I have a pretty good tip for anyone with a sandblasting cabinet...Whatever you use for a window will quickly get etched to the point you can't see through it by whatever abrasive you are using. The trick to keeping your window clear is to get a roll of Overhead Projector Film and use it as a sacrificial layer between your window and the cabinet. A 50ft roll cost about $14 and will last many years depending how often you use cabinet.

thank you for the advice. I decided to use a rubber magnet to fix the transparent film.

My idea was to use some clear cellophane packing tape, but transparency sheets for ohp works well too! My reasoning for the tape was that the gooey adhesive would act as a roughness/void filler in those plastic storage containers to make the container more transparent (like spraying a clear coat on plastic sanded to a high grit)

I got four rolls of clear tinting film I found at a market cheap, cut a section and stick it on with water under it and squeegee the water out the water lets you line it up before the glue sticks , works fantastic and this film seems to last a long time. oh the glue is more like a static glue like the film on your mobile phone when you buy it, just peels off.

Very nice video! What a bliss it is to hear only the tools and the action, and no music. Great workmanship, too! Absolutely inspiring! I worked with sandblasting once. Semi industrial - much larger cabins, of course, with real sand and with more pressure. We blasted glass as well as metal, wood, and plastic. Our cabins were totally covered on the inside in large rubber sheets, since that is the only thing that will withstand the blast when running it regularly. With the lower pressure and less work load you probably will not have the problem, otherwise that would be an idea. I would also consider painting the metal grid with silicone rubber.

He's on his own level of craftsmanship - he's the JSK-koubou of self-made tools. It all seems so straightforward and logical when he builds something, but if I tried it I'd get little details all wrong and it wouldn't quite fit together correctly.

I made a couple tubes with tiny holes blowing down across the glass to slow the impact of sand hitting the view screen, I change it half as much now! Lining the box with sheet steel will help with the erosion of the wood inside on the heavily impacted areas too .Good job on the build.

A very nice build of a media-blasting cabinet. All the ones I've seen have been metal and required a grounding strap due to the build up of static charge between the beads of media. You can get quite a shock while removing your hands from the gloves. Your choice of wood to construct your cabinet from eliminates this small hazard quite effectively. Great design and construction in this video!

Ledges in the cabinet including around the window collects grit. Large chamfers and sealed end grain helps shed grit. Have changeable bottom buckets for different grits and a vacuum port/hose in the cabinet for cleaning prior to grit change. Also cover the glass and light cover with low tack car window tint. All these helped my cabinet run smoothly, hope yours does as well.

Without words ... literally without words ... It may also be because I speak as a non-expert, but ... on the one hand the possibility of building a sandblaster by yourself, on the other hand to see that for someone (but not for myself🤣😤 ) is it possible to work with such cleanliness and precision, it literally disarms me ... But it gives me hope that if possible for someone else ... in this case for you ... it will also be possible for someone like me ... with SOOOOO commitmentOO ... but it will also be possible for me ... Thank you for the great inspiration you give me with all your works ... You are really great ...👏👏👏🎩🎩🎩

If you use a magnet before a plastic bottle it will help clean the sand from rust and iron (magnetic) particles even before they will fall down the bottle. Even place magnet outside plywood.

@rhiannemoll3386
@rhiannemoll3386 3 года назад
Just be aware that Ferric Oxide (Fe2O3), what we call red rust, only very very weakly magnetic and magnet traps don't work on it. The black form, Ferrous Oxide (Fe3O4) is slightly magnetic and you will catch some of it. Mostly, though, magnet traps are a panacea.

Great build, not sure I would trust the plastic pressure tank over time or if it was placed near an area with uv light. I built one similar 25 yrs ago, painted the inside of mine white, cut a slot on top and added a clear plastic panel & florescent light on top. I later added 1/8" white Plexiglas to the back wall as it was getting ate up by the sand, this helped as the sand will frost it but just bounces off and still reflex light. Also exhaust your cabinet to the outside as silicosis is real.

You are right. What he has there is a time bomb. It may not go off for a year, it may not go off i 5 years,,,,but if you waite long enough it WILL explode,,,,And PVC bombs are fragmentation anti-personnel types types, and a canister of air at 150 PSI has enough umph to blow that sand blaster, and anybody standing on front of it through a wall. ,,,, but hey, It's hos ass, I do recommend that no one visit his shop, though.

You've just blown my mind buddy lol. Did I just watch you build your own high pressure compressor? Lol that makes so much sense how it worked. The only thing I can believe you didn't do was put a rip off film on the back side of the glass. Like a clear tint style. It's damn sure easier and cheaper than replacing the glass. Think like a race biker with vizier rips. I love the custom builds in your work shop. Great job!

Some years ago I bought a used steel blast cabinet. The price was a steal but the thing is black, a patently stupid color for a device that relies on good lighting so you can see what you are doing. I painted the interior white. After seeing the erosion of the white paint after minimal use of the cabinet I highly recommend lining a design like this with sheet aluminum. You will be through that wood in no time with heavy use.
