it does the job. Great customer service though, and I found out they’re working on a new controller/app that’s coming out in 2024.

My soffits look just like yours. I've been a little nervous screwing in to them, but I know the 3M won't last very long where I live (hot summers). What type and length screw did you use? I saw somewhere #8 3/4 inch? I also read self tapping? thank you and great video. I got 2 150FT Govee the other day and after watching your video it looks like I made a good choice.

Great comparison review once again. Love these vids. Question: If budget wasn’t an issue, are there higher end products out there? What would a pro use?

I saw in the video for the Eufy lights that you could not use the warm white light in combination with another color currently or individually adress the warm lights on or off. Do you know if Eufy plans to fix that in the application so i can set a candie cane (red/warm white) pattern ? Currently it looks like it only uses the white from RGB led and not the dedicated warm white. Or would i have to go with a WLED controller? Awesome video and i appreciate it.

I prefer the scalloped designs for festive lights, but prefer the YPS for a more year round usable light.

Hi I’m looking into adding permanent lights on my house this year. Have you ever used or heard of enbrighten eternity lights? I’d love to see your opinion on them. There isn’t much out there about them but they seem to have a lot of really nice features and a lifetime warranty.

The neatness and inconspicuous YPS would interest me the most but I’m put off by there not being an included power supply or controller. Is there off the shelf ones you would recommend?

Great review! I think Eufy's future doesn't look very promising if they continue with their fully closed ecosystem. Personally, after 5 years, I'm getting rid of their cameras and sensors. I got tired of waiting for a good integration with smart hubs.

I think it's interesting that they have responded to all the questions about integrations with "not yet", but I don't think they have plan s on doing it.

Homebridge works pretty good with the eufy cameras and much cheaper than competitors “hubs” that can only do one thing where homebridge can do much more

So, I'm thinking the standard Govee lights are what I'm leaning towards for my house. Question, if I need 10 or 12 more feet does Govee sell a single strand that I can just screw in? Also, if so will that extra string add onto the app like plug and play?

In all the installs that I've seen, the lights are mounted 3-6 inches from the house. I've got a gabled 2-3 foot overhang around my house. The flat surface is at the end of that overhang, so the lights would be mounted 2-3 feet from the house. Would that still create a good effect? Also, If I did mount them closer to the house they would be sloped like the overhang is. Would that affect the way the lights illuminated the house?

Thanks for posting this! Is there a total length where you think it would be best to DIY your own set? I’m new and the design of my house has quite a few smaller peaks I’d have to splice and run blank spots for.
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp 8 месяцев назад
I think it's just about the look. The DIY sets don't give the lensed/scalloped look. If you need to do a lot of jumps the Govee Pro kit is probably the way to go since it seems to be more tolerant of extensions.

@TheHookUp fantastic video! Thank you for showing the YPS 5 and 10 puck density. Which do you prefer? I am thinking of going with 10 and then I can always program it to appear like the 5 if I like that better. I also want to do an Xlights show in the future. Edit: I typed my comment before listening to the end!
