Just realized you can skip the brim wire and pin the sides of the hat onto the crown instead. Makes a good looking tricorn hat without the hassle of stitching the brim

Just so we are clear, the instructions state you only need a hole punch, cutting device, needle and thread, leather, and a printer. Could you explain to me why in the video it shows you using a stitching groover and chisel? Is this simply an oversight on your part? I don't understand how you are supposed to achieve the stitching without the additional tools that you state aren't required in the instructions.

2 mm aluminium wire, available at any hardware shop. Steel also ok

Just a few notes, a real leather skipper hat, or captains hat, would have the brim be buttened to the cap, creating the shape of the triangular pirates hat. This was done for a few reasons, it would be very handy to be able to lover down the parts of the hat, witch would be facing the sun, to protect from sunburn and heatstroke, while still being able to snap up the other sides of the hat for visability, or fully lovering all the sides for rainy days, and fully raising the sides for night times. It would often be the captain, who was at the rudder in a stationary position all day, wearing such a well thought out and expensive hat, with so many uses. The hat would rarely be in such an open and exposed position, so forming it like so, is purely for asteticks. Furthermore, the cap was sowed, very beutifully mind you, on the inside of the brim. Due to the shape of the hat in its current state, it would trap water, and surely leak, given enough time. If the cap was sowed on the outside of the brim, the water would never get through, and the hat would be nice and waterproof 😊

as a leather crafter myself i would say kinda the outside edging would be uncomfy to do but you could and the bowl part would be hard, but the rim to bowl part would be vary hard. for angle reasons i would recommend not doing this on a machine for best results

Lightly brush on a 50/50 - water/resolene solution usually water proofs most of my leather projects without making them too stiff, straight resolene water proofs it but makes it stiff, thats what I use on holsters

Make one buddy! I am going to : ) You only require few tools to make it. I'm just finishing off a Jolly Roger on the sewing machine, for no apparent reason... Then there is just the eye-patch and some serious earrings missing for me to be the real deal, as well as a ship...

How do you know what size to make?

Measure the circumference of your head above your eyebrows. Then calculate the Diameter by dividing the circumference through 3,141. The result of this is the Size you Need.

@@amystrickland7162 The circumference divided through pi gives you the inner diameter of the opening of the outer ring. Measure above the eyebrowes so that the hat sits good. The diameter of the finished hat would be the outer width. For measuring the size this is not needed.

Probably like 3 or 4 oz since 6 is tooling leather and doesn’t fold as well as that.

honestly, ever since I bought from you the plague doctor diy kit, I've tried to see if you had any other. The ones I'm interested would be the Aviator hat and the Tricorn

the problem with kits is that they are not easy to make and end up costing too much to be attractive to buyers that's why i try and do more patterns so anyone who has access to scraps of leather can make their own items on the cheap

when you print the XL size, instead of 100%, print to 105%, etc. depending on how big you need it to be in comparison. make it in paper or cardboard first for size first.

If you are in the U.S. find a Tandy Leather Supply. All the equipment and supplies I have purchased from them has been excellent quality with very few exceptions. They aren't the cheapest supplier but they are reliable and well stocked.
