awesome video and way to do photobooth! really enjoyed the video and how you explain to do the setup! cant wait to set up my photo booth for my engagement party now!
Only one issue in the entire set up guys, the on off (power button) on the ipad pro 9.7 is blocked by the corner circle that holds the wide angle lens and the corner of the ipad in place, but a simple trimming of that plastic to expose the button solves the problem and doesn't seem to cause any concern for the ipad snapping in securely for me. Great system, just as you suggest, as well as being a real money saver too! you guys ROCK!, keep up the great work and DIY instructional videos.
Makayama Movie Mount ($99) Zeikos 37mm wide-angle lens ($20) Neewer Pro CN-160 LED ($31) SimpleBooth Event App ($20) Ravelli APLT4 Tripod ($23) I'm at $193 so far. Not too bad.
This would be an amazing app if it let you pair with an iphone like some of the other "remote" apps (like camera plus' airsnap feature). Most people have an iphone and an ipad, so you have all the equipment you need, but that would allow you to use the iphones higher quality back camera without loosing the "self serve" function and taking the screen away.
I've been thinking about investing in an inflatable photobooth and had never considered using my iPad! Please could you link me to the iPad mount and lenses? TAKE MY MONEY! Cant wait to test this out at a wedding this April! :D A greenscreen option would be a great addition :)
Hey Shona! Haha thanks for your feedback. Green screen would be cool. Here are all the links to places where you can buy items beside the app featured in the video. I bought the Makayama Movie Mount from their website: www.makayama.com/moviemount.html You can get the Neweer LED light and wide lens on Amazon for good prices. www.amazon.com/NEEWER%C2%AE-Dimmable-Digital-Camcorder-Panasonic/dp/B004TJ6JH6/ref=pd_cp_p_0 www.amazon.com/Zeikos-ZE-WA37B-0-45X-Angle-Black/dp/B004DJ8YGQ/ref=pd_sim_p_6 A Pro Master Ball Head and tripod you could find at your local camera shop or on Amazon as well. www.amazon.com/ProMaster-4869-Promaster-BH20-Ball/dp/B003AXIG0U/ref=sr_1_12?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1389804355&sr=1-12&keywords=promaster+ball+head
My recent comments were directed to using the suggested Makayama Movie Mount only, the other inexpensive option is use a Grifiti Nootle universal adapter/mount on eBay or Amazon for $14.00 to $20.00
Jay, by any chance do you know if there is anything other than the makayama mount for holding the ipad AND the light? the one you suggested doesn't seem to have a place to put a light on top. Thank you.
Hi Yesenia, there are several great options, I use a Mela Mount Video Stabilizer Pro Multimedia Rig Case for iPad Pro 9.7 that I bought from B&H Photo online $69.00 but worth every penny. I love that it works well for video production as well. Here's a link to their web page with the different options.and related products.www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1263684-REG/mela_mount_mm_ipadpro9_7_video_stabilizer_pro_multimedia.html
This set up is pretty perfect for what I am planning for my evening reception. Can you also tell me how I would then print them out in the strip and what you would recommend? Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the feedback, Jason. We plan to make an Android app but don't have a timetable yet. Feel free to keep tabs on our progress, the best way would be to follow us on Facebook facebook.com/liveboothapp
Hey thanks! Here is the movie mount: www.makayama.com/moviemount.html and there is a link to there lens there too (37mm by Zeikos, available on Amazon)
This is perfect, I have ordered all the equipment you show in your clip. My one question is can you "mirror" the ipad view to a monitor or smart tv so that guests can see themselves when using the back camera? My event is in two weeks so I appreciate any help as soon as possible, thank you so much! Julie
Hi Marc! I love your video! I followed all your directions to set up a photo booth for my son's superhero party! But, I messed up and ordered the wrong tripod!!! I ordered the Manfrotto compact tripod, which is more for compact cameras, but I need to use my ipad air. Would you recommended some sort of adaptor that will fit while the Makayama wide angle lens case is on the ipad...and light that you recommend in this video also. Thanks for your awesome video!
+EvaElisa Mireles Hi there! Here is the light we used in this video: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TJ6JH6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004TJ6JH6&linkCode=as2&tag=simpl0f5-20&linkId=ZQOTCHMRKI6GEP5J I'm not familiar with an adapter you can use, but Manfrotto may be able to recommend some that work with their tripod.
This seems like a really good alternative rather than the expensive booths out there. I have a few questions though. 1) Is this Apple/IOS only? 2) When it comes to green screen for backgrounds I suppose an actual booth would be required, correct? 3) Does this take videos as well as photos?
Matthew Farmer Hi Matthew! 1. Yes it is currently available only for iOS. 2. In our app when you see the option to customize the background, this refers to what you see in the margins around the photo, not the background in the actual photo. For the actual photo backdrop, you can use whatever physical backdrop you would like to use, but our app cannot change it. 3. Simple Booth can take photos and create animated GIFs. If you'd like you can follow us on Facebook for app news and updates: facebook.com/simpleboothapp
LiveBooth thanks for replying. I've believe that some photo booths have the capability of changing the background while looking directly at the screen or in your case it would be iPad. How would your software/method compete with that particular feature?
Matthew Farmer It's not a feature we offer at this time, but you can check out all the features on www.simplebooth.com and follow us on Facebook for app news and updates: facebook.com/simpleboothapp
Print question: I need a fast wireless printer that would be recommended to use with this software. Preferably a PHOTOBOOTH targeted printer, that can actually print and cut photos. Any recommendation??
I have been researching photo booths for my children's business. I like your concept and have a question. If I use the iPad on a tripod to take the pictures, can I then have the "social kiosk" be a Mac, instead of another iPad? This set up would be permanent in my place of business, and does not need the portability that some may need.
SimpleBooth Event Edition now has sharing options built-in so a separate sharing kiosk would be unnecessary unless you have a large volume of people going through the booth.
Thank you. Got everything ordered. Need a second iPad, but this software is so easy. Got Simple Booth and LiveBooth. I saw when you download there are a few in-app purchase options "Sharing Features" and "Saving Images Features" do I need either of these? I could not find where it explained what these add.
Hi Denise! Here are the in-app purchases available in SimpleBooth Event Edition: Advanced Design - add an overlay or background image to your photo layout Sharing Options - SimpleBooth already has all the sharing options available, this just lets you customize the Twitter hash tag, change email text, set a Facebook fan gate and decide which ones to turn on or off. By default they are all on even if you do not purchase the upgrade. Saving Options - SimpleBooth already saves photos automatically save to Camera Roll and you do not need this in-app purchase for that to happen! This upgrade lets you save to Dropbox or save individual photos.
Great Video! Thank you! Question about your iPad. What is the name/brand of the case that was holding the iPad and got attached to the tripod. Thanks again. :)
Hi there! Thank you so much. That is The Makayama Movie Mount: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JQKF1N6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00JQKF1N6&linkCode=as2&tag=simpl0f5-20&linkId=77C2WDVYNE4UNGZQ It works with most standard tripods.
+Kathleen Torres Simple Booth Event Edition is completely functional on its own, just some sharing options require internet such as Facebook and Twitter. For printing you can get a printer such as the Canon Selphy CP900 or 1200 that creates it's own Wi-Fi network to print to. As for email, guests could enter in their email and all of the emails will be saved as drafts in your Mail app under the Outbox folder. Once internet becomes available, the emails will send out.
Hello, I been researching the cheapest way to set up my own photo booth for my baby shower and came across yours. I've read all the comments and I can't wait to give the app a try. I'm downloading it now but only see Simple Booth and it's free. I did see you mention live booth and I did click on some links you listed on other comments about the different editions, but don't see it in the App Store. I have a questions about the printer/printing, on the page I ended up on for the product and information it lists Canon Selphy CP910 as the printer to use but I've seen you mention Zink as well. Would canon be way better for picture quality and time wise to print ?
+Dayna Mitchell Hi Dayna! So are you more interested in Simple Booth for the photo booth feel? We offer Event Edition which is perfect for DIY photo booths. itunes.apple.com/us/app/simplebooth-event-edition/id697826715?mt=8 The Canon Selphy CP910 is perfect for a DIY setup! We also have reviewed this on our Simple Booth channel: ru-vid.com Please note our printing features have changed and improved since then.
I see that the app is free (nice)!! I noticed that there was also an update on Nov 19,2013 which included the social media sharing. Does this eliminate the need for the second iPad as shown in your video?
Hi MsCococure, yes you can now share from SimpleBooth Event Edition and Pro Edition without a second iPad! For large events you will still most likely want a separate (or multiple) social sharing kiosk but for small gatherings or permanent installations one iPad should work quite nicely.
Guillermo Malvido Hi Guillermo! For consumer printers we recommend the Canon Selphy CP910 for 4x6 prints or the ZINK hAppy Printer if you want to print stickers. We have videos on these printers on our Simple Booth RU-vid channel.
Two more questions. Do you have a tutorial on how to use a remote to start the countdown instead of touching the iPad? Also I would like to use my own air enabled printer, any suggestions on the type of photo paper?
We do not have a tutorial, but SimpleBooth for iPad supports using a clicker that sends a volume plus signal to initiate the photo countdown instead of tapping the screen. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GCD2MDM/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00GCD2MDM&linkCode=as2&tag=simpl0f5-20&linkId=56QYERPLNGPD7KTB
Hi I have two questions, I apologize if these are repeats. First I'm looking to use an Ipad air 2, do you know if the Wallee Protective Cases will fit the Air 2?? I can't find a solid answer anywhere! Second question, what exactly are you using to mount your second ipad and what is that stand? Thank you for your time! We are in the process of creating our photo booth business and are very excited to use your software!!
Hi Chariese! It looks like they haven't yet made a Wallee Protective Case for the iPad Air 2 which is thinner than the iPad Air. Here is a link to our recommended gear page and the mount and stand used in the video can be found under Tether tools: www.simplebooth.com/gear
great video, it's awesome that there are 2 softwares! Love that, I believe this question was asked here but I can't find clear answer. What if I would like to use camera / DSLR to capture images, what would I have to do to transfer them to iPad? Would be nice if you can create that video as well ! thank you.
Hello there. This video will actually help demonstrate that for you: LiveBooth Wireless Photography Setup Using a DSLR with a Eye-Fi card on the same network, you can get the photos onto a device running Eye-Fi software which can put the photos into My Photo Stream or Dropbox folders which are both Photo Source options for LiveBooth.
I bought that light and I'm using your event edition. I feel like my face is super washed out in shots. Should I have the light far back? Seems like you have it close
+Joe Gowac or probably shoot the light up to the ceiling, if the ceiling is low an white. Most times people think the white lights should be facing right in the center of people foreheads but most of the time that's not the best scenario. See how photography lamp lights work for instance.
Awesome. But what I need to know is can you print onsite from the ipad to a printer so your guests can have a copy then and there? That is the finishing touch I need. To print at the event. Tell me please. Thank you,
What do you do when the battery dies? Is there any way to plug in the iPad to a wall socket? Also what happens if your guests want to print their photos? Is there a compatible printer for the iPad and the Simple Booth software?
Yes, depending on the length of your event you may need to plug the iPad in. You can see some of the printers Simple Booth recommends here: help.simplebooth.com/printing/printer-basics-and-setup/do-you-recommend-any-printers
Some AirPrint printers create an "ad hoc" network so that you can connect directly to the printer (it shows up as a Wi-Fi connection). I think that would be your best option!
One last thing, I am adding livebooth to offer sharing abilities for guests but there are two versions. One is 169.00 the other is .99 I am hoping I don't need the expensive one since I only plan to use this booth once. If the only benefit to using livebooth is social media sharing, I may skip it for 169.00. Do I need to add both livebooth and simple booth to both iPads?
Is there a way to get the saved photos to automatically upload to a facebook page so photos are posted for guests to see? Thanks. Excellent presentation!
Hi Maria! Unfortunately there's not a way automatically to upload all of the photos directly to one Facebook page. We typically recommend waiting until the event is over so that you can pick a few of your favorite pictures to post. This often has a better impact over sharing every single photo, anyway! If you do still want to upload each photo, you'll want to export them from where they are saved and onto your page.
Hi there, this looks sweet anyhu, so the question is do I need internet/wifi to operate the software and kiosk at different venues as there won't be any available or does it work through bluetooth as well as printing. Thanks
+Stu Kent Hi Stu! Simple Booth is completely functional on its own. Some sharing features may not be available without WiFi or Internet, however. In order for photos to sync to LiveBooth you do need WiFi and in some cases both WiFi and Internet. Printing will not work through Bluetooth. Printing is available through AirPrint or dye-sublimation printers can be used with a third-party print server application. Some AirPrint printers create their own WiFi network that can be used.
Hi Emily! Thanks for your message! If SimpleBooth is using the front facing camera the guest will be able to see themselves as each photo is being taken.
+Stonewallstank33 It's best to get a printer that creates it's own WiFi network in cases such as this. The Canon Selphy CP910 is a great example of this!
Hi, I just purchased the PRO edition of SimpleBooth... Works great Now I want to use it over 2 ipads for an event... on that takes the picture the other so the clients can share and print the image... I understand you have shown an example on youtube that requires LiveBooth... But it does not seem to be syncing live. I have to exit both apps on both ipad for photo stream to work and sync. as you can imagine, will get quite frustrating in an exhibition. The reason i purchased Simplebooth was the great sharing option and the great image overlay. but i can find anywhere where i can source an image to share. therefore i have wasted my money on simplebooth rather than just paying the full price for Livebooth? or am i missing something? Cheers
It's conceivable, we haven't tried it ourselves though. One problem would be the video would be reversed unless you have a monitor that can flip the image horizontally.
Just got the event edition on 4-3-15 and would like a custom logo. What's the optimal png size dimensions? Best this question be asked publicly so others can know the details.
Rob Perez Hi Rob! The optimal logo or graphic size depends on your layout settings. Under your layout preview it says the pixel size of your final layout in small gray font - you can the width or height of this as a guide for your logo size. When in doubt, make your logo a little bit bigger since it will be sized down and will look better than sizing up would. However, you should not make it excessively larger (not more than 1.5x the shown size) because graphics processing requires a lot of memory.
Okay, if I can't mirror the screen for guests to see themselves can I face the screen towards the guests, while utilizing the flash? Since I built a booth I need to have flash. Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it. Julie
All of the questions have replies. I'm not sure why you can't see them? You can always email us at our support email for direct answers, found on our support page under FAQ at www.simpleboothapp.com
This app seems really cool, before I buy I have a question. Is there an option not to save Photos to Camera roll but rather share or print the photo and delete straight after the session. Not all guests would like their embarrassing photos saved on my iPad.
Hi there! There is not an option in our app to turn off the saving as it is usually best for the photos to save, but in the iPad settings you can turn off photo permissions. You will receive an error message in the app when you do this. You can always go in and delete photos post event.
Hi Tom! Are you using Simple Booth or LiveBooth for printing? This support link is for information on printing in Simple Booth, but LiveBooth will work similarly: support.simplebooth.com/hc/en-us/categories/203198807-Printing
It's a total bummer that you cannot see the count down screen!!! the lens needs to be on the front. Can you attach a camera instead? I like the app because of the social media feature
I hope you get to answer my question as quick as you can since my event is in around 1.5 months. However, is it possible to use the app but connect the Ipad or Iphone to a Nikon/Canon camera? Instead of using the Ipad's camera?
Hi Marie, the Event Edition app can only use the iPad's camera because we are hoping to keep things simple. You can improve the quality of the photos by introducing some type of lighting, as you see here!
I have a few questions, 1 can you print right from the app on the same screen after the pics are taken, 2 do you need that light for the front facing camera, 3 does the app come with backgrounds?
Thanks for clarifying! Printing is a part of the Simple Booth platform but happens after guests have an opportunity to make edits to their photos. You don't need lighting but we strongly encourage that you use some kind of lighting since it will dramatically improve photo quality. The app doesn't come with pre-made backgrounds--we allow you to upload your own. Cheers!
Hi, could you list links to where I can find all the equipment and apps that you used? I have a wedding coming up and this is definitely a cheaper route as oppose to sending 500+ at some places for just 2hrs
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Being able to DIY your own booth is more fun anyways :) If you're interested in seeing some of the equipment Simple Booth recommends, visit their DIY guide: www.simplebooth.com/diy-photo-booth
Hi Mark, I just purchased the movie mount you suggested - I'm wondering if you can suggest a program for a video booth instead of photo? And I've found a bunch of apps to slow down video as well so I'd like to be able to record the video booth but edit it in an app that allows me to slow down or speed up. Any suggestions?
I've been looking into photo booths to buy and i haven't been able to buy one without being tied to a company and working for them as such... love this idea, but worried the ipad will be horrible quality. have you personally used this at weddings events and had a good review? is there any way to print them on the spot?
Taylor Cordwell Hi Taylor! Actually we have used this for weddings and big expos and had great quality images! Of course the newer the iPad the more improved camera quality you will have, but having good lighting is what will really make the difference. You can read tips in our getting started guide: www.simplebooth.com/download/GettingStarted.pdf Also, you are able to print right then and there!
Hey there, it should be if everything goes smoothly with Apple's approval. It has been submitted for review! Usually it only takes a week so I think there is a good chance it will be ready by then.
+Michelle Ford Hi Michelle! An AirPrint printer will work with the app. The Canon Selphy CP910 or 1200 is a great one to use at weddings. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PTbHkOOCNCI.html
Hi Noore, LiveBooth is no longer being developed, if you're looking to set up a new activation you might want to check out what the Simple Booth team is working on at simplebooth.com. Cheers!
I am back... Is there any way in the future to use a real commercial photo booth printer with this (software) & the iPad? I know if this was on an android or window tablet it would be possible. I tell you, Apple is so tight with their technology.
Yes, absolutely. It does require a computer and third-party software. You can read about it under "Advanced Printing" on our support page: simpleboothapp.com/support
Customized Occasions Hi there! To sync photos to LiveBooth you do need Wi-Fi. You can learn more about the syncing options here: www.liveboothapp.com/support/syncing-photos-101/#title
