Here is a cheap replacement impeller if yours is shot: amzn.to/4cMF09L (This link will take you to an affiliate listing that will pay me a very small commission if you purchase. This helps me to continue making videos. Thanks!)
Ordered this and didn't fit mine. It's to small. Went to put back together with old parts and now the GFCI failed. I recommend not waisting time with this garbage. Trash can it and spend 45 bucks a year.
Yo! Coming from a vacuum technician, the best way to wash pleated filters is to soak them in a dilution of “Dawn heavy duty degreaser” (the purple degreaser chemical AT LOWES, NOT the dish soap). Then rinse with water, then water and white vinegar dilution (removes degreaser residue), then water again (removes vinegar residue). Other chemicals clog the pores of the filter media, eat at the fibers, and/or fray the fibers.
If you lift the pump above the pool and undo the grey nob on the top it will allow air in so the pipes drain into the pool, then take the pipes off as he demonstrated and put them into the pool, you won’t loose any water
Mine stops working about every 2nd time I go to turn it on. BUT, I just UNPLUG FIRST, plug the in/out take holes, open pump, dump out the water, close it back up...and it starts every time after doing that. Your fix might be longer lasting... but for those who don't feel confident to take the pump apart... it is just another suggestion. These pumps are cheap but not pricewise!
It might mean that you have too much on one circuit. Is it possible that you have other things plugged in on that same circuit? A pump takes a lot of amperage to get started at first. It might be popping the ufci
All I did was take it apart per your instructions and put it back together. This is the first time the pump has worked! Thank you so much. I was ready to trash it.
Thank you for making this video! My pump didn't work after putting it away for the winter and spring. I took the pump apart, cleaned the rotor and boom its back in business.
Yes, I reset my GFCI. I disconnected the hoses last night and dried everything. I could not get the bottom screws to loosen without stripping them so I left them alone. Instead, I plugged it in dry and it was spinning (motor on). Instead of using 2 drain to filter hoses, I used only 1 since my pool is small, and of course used the hose that connects back to the pool after filtering. That seems to have done the trick. I believe having 3 hoses was overload. Not sure but for now it's working. Thanks again.
Plug all 3 holes. Take one of the outtake stoppers out. Let the water begin to fill. Open the air release valve on the top of the pump until water runs with no air pockets. Shut the valve on the top of the pump. Take out the remaining 2 stoppers. Then hit reset to let the pump begin. Make sure you tighten all connections. If you see bubbles, hit "test" to stop the pump. Then, unscrew the air valve on top of the pump again until it runs clear with no air pockets. Then, hit reset button.
Haha, here in NZ they don't come with a RCA safety plug. Just our standard 3 pin live, neutral, earth plugs. Bestway cutting safety corners to maximise profits.
If the GFCI keeps tripping, it's possible there is a larger issue as that is a electrical safety issue. it's possible there is moisture or water tripping it somewhere.
This pump came with my pool and it was absolutely horrible. I ended up upgrading to a 2500 gph pump which was twice and a half as much ghp as this one since this is one is only 1000gph. Now this pump I had left over so I ended up using it as a fountain to keep my pool cool during the summer.
Hi Jason, For some reason i cannot open the top part its too tight (on your video 7:28). i tried with channel lock and added some WD40 to loosen it up but still nothing. Do you have any other suggestions?
My Coleman Power Steel aboveground pool came with the flow clear pump, it's transparent so I can not only see the condition of the filter (clean, dirt), but also the amount of water flowing through the pump. So, yes, the pump makes same noises, but when you can actually 'see!' what's going on, you're, well, I am at ease. I can truly say, if I couldn't and just heard all that clattering, I would be wondering what is going on. As in my neighbour's hvac system is loud then gets louder then makes all these sounds and I wonder what is going on, is it ok, is it going to explode. Beeb doing it for years, so, guess what I'm sayin is, I like my transparent pump, but I cannot find another one. The hoses are cracking and I put flex tape around cracks. I can't find replacement hoses.
Hiya Jason: Hoping you could answer my question - we have only recently put our 10ft pool up with one of these filter pumps and within a week of the pool being up, the filter just wont seem to work, have tried most things like releasing the air and water inside the pump. Would taking it apart and having a look inside help?? Surely the filter cant be stuffed after only a weeks usage. Any advice to help would be great as i just cant figure out how its gone from working one minute to all of a sudden nothing??? Thanx in advance 😊 Edit: problem has been resolved (hopefully) found why the motor wouldnt turn was because of a little black knob at the top of the shaft of the pump mechanism which connects to the suction seal. when i took it off the motor worked straight away but if i put it back on its like it jammed it up so ive left it off and so far (fingers crossed) pump is working fine. Thanx to your tutorial though i would never have known how to pull apart and put back together the pump - BIG Thank you 🙏
I have a similar pool but this one uses the large long pump that goes on the side and screw seals to the pool and hangs. I wonder if someone out there that is good with 3D printing could make a better impeller design that would work better. I've seen people modify the pump I have and run the upgraded sand filter in line after the pump. I can see stuff float past the Inlet so it just seems like it needs better suction which a better impeller design may solve it. Just a thought for those with 3D printers maybe worth a shot for cheaper DIY fix than $300 bucks on the sand pump upgrade most people seem to do.
@@JasonSipe16 I'm the same way lol. I got to work with inventor extrude autodesk etc. Programs when I was going through a program years and years ago but unfortunately it all stopped and I changed majors before we got to mess with the 3D printers. But with how much more affordable smaller ones are now maybe you might find your niche lol. I'd try it but I don't have a 3d printer and my laptop is more like a tablet so I don't think it's even powerful enough to run autodesk without major lag
THANK YOU SIR! just fixed our pump, it made more noise than usual and i figured i would take it apart to see what was going on, also i have two solar mats and they didn't heat the pool anymore due to lack of pressure. I just needed a quick tutorial on how to disassemble the pump, did that and found that there was a tiny part that came loose at the bottom of the axle, put it back together and presto it works like new.
You can actually put some all purpose grease or vaseline on the rotor or inside the casing where the rotor fit in. I did mine. and not even the slightest sound and pumps perfectly💫
I couldn'ttell when you removed the crappy impeller if yours has cuts on that kind of like white loop?. Don't know if that's what's causing the rattling noise? I took it apart as you did. I will install.again. good video, thanks
Problem is no matter how well you take care of it or how many fixes you know for troubleshooting.. it doesn't fix the problem that they are made cheap and the motor slows down after a few months of running. You have to replace yearly or get a better quality pump. I suggest building one.
the noise is because you have bubbles in it ,release the top valve before you turn it on (until water rises to the top and start spilling) than close it ,now turn pump on ,there should not be any noise exept the water flow from the hoses ,all you need to do it to make sure there are no air in the hoses or the pump ,that is all
If you take it apart like in the video, you can probably find what is smacking against the side and causing the noise. It's also possible that the impeller has worn down too much and is not catching against the motor shaft. I have another video coming out soon that addresses that, but I can't say that it is an easy fix. In fact, I ended up having to buy a sand filter because I couldn't find another impeller.
If you have a water hose with the sprayer that offers different settings you can use that to clean your pool filter. I cleaned mine today using the jet sitting and I even put the sprayer in the middle to get the top and bottom really well anyway hope this helps and they also make a device you can attach to your water hose specifically to clean, the filters
My pool is crystal clear bit I knew the filter hasn't been cleaned in a couple of nights. I believe it's going to make it turned off till tomorrow. That pump I always have it running
@@JasonSipe16 I'm trying to understand which items are stationary and which are rotating. There is shaft/axis made of metal or in some pumps ceramics, there is magnetic impeller, spacers and the rotor that moves water. The noice made by the pump must be generated by axle play in the rotor socket and rotor vertical vibrations. That would indicate axis to be stationary and spacers being responsible for transfering impeller rotation to the rotor.
We got our pump last year! And it's not even turning on 😢 I have to look for the name of it, the pump we got with the pool was junk! That's why I bought a different one.
Is the GFC needing to be reset? It's possible that it is on, but the impeller is not drawing water. If you pull the filter out and look at it without water going through, you can see if the impeller is spinning or not
Thanks so much Jason, could you please let me know the size of the washers to buy? We don't have them locally so will need to order online. Thanks in advance!
This was exactly what I needed bc I was about to throw mine away! Lol now it's pumping better for sure and has a lot more water pressure going back into the pool! Any tips on how to keep it from leaking though? Idk what I'm doing wrong but water always seems to leak from around the top of pump no matter how tight the lid and/or air valve thing are.
Definitely try to check to see if the rubber black gasket is in there. If it is, you just have to seat it really well, and then tighten it down. Might need to tighten it as much as you possibly can. I'm a big guy and it's still kind of hard to turn that thing. You might be able to get better grip on it if you wrap a cloth or something around it to give you some extra grip.
Last summer I got my pool. Pump went out less then 2 weeks later. Finally got it replaced and same thing happened. So I gave up for the summer and upgraded this summer. It was absolutely frustrating
Internet is full of the same story on the reviews from purchasers. Impeller is thin plastic that is driven by a shaft that is shaped like a drinking straw. Cracks off as the pump starts or works hard. Took two of my pumps apart and find the exact same problem, cracked impeller shafts. I'm on my 3rd pump and it too is starting to have this problem - much lower flow even with new filters. I'm thinking of glue (epoxy) to cement the impeller parts together to the rotor.
Hiya Jason, I use the same pump on my fish pond with a skimmer & wish to give you my tips if I may. Firstly the skimmer has socks inside the basket so I do not use filters inside the pump. Secondly, my spindle which went through the impeller was made of plastic & snapped in 2. I got an empty biro pen insert & cut a length the same as the broken one, put a toothpick inside the biro to add some rigidity & put it back together. It works like a dream.
Do you mean "it just quit working one day"? If so, it could be a bad gfci plug, or you might need to take the filter out and look down and see if the impeller is rotating at all.
I mean, you're right--it's trash, but if people don't have the money to buy a better pump right away, I try to show how to fix this one. That said, I also recommend buying another type of pump.
Just disasembling that wobly pump made it work back again... I had to sand the selenoid a little bit cause yeah mine is in plastic, even the shaft of the pump is in plastic 🙃. TY. (the shaft is in ceramic.) make sure the pump pumps water with a good flow cause if your filter is dirty the shaft will warp and snap.
@@JasonSipe16 luckily the pump is simple I just thought it was supposed to be silent! So when noticed the noise I ran to RU-vid ! Thanks! I also do that with my filters too btw. I throw em in the washer after tho 🤣
It's likely that the impeller is not pulling water through--or that the filter is too full of gunk. Try taking out the filter completely and seeing if it works then. if not, it's possible that you also have the hoses switched.
I got thia same pool. But this dang pump has gotten on my last nerve. I have been dooing do well for my first pool. But right now im going go smash this one.
I have one similar to that one but the chamber for the filter is by itself bit motor is by itself me and my mom have been trying to make it work but it has no pressure it doesn't suck anyone help me out? The motor is the same one in the video
If you take it out and look inside, the impeller should have a key that should be able to connect with the rotor key. If they have been worn down too much, it can't move the impeller and just spins and Spins without making the impeller go. The impeller is what makes the suction.
Mine turns off after a Few minutes on. The motor is very hot when it turns off so I’m guessing it’s overheating so it turns off for safety. Might be time to buy a new pump?
Honestly, I'm the kind of guy that says you should try to fix stuff, but in this case, it sounds like a fairly cheap motor is overheating, and there's not much you can do to salvage that in one of these small units. Might be better to replace it.
Hi jason i just upgraded to a sand filter and dont want to get electrocuted in the pool haha do i need a special adpater for an outlet or a special extension cord because the pumps cord is very short and doesnt reach my outside outlet. Any help would be great thanks!
Good question. You'd be more likely to get shocked if the extension cord connects to the pump in the yard. It has a gfci, so if tjere is a short circuit, it will click off.
I have this pump and they made it with no way to unscrew the bottom off. I can see the part that needs cleaned through the hole but I can’t access it. So frustrating. They figured it out that we’re just fixing them
It could be possible that your GFCI on the end of the plug has failed. If that is the case, you can replace it with a new gfci instead of buying a whole new pump
Hi I know this video is almost a year old but if you can really help me my filter is brand new I just bought the pool hasn’t been up not even a month and the filter is not turning on at all please help it was but now it just doesn’t do anything when plugged in
It's possible it needs a new GFI plug. Somewhat easy to do if you have any experience changing plug heads, but you might want to check it with a digital multimeter first.
I don't disagree with you, but I just want to show people how to fix what they have if they don't have enough money to upgrade. In fact, I just had to recently upgrade mine to a sand filter.
@JasonSipe16 I understand and of course it can be a fix for the meantime I actually upgraded mine to sand filter yesterday when those filters sound crackling its time to clean them I literally had to clean mine 3 times a week or else no flow
I find the plastic impeller shaft is always cracked down inside the rotor. Have not yet tried to glue the parts back together. I Notice the two impeller driver shaft "tabs" get ground down and the center tube breaks off.
@@ellendyer338 it is probably not seating on the top. I'd recommend unscrewing the top and pulling the top off, and then push it back down and tighten it again. Make sure the very top fend hole is tightened as well
@@JasonSipe16 thanks. So is it usual for the flow to slow dramatically after the first day? The flow is super fast and strong when I change the filter and by the next morning it’s slowed to a drizzle. Am I just expecting too much of the pump?
@@JasonSipe16 not particularly, the grass gets caught up in the net before it leaves the pool so it’s just the filters getting too clogged. Just been out now and swapped yesterday’s filter. Same thing again
If you get to a point where you're sick of changing out filters, I recommend you check out this video (I upgraded to Sand Filter): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cw47IAdtyrg.htmlsi=nGqIeyH3xVHqVw06
It's very easy and takes less than 5 minutes. I use only one filter for the whole season. Every week I take him out ones or twice and rinse him very good with my garden hose and reinstall him . Problem solved, and the year after buy and install a new one and have never run into a problem..
@@JasonSipe16: My biggest problems are the plastic water spiral pipes. Since I live in the MEDITERRANEAN/Greece, during summer time it gets very hot, and actually after four to five months they break between the spirals and afterwards they are useless. Unfortunately according to pool size the price of two spiral pipes are equivalent to half the price of the pool itself, and since the suppliers aren't stupid, they are going to strip you 😀.. At the moment I am trying to find a solution, but in-between, I am enjoying my little pool. Regards..
@@JasonSipe16 : well its not a joke , example a steel frame pool (Intex or Bestway) 305×305 is about 150€ no frame same size about 80€ !And now the hammer two pipes 3 m each 32 Dia with courier service is 60 to 70 €. It's only one way, take it or leave it! But since I really love my pool, I am forced to take it..
@JasonSipe16 yes I've added chlorine, shock and ph down. Been running pump for over a week consistently and still cloudy. Pump seems to be cycling well but it's over a year old and I'm thinking it might be due to the pump.
@jenniferwoods8395 you might need to buy a new paper filter for it and throw the other one out. I would also suggest you buy some clarifier. It will turn a cloudy pool clear in an hour. You will have to probably vacuum up the solids that are on the bottom of the pool though
@@JasonSipe16 never even did anything to my pump besides change filter snd wash it out before storage. But last week it just stsrted clangin' n bangin'.. so I took it part like this video and the whole bottom piece was broken and warped a little as if it got hot
@@JasonSipe16 yeah I kept telling my kids to release the air after they got done swimming but we all know how that goes. 🤣 I'll just have be more adamant of teaching them next year what happens when we don't properly use the pump. Luckily now I have a show and tell pump.
Sorry, I don't have experience with pools. I am asking the type of filter to buy a replacement. For what type/size or model of filter i should look for? I appreciate your answers.
Mine still not working. I have a pump that is designed just like yours. The light comes on when I test it and everything but the pump do not turn or make any type of noise. I’ve tried different outlets and nothing seems to work. I’ve watched different videos I tried putting wd40 in it and nothing 😭
If there is absolutely no sound, it is probably your GFCI. This is my video that explains that problem with that pump. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ofWl1TrcpOM.html
You can unscrew the cap on the very top and that will allow the air out of the pump. The air in the hose can be somewhat alleviated by moving the hose so the bubbles can go back into the pool
