Building the posts: part 2
The question is to buy or build, I chose build. Building an overland pop-up truck camper or a pickup pop up as I like to call it. The plan is to have it act like a wedge camper as well as a full pop up. Not doing the vanlife or trucklife so the camper needs to be able to come on and off. It also needs come apart to store in a small space.
More info will be here:
boulderunderground.com/camp/c...
List of all dimensions and materials coming later with the same link
If you need a link to anything about the build, just leave a comment and I will get it added.

Glad I found your channel! Currently designing a camper out of 15 series extruded Aluminum. Never worked with it before so I'm pretty much flying blind, but I got a lot of good ideas from your build. Thank you!

Makes me really nervous for you.. with all the washboards in the country, this should be welded for safety and keeping square in the long run

Love this build! Question for you, why not use any internal fastners like anchors? I have found a lot of stability by using double anchor connectors.

I am going to check some of those out. I think there are several places they would work well for the build.

Great build! Wondering why you are building the flatbar all the way around if you only need it for only a portion of the top to support the bed. I was also wondering if you thought about making the top overhang longer so that a person could be sleeping while another person was up in the bed and just add a gusset or a support mounted to a roof rack which would only be needed when stationary and not when the bed might be flexing compared to the body.

You are right, I don’t need the flatbar to go the entire perimeter of the camper. No real reason. I do have a 1/4 inch gap that I need to fill anyway. I was thinking that the 1 inch flatbar shelf might come in handy but will have to wait to see as the build continues. It does provide some bracing for any lateral forces but I don’t think that is going to be an issue. We will see what kind of forces the popup sides put on the top rail

I did want to make the top long enough for someone to sleep and another to be able sit at a table and chair without the bed above. Right now there is about two feet to get off the bed when deployed. I’m planning to revisit extending the front. I ran out of time for a road trip so I kept it shorter.

Good ideas on the over cab support. I will try them soon when I get the roof done.

What is your plan for making sure the bolts do not start to loosen as you drive the vehicle? I built out my GFC interior with aluminum and have been having issues with bolts working themselves loose.

I was planning to use loctite. Not sure what strength yet.

Thinking about a kit but it probably won't be out of 8020. I have a contact in the industry and am planning a meeting to talk about it soon.

Not sure about the cost, still building the camper. Still haven't finished mine yet. Maybe one day I could build some campers for others.
