Excellent build! I especially like the jig making processes, it's amazing how it takes four hours to make the shell but four weeks to make all the jigs lol. Either way, fantastic job, keep up the great work!

Excellent work. Now if you want to turn that into a monster extend that snare bed out all the way untill they meet one another. You will be able to tune your bottom head unlike anything else.

Just curious but did you make the lengths of the lamination pieces slightly longer than the circumference of 14", and then not tighten the mold completely as you snugged it up? Or, did you make the diameter slightly smaller than 14" and thats where you got the 43.5" and 42 11/16" measurement? Or did you just keep taking more off with saw until it fit snug in dry fit up?
@AydDesignCo
@AydDesignCo 4 года назад
You’re spot on! I got my length for the outer part, sneaking up in the cut. Then did the same with the inner. All clamped up, I remember both side of the form touching. I also remember having to recut both pieces a couple times from accidentally making them too short 🤦‍♂️
@Zachadiddle

Out of curiosity did you build the shell itself from a sheet of 1/8 inch plywood? Very inspiring video!

Hey! Beautiful snare, I really liked it 😍👍🏼, I wanted to ask what raw material did you used? And how it bends so easy?

Hey thanks! It’s 2 sheets of material that is 3mm thick each. It’s already really flexible to begin with!

Skipped a section with bearing edge cutting. On what degree did you cut? 45 or what? Or did you edges by hand?
@AydDesignCo
@AydDesignCo 4 года назад
Yup, skipped sections on both sides for the snare beds. 45 degree bevels with a router bit in both sides and sanded the snare beds transition round-overs by hand.

I made a flat bottom snare bed with the router table (3:45) then sanded in the transition.

Really nice Video, but I have 3 questions! First of all, did you calculate the lengths of the veneer or did you just try it out until it fit (because I would like to build different sices of shells)? Second question, how thick is your veneer and how many plys does it have? And last but not least, which hardware did you use, I'm very interested in it, it looks amazing.
@AydDesignCo
@AydDesignCo Год назад
Thank you! -Length of plywood was simply trial an error, mostly error! -I used x2 sheets 1/8” Baltic birch plywood. So I suppose 6 veneers total. -I’m not sure where the hardware is from, I salvaged them from an unbranded used drum purchased at drum shop 15 years ago.
