OK sooo love this idea......Got my Pallet this morn, heading to get screws n nails...... Making a Cactus Planter and cant wait to do it....TY for the idea & Instructions! (63 yrs young- lady, whos just got her first power tools ) :)
Great job, glad it turned out well for you. Thanks for watching. Please check out our latest pallet planter "how to", its a tall companion to go with this planter.
The brilliance is in the simplicity. Absolutely great idea on a number of levels. Repurpose, weather proofed material, conservation and shit even I can make these. Starting this coming weekend. Hats of to you bro. Keep up the great work!
Hello. Thank you for making this video. I made it. The instructions where clear. I did make it a bit different, as i was using a different pallet. Ps: it takes longer than you think :)
Nice job 👍 not complicated, simple. I should be able to do this for next spring. Tired of bending over for long periods of time in the garden. Thanks for your video and sharing 👍
Nice design, might steal it. Made some a little different myself. Longest part of the process was removing the nails. I admit I cheated and cut along the outside and just had to remove the middle nails from the inside board
Make sure the pallet is HEAT TREATED and NOT treated with METHYL BROMIDE. if the pallet is stamped with a HT, or KD (kiln dried) you’ll be fine. If you can’t find a stamp or it is stamped MB, avoid using it.
Hi Archie, good comment and thanks for highlighting that issue. Almost all pallets are heat treated as required for ispm 15 standards. I see that you are in Canada so I can't say that all Canadian pallets are produced in this way, however in Europe and UK they are all heat treated. Here is a link to a site with info about ispm15 standard which includes a list of countries which "officially" comply with it. associated-pallets.co.uk/what-we-do/guide-ispm15/
@@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 I have used some pallets for home use and we have seen some creep in from other areas so that’s why I mentioned it. When I started a garden last year, someone mentioned about the possibility of the tainted pallets. I haven’t seen many and when you do they seem obvious at a glance, (grey, dark, oily all the stuff you don’t want in your food) but some people might not even be aware that pallets are even treated at all. I’ve been thinking about how to set up some raised beds so now with your video, I don’t have to think anymore! Sadly, a lot of our pallets here seem to be the blockless ones (thick bracer boards like a rotored 2x4 run the length) but that just means a little more imagination. I’ll use the heavy bracers as legs! Thanks for the video!
@@ArchieInRealLife thanks Archie, you'll be happy to hear that I have a vid coming up about building a similar unit from pallets which use bracer boards. 😉
Great video; I am unclear the area of stacking, did you use just used two small woods in the opposite direction and did drill that will help the stacking three boxes or do we need to use glue? Please suggest. Thank you.
A good quality weatherproof woodstain. In this country we have a product called "Ronseal Fencelife" I have found it to be very long lasting and protects the wood in damp conditions.
Hi what was the size of the pallet used? Otherwise very clear cut video. Thank you. Any ideas for an easy pallet fence to keep out "things from my yard, 2 & 4 legged kind". Thanks again😊
Hello, with pallet wood it's usually warped a little meaning there's gaps between the planks. If you're lucky enough to get a pallet with straight planks then you can leave small gaps or you can drill extra holes to suit your needs.
Sorry to hear, thats dissapointing. The pallets can be tricky, picking the right pallets and finding every nail is not as straight forward as it can seem. Dont give up though, find more pallets and try again. Free timber is the best timber!
Yes we do have both, but a regular hammer is too light, my mechanics hammer works better. Having stripped hundreds of pallets we've learned faster ways to do things.
These dont work for long use the soil just washes out the gaps then they rot and fall apart after a year you have to double up everything you do over lapping oposite ways to ensure the soil stays in and it lasts longer then 10 years
@@freshleap unless your only planning on growing flowers you should be okay but bigger plants need a much better strength box with decent but not to much drainedge holes
Used pallets to decorate your walls. I can’t recommend using them when they’re in contact with food sources. They are heavily treated with toxic chemicals.
No mould so far anyway, a treatment of woodstain before planting can extend the life of the planter by years and is highly recommended as environmental conditions differ greatly.
