After watching many a video, I found yours to be down to earth. Thought you have a great talent for crafting the polymer clay. a very good eye for textures and colors.
Every tutorial I have watched shows them submerging the entire piece in water, then you lightly rub the paper and it just comes off real easy. This was fun to watch and it turned out great.
+Nicole Newman There are so many differences in the ink in ink jet printers it's a wonder it works at all...lol. I really was rubbing very gently & I'm such a rebel...lol...I've done it before where I submerged the entire piece but I really didn't notice a difference except maybe the mess...lol...I did make a mess. Thanks Nicki!
+mskaykrafts Thanks Claudene, I've tried lots of image transfer techniques but this is the best success I've been able to get. It may have something to do with the printer ink since I know ink jet printers vary with the inks they use. I have an HP but I think Epson & Cannon have different inks as well. Thanks again Hon! Hugs Lyn
I remember doing the same thing in thr 70's with a printex image and clear mailing tape. Contact paper will work also. Burnish image onto tape, dampen with water and let sit for a few minutes, then roll off the paper. You have a translucent image.
I've used the tape with resin as well but it doesn't work so well with ink jet printer images in my opinion...the bleed. I've done them & the used foil tape as a backer to get an old fashioned daguerreotype image though. Thanks for the tips! Lyn
Hi I was wondering if I could come live with you for a year or longer to try and learn all you know about polymer clay. I have finally caught up on your videos, and let me tell you that you are my favorite tv star (I watch my you tube on my tv). We agree on so much and it is nice to see that you have the same problems as us little folk Keep up the good work.
I used Willowbird studio video tutorial for image transfers and they come out perfectly every time. I use TLS on plain paper and an inkjet printer. Her method bakes the image with the tls first then adds more tls and places it onto raw clay and bakes again. Then just place it into a bowl of water for about a half hour and gently rub off. It works perfectly every time. I have never had a problem. Her video describes it better than I can, but its amazing.
+Peggy Coffey Hi Peggy, I couldn't make it work at all...the image just peeled right off? Don't know what I did wrong but it didn't work for me. I may need to watch it again & try again...
+LynzCraftz Peggy, her method says to use matte photo paper...you've gotten good results using plain printer paper? I'm just checking before I try it again...lol...let me know, Hon...
+LynzCraftz I used regular paper and TLS. I wasn't going to the store for image transfer paper, so I used what I had. It works great. I gently rub the paper off. It works every time for me. I use it a lot with my adult coloring book images. I transfer it to polymer clay and color it with mica powder or acrylic paints. Turns out great.
+Peggy Coffey Awesome Peggy, I've got my test piece in the oven right now. I think the first time I may not have costed the image with TLS first but I'm not sure. I watched her video over again & this time I think I've got it...I'll let you know how it turns out...lol. Thanks again!
+Peggy Coffey Still didn't work for me...the color comes right off. The black outline seems to stay ok but just not the color. Oh well thanks again anyway Peggy! At least I tried...lol...right?
+faye austin Hi Faye, I often had trouble with the 2pt resin overflowing & making a real mess & I had seen resin mats used by some. I finally found a great one...rockinresin.com/products/silicone-resin-doming-tray-mat but of course it's out of stock at the moment. It does have a spot where you can check to be notified when it's back in stock though. This one is large enough for bigger project & relatively inexpensive(some of them I found where ridiculously high)Hope it helps Hon. Lyn
I would let it dry until your transfer medium is dry but even overnight is fine. The paper is just regular copy/ printer paper 8 1/2"×11" cut into quarters...idk A4 size...lol. Not stupid we just don't use those size measurements although we probably should. Thanks cherrypop!
How many minuts the picture must lay on the polymer clay to get the best result? And baking it after this procedure or before? Thank you - I am very new in it. I begin today 😊 and have a lot to learn. Can I use this great technique too with watercolor images, drawn by me? Hm..."normal" water in this bottle? Cold or hot? 😵 Have a wonderful inspired day, warmest greetings from Weimar in Germany, Katrin and 3 cozy cats
Thank you! The first time you brush on the "transfer medium"(try to brush over it as little as possible, which ever one you use) it needs to set until dry & for the other layers. When you adhere it down onto the clay & burnish it doesn't need to set until dry just until the "print" has adhered without any bubbles. Then bake. After it cools then wet the paper backing with just room temp. water. Not sure about the watercolor though, you'd just have to try it on a sample piece. I hope this helps. Thanks again. Lyn
could you tell me from wich artist those beautifull images are? i've been searching for hours and can't find them. Would really love to make them :-) thank you for inspiring me
Hi Lyn🙋🏼,you always come up with suck beautiful stuff. Are these your drawings or did you get them from somewhere? Have you tried doing the transfers with TLS? That's how I usually do mine. There is a transfer medium that I have that a lot of the professional clay artist use on clay but I can't remember the name, when I do I'll let you know. You can also do a transfer with gel medium. Have you ever made a poured acrylic skin. I've used them on clay and they are really pretty. There are tutorials on You Tube to show you how to make them. Love the video, take care my friend, Dee😊👍
+DeeEll86442 Hi Dee, yes these are my artwork just out of my art journal. I have tried the TLS method but not matter what I can't seem to get good results with printer paper. Almost all of the videos I've seen use either matter photo paper or transfer paper, etc. I've seen one on the paper artsy brand of transfer medium that looked promising but you know..lol. No I haven't tried the acrylic skins(well accept we played around with them in school...lol) You take care as well, Dee!Thanks Hon! Lyn
