Here is the second part of the budget RTT build. Its coming along nicely and all that needs to be done is the canvas sewing! Part 3 should pretty much be the finished product. Bear with me on the sewing, I probably wont show much of it since I am a complete novice.

Nice looking build! Nice to see what a plywood roof looks like instead of my cloroplast one. I like the inner lip you added to the inside of the bottom box which the canvas is attached to. If you add the bungee it will pull the fabric in when you close the tent.

@@leeneeslynys774 that would be awesome! How much do you think that would weigh?

If you mounted the side clasps at an angle so they pulled the top towards the hinge it would offset the force created by the gas shocks and not warp the hinge.

I wonder how red cedar studs would work on this project. Would probably lighten it up significantly. We just screened in our patio with red cedar studs. I didn’t realize how much lighter cedar is
@evansautomotive307
@evansautomotive307 2 года назад
It would probably work well! Cedar is also more weather resistant so that is also a plus. Thanks for watching!

Have you had this on your car for a long time now? Have you had problems with the wood rotting?

Its actually held up fairly well. Had to touch up some spots with more bedliner but other than that its been good!

I'm currently making one that folds to go uptop of my Toyota Camper Van. It's a LOT lighter doing what I'm doing. (On my channel)

Nice! My goals for this build was to keep cost down as well as keep it as thin as i could. Weight wasnt a huge factor since I already knew wood would weigh a bit more than aluminum. The next time i do this it will definitely be made of aluminum.

Putting s Z channel all the way around will make a drip edge to keep water out and if you painted it white it wouldn't be an oven
@evansautomotive307
@evansautomotive307 2 года назад
The lip all the way around has kept water out very well. And with insulation it has been pretty good at keeping heat out, or in. But i am sure white would be a much better starting point! Thanks for watching!

Lol, just going to say it! Weird watching this again reflecting on years ago! Not even close to being the same time and when people work with products and fast drying material! Not even the same as another persons application! Some things arn't even worth the depth when you remember just watching videos to appreate the work in hopes to learn somthing! Funny

It's not, I'm 5'10 and I fit fine in there. Maybe if you're 6'5 or something but it's easy to make bigger and customize it for your needs. Thanks for watching
