DIY pool Filter Cartridge replacement IT REALLY WORKS!! Step by step
We have been searching stores for weeks, trying to find the Intex B filter. Online we can only find a 2 pack for over $50. I came across a post that mentioned using items from around the home so I thought we would give it a try and OMG it works better then the actual store bought filter!!! ITEMS NEEDED:
1 1/2" PVC pipe
Small piece of screen
zip tie
filler from a pillow

Wouldn't it just be easier to take the filter off the original filter cartridge rather than cutting and sanding the pvc pipe? Then stuff it with cotton? What about using a melamine sponge instead of cotton?

Excellent! So I was going to do something similar with a 5-gal bucket after seeing another video then I thought "wait couldn't I do the same thing on the existing housing?" and found your video!

You should unscrew the lower blue knob before you turn the pump on then the upper blue knob and it helps if all hoses are under water so the water fills the filter by itself then just a little air out the top .

We recently changed our filter into this DIY option. Do you need to drill holes in the pvc pipe? If so, what size holes and how many? Thanks

Almost a year later how is it working? Cleaning very difficult? Sounded noisy?

It’s AWESOME!! It’s ran for a month now so I emptied it last weekend. It is amazing!! And so easy! I’m still using that pillow fluff from the same pillow!! Not empty yet! I thing emptying and refilling once a month with a $3 pillow that lasts a year is so so worth it. Water is crystal clear! I just posted a video last week. When we had to prime the pump dirty water came out, that’s my indicator to change the fluff! Thanks so much for asking!!

Thank you very, very much for this "free" great idea, especially since pool filter prices have tripled, or more most everywhere! I just watched a video before this about a man using an old sock, and it worked, too :-) May God bless, and keep you always, and hope you will read Revelation 18-22 and Isaiah to Malachi about these end times.

ineffective, best idea is soak filter in a bucket with dishwasher tablet solution for 3-4 hrs and wash with spray from hose . Filter ridges increase surface area of filter

Just watched this, I could be wrong but you didn't drill any holes in the pipe so the water is going up the pipe and because you cut the pipe short the water is by passing the filter material and escaping via the gap you left between the top of the pipe and the filter lid. Surely the pipe should connect to the protrusion in the bottom of the lid making a water tight seal then the water would pass through the holes you should have drilled and then pass through the filter material.

Kevin, Great Thoughts, It has been since last year. Once I get it opened up and set up I will look again, I remember we did not drill any holes. The media really worked well, never had any issues with the new DIY set up. Thank you so much for your input, I will get back with you soon :)

@@ParagonRidgeRanch I can see it worked well, I'm going to borrow a lot of your ideas, I just thought it would work even better with holes in the pipe. If you look at your original cartridges you will see they locate on the lug at the bottom of the filter unit and the top has a lug that goes into the top of the cartridge. The middle of the cartridge has a plastic type mesh so all the water passes through the filter, if you still lots of holes in the pipe I think it will improve performance and to it should prime easier. If it fills from the bottom then it’s fine. Because the water has to pass thru the filter media up to the pipe opening. Putting holes may be better. It would increase the water flow rate but at the time may reduce the filtering quality. This is because the bucket fills from the bottom and has to pass thru less material to escape to the outlet. Without the holes the water is forced to pass thru all the material before getting to the outlet pipe.

If only you'd had a perfectly sized piece of plastic tube that was custom made to fit in & do exactly that right next to you.....🤦‍♂️ Just rip the paper off dude
