This happens a lot in homes that dont have insulation between the sheetrock and the outer wall usually cinder block.

Hey Scott I enjoy all your videos, it has helped me out in a lot of ways as a DIY home owner. There's always something to fix around here, But I wonder have you made a video on tool pouches? like you more or less carry in them, like every day tool or in your electrician pouch. I know it's a preference to each individual, so I could have a better idea, maybe I might have miss that video.

Thanks for the support! I did this one a year or so back ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kGvt75z3MPk.html this will more focus on the actual tool belt but you will see my standard setup. I think I will do a video diving a deeper on my setup including my Milwaukee Packout setup.

I have this exact problem as living in earthquake country, the building has been known to move around and crack things. I had thought about repairs and what you did was pretty obvious. My problem though which you ignored is the texture of the surface. Like many walls, the texture is a spray-on Spackle texture. That is the hard part. It seems to me that I will need a sprayer of some kind and the talent to match the texture pattern so that the repair matches the surrounding wall. Maybe I missed it, but I searched your page and didn't see that addressed.

3M also has a similar product for larger holes that has fiberglass in it. It works really well for toggle bolt size holes that regular spackle tends to fall out of.

Replacing those nails with drywall screws during the original repair could have prevented the second repair!

I am questioning now when the painter patched it if he added a nail or not. Now I think he just cut out the nail pop and filled it. Not surprising it came right back 🤦‍♂️

is this 3m material better than using mud? what would be the reasoning to choose this over mud which is the standard product people use on drywall?

I don’t know about that spackle. But it appears to me one would be better served spending another 5 bucks on a proper putty knife and a foam sanding block.

Interesting…I’ve never heard of doing this with regular spackle….I’ve always used quick set and all purpose mud. Make sure you do a follow up video in a year to show us what happens….

I love these videos, but always leaves me thinking the million dollar question is what about the paint step? When the previous owner didn't leave the brand and color of paint, and you don't want to repaint the entire wall just because of a small fix, what are you supposed to do???

you can cut a 2" piece out of the existing wall colour just the depth of the drywall paper. careful not to let it crack when you take it off. A good paint store may be able to colour match. However if it is old paint it may still show and you will also have to repair the patch. Get the colour match and paint the whole wall and even if the match is a bit off you won't likely notice it if you do the whole wall.
