I started to have brown streaks in my teeth from demineralization- they went away and I started noticing results after using this toothpaste after 3-4 days! (along with a high protein and calcium diet and removing foods with high phytic acid and oil pulling)- thanks for this video!
Update: The brown streaks went away because of the polishing away of the enamel- the grains of the baking soda are too coarse and have stripped away my enamel! You can't get that back! Using baking soda to whiten teeth is ok occasionally but I started using this homemade toothpaste daily since the past year and now see my enamel has started to come off my teeth...be careful with the baking soda...
And add vitamin K2 (not just "K" nor K1") to your diet. K2 comes only from eating meat and dairy from livestock that are grass (not grain, nor just "vegetarian") fed. These animals' bodies (unlike humans') can convert the vitamin "K" or "K1" in green grass into K2, which is the only nutrient that directs calcium in the human body into bones (such as teeth), and to leave the joints and soft tissues such as breast (where calcium microcalcifications can lead to cancer), inner artery linings (where calcium compounds can combine with cholesterol to form plaque as a patch to prior free radical oxygen ion injury), blood vessel valves, muscles and so on, where calcium deposits can form hard deposits and disrupt function. Also, drinking daily a glass or two of water with a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar can in a week or few dissolve misplaced calcium deposits in the body (such as in bone spurs); and then the K2 can direct the dissolved calcium into the bones, such as teeth.
Sophie, I am very impressed with your video and the fact that you actually used the product right there at the end. You are very thorough & organized which kept your audience from having to watch a great deal of "nothing footage". Thank you for this. I am happy to share and like!
I have this recipe to which i add bentonite clay and plastic or wood utensils to mix. sometimes metals react with the ingredients rendering them ineffective. also as one commenter noted, diet plays a role.
Baking soda is too harsh for my super sensitive teeth. Could I replace it with bentonite clay or diatomaceous earth? Would either of these react with silver or metal fillings in the mouth
Great video, thanks! I would add magnesium powder to go with the calcium powder. Calcium by itself will not absorb into the bone. That is the job of magnesium. Coconut oil is great, but it turns solid when cold, and that can make the toothpaste hard. Powdered clove can be added for sensitive gums/teeth. It is also very anti-bacterial, so that's a plus.
Stand I agree, Magnesium is important, except its best absorbed interdermally, so my suggestion would be: get yourself some Mg Chloride, make Mg oil and spray on skin :) and use the above toothpaste to brush your teeth. Any toothpaste you make yourself is better than the shop bought one. I make mine mixing diatomaceous earth (food grade), coconut oil, peppermint essential oil and xylitol.
@@ellespooky3752 the thing no to do. If you have a lack of calcium or vitamin d, you need to correct them properly and not by adding these things in the toothpaste. As I said earlier, Carbonate calcium is used for its abrasive effects and that's all.
Powdered Horsetail herb has all kinds of silica in it, which is good for bones, teeth, skin, hair. How about putting some of that in there? It's all natural.
Great video. I am out of my Baking soda, coconut oil and peppermint tooth paste so I am glad I found this video. Can I use swerve or sweet drops instead of Xylitol ?
Hi About the 5 ingredients, can i only 3 of them instead of 5. As xylitol + spearmint essential oil, for smell & taste purpose. With only calcium carbonate + baking soda + coconut oil, will it defect remineralization purpose?
Hi, I've tried many of your recipes and really like a lot of them, thank you! I watched the one on brushing with charcoal, ordered it and started brushing my teeth with it. Then I came across some articles saying that charcoal can actually stain and discolour your teeth if you have crowns or bridges. Have you come across this before?
Hiya Sophie... just found your channel. Really loving all of your DIY videos. I follow this recipe exactly, but instead of just calcium carbonate, I buy the calcium & magnesium + Vitamin D3 capsules. Just open them up, measure them and add it that way. The magnesium is so very important for your teeth. Sometimes I'll also add some trace minerals for a little extra kick! Thanks so much for the video. I will never go back to using store bought toothpaste again. Much love! :)
I just discovered you today. What a joy you are to watch! I eat organically and am always looking for better options for everything I use - for my body and in my home. I'm going to have a great time looking over all of your videos to see what other topics you've covered. Thanks. [new subbie] :)
thnku vry mch for sooooooooo GREAT videos ..nd i find u so beautiful...ok i wanna knw tht how long we can keep this mixture nd do we hv to keep in refrigerator..or??
I read awhile back baking soda can be harsh on teeth and wear down the enamel over time. I use Vicco toothpaste and tooth powder, it's vegan and has all natural ayurvedic herbs. I'll add the calcium carbonate into the powder
You should be fine with regular coconut oil. Was is it the fridge? That would make it very hard. As I live in So Cal, my coconut oil is always soft. But if you live somewhere cool, it might actually be a good idea to use fractionated coconut oil. It will make it a lot more runny, but choose your evils!!!
New subscriber here! Is there an alternative oil you can use in this recipe? I am allergic to coconut oil, unfortunately. Also, I love you videos so far. They're very helpful and straight to the point! :)
you could substitute the coconut oil for seseme oil. It will likely give a thinner consistency but it's also remineralizing. you can use also use seseme oil for oil pulling. hope this helps.
I've never before made toothpaste because I'd never come across a recipe which appealed to me. This one does! May I ask how the toothpaste should be stored? Also, I'd like to know for how long it will keep. Thank you. ...
I am appalled I never answered this. If I am using within 3 months, I keep it in my bathroom cabinet. If I want to store it longer, I keep it in the fridge. So sorry for my horribly late reply!!!
Hi Sophie. I enjoy your videos and watching you on the Home and Family show. When I made this toothpaste it hardened so much that it is difficult to get on the toothbrush. Any suggestions?
Arrowroot power + kaolin/bentonite clay + calcium powder and cacao powder. (This one is the least abrasive, no enamel stripping and no coconut oil, no baking soda). Cacao and clay works as a cleansing tool, trace minerals as well
I bought a shop bought version or pretty much exactly the same ingredients (calc carb, bi-carb, spearmint oil, etc) as yours and I can't say that's it's helped with remineralising my teeth. I used to drink a lot of lemon water without a straw and this caused enamel erosion on my teeth. I had high hopes for this product for my teeth, but was quite disappointed as it did nothing for remineralising. On the plus side, it did help with reducing bleeding gums
hmmmm - it can't harm to use this. And I totally get the thing from lemon water. That is why you need to clean your teeth BEFORE drinking lemon water. Otherwise, the acid attaches to the bacteria on your mouth and on your teeth.
Nope, sori Sophie, the acid doesn't attach to teeth as much as it weakens the enamel, thus brushing after could take reduce enamel. And yes, it COULD really hurt to use your recipe for toothpaste after even a short while!! First, the essential oils and the coconut oil and the xylitol are well known to destabilise the good bacteria in your oral cavity. Definitely need them to protect from gum recession
HI Rob...do you mean the left over from the ingredients? well...the coconut oil lasts a very long time, as well as the calcium powder and the essential oil...so you just keep them for the next time you are making the toothpaste...I make this toothpaste for the whole family so every 2-3 weeks I am making another one...
Thanks so much for this recipe! What would you suggest for someone like me who has children and a husband who does not want to dip their toothbrush into the glass jar along with everyone else in the family? If I provide them with their own glass jar, that would be lots of jars. I appreciate your advice. Thanks!
read ur comments. so u recommend baking soda toothpaste one a week?? is the plain baking soda receipe or ur receipe with added baking soda ur talking about?
I find that carbonite is better for a toothpaste. I designed this recipe to be simple, so anyone could make it. If you want a more calcium-rich toothpaste, then by all means add some magnesium citrate.
Really cool. But just curious as to why we need to remineralise our teeth and with what exactly (as in what elements)? Have the products we been using over the years and the water we drink too abrasive/corrosive on our teeth?
Google ....what foods/ drinks break down the tooth enamel . Also just aging is wear and tear on your teeth , as well as using too hard of tooth brush bristles , and brushing to vigorously ( over doing it ).
Hello sophie! Is your toothpaste recipe abrasive to the teeth?? I'm currently using baking soda and coconut oil however it damaged my gum line and it made my teeth very sensitive so I'm looking for an alternative and I came across your recipe thank you!!
Sophie, I made it! And it's good. I'll get the hang of making it more perfect each time I make it. Thanks again for sharing this easy to follow recipe.
thank you darling! but can´t the particles from baking soda grand the protection layer from the teeth? like baking powder … it´s also not always the best decision in long term view, what you think?
Xylitol is good for the teeth, likely despite the feel. Compare it to Listerine or rubbing alcohol on a wound. I'm not a Dr. and I haven't done any tests, but I'm very sure that you should trust me.
As there is baking soda in this, should we use this daily or once a week? Baking Soda is said to make your teeth super sensetive so should we use it less often or would this mixture be the same as any toothpaste?
So i asked my dentist about toothpastes with baking soda. He said that the grains of it are too abrasive for our teeth & can break down enamel. Have you researched anything debunking his claim? Thanks!
Is there any alternative to xylitol powder? Something simple like honey or maple syrup or coconut sugar? Anything else? I don't have xylitol powder, I can't currently go anywhere to purchase such a thing and I can't afford to just buy it online, but I do have honey and coconut sugar. Would either of those two ingredients work?
Sophie Uliano oh really thats awesome. I only have erythirtol since it doesnt spike insulin like xylitol i was just wondering if it could be used instead of xylitol because if its sweet my son wont fuss
@@dojagrl209 it spikes insulin in animals which can cause death thats why some rat poisons have them but to humans it does nothing the only adverse effect is that if taken in large amounts it can cause gastrointestinal problems, diarrhe. But only if u consume in excess.. So dont worry its good for your teeth.🙂
you make brushing your teeth fun :) haha MY teeth are darker in the middle and my fang teeth feel like they have holes in them, this will restore? I smoke for medicinal purposes and recently changed my died, no meat or eggs since sep. 7 2016 and I been working out like an animal.... I need to keep my teeth, I had a couple back ones break and got 3 pulled from smoking and eating candy at night and sleeping lol but my front ones compliment my face haha
SOOOO, my husband and I were doing the GAPS diet and we read in one of the many books that Xylitol is found in rat poison...I could be wrong but it said something about it being derived from some nasty things??? What so you know about it and have you heard of this before? Thank you Sophie!!!
hi dear I have coconut oil, bentonite clay, calcium magnesium and vitamin d tablet and clove oil can I make toothpaste with this items , is this will help me for teeth remineralization
Thank you but I don't have xylitol and spearmint oil, can I skip that and I viewed one of the comments below this video, she commented she used a calcium-magnesium tablet instead of calcium carbonate and you agreed with that comment .i am very happy after viewing this video but I am confused that's why I am asking about this again, sorry for inconvenience.i don't have any aother source for asking about it
So remineralizing will rebuild the enamel I've worn off by aggressive brushing? My teeth are super sensitive....Also, do we not need fluoride? I build tartar also.....ugh. I would love to try this ~ thx
Will help for sure. Fluoride is controversial - if you do use it, it's best to use as a paste, which you smear onto areas that have worn down. You have to get this from the dentist.
Fluoride it a neural toxin and is poison. The stuff that is in everything is a chemical byproduct from fertilizer companies. In its concentrated form, like when they are adding it to the water supply, will eat concrete and requires a hazmat cleanup. Avoid at all costs.
My teeth are super sensitive due to thinning enamel. I have been using a prescription, fluoride toothpaste for years and want to get away from that and move toward a natural toothpaste. Can anyone recommend something other than baking soda that won’t cause sensitivity? I have heard of bentonite clay, but I don’t know if it will work and I’m scared to try without knowledge from someone who has used it or knows of something better.
My husband made some homemade toothpaste a bit like this recently. He used finely ground eggshell in it which is amazing for teeth. My son began using it and almost instantly there was visible improvement! Seriously this is amazing stuff!! It begins its work straight away. Full remineralisation probably takes quite a while so the sooner you begin this the better.
