I liked the tip with the grinder to make those short pipes fit enough to weld. Came out great, I wanted to put a rack on my topper but I didn't think it was strong enough. Can't wait to see the front one.

Nice build. I am not sure why you wouldn't want it directly on top of the original roof rack though, that would literally double it's strength. As it is it's only as strong as the conduit clamps, which is to say not very strong.

How did you bend the tubes without getting a kink in the inside radius. I made an engine cage for my vw beach buggy using galvanized conduit. Looks pretty getto. Also I wasn't sure if the welds were very strong with all the galvanized contamination, even though I flap wheeled most of the coating off, the welds still bubbled. Nice video 👍

Seems like it would of been quicker to notch the small pipes instead of grinding them. But looks good either way.

very cool! is there any sag in the middle or that "chicken lathe" when you load it up? my concern would be the stress on the welds when theres a little weight in the middle of the rack.

Im all for DIY i do alot of it, but you can buy better ones for $100 on amazon... not even worth the time to do this. But thats just me
