Impressive. Regular kitchen film with some holes might be better separator cause it's thinner. Paper always contains some acid, so it also slightly obscures the testing.

Wow! Very nice! I was thinking about carbon felt for some time XD What I was thinking about: - usage of carbon felt as an electrode by itself, who needs graphite plate? this way it should be nicer to self-recharge- one of water in salt electrolytes, so it won't dry out at all - not impregnated but making prussian blue inside carbon felt, soaking in solution A, maybe drying and then soaking in solution B, so prussian blue would be more adhered in structure of felt Of course other metals could be tested also

That way the carbon felt was made in the first video. First soaking the felt into solution A and the in the solution B

@@cayrex yeah, but i was thinking about drying it inbetween, so it would have less of free, not adhered PB but more of "coated carbon surface", do not know if it would be beneficial And what exactly is problem with cycles? some PB decomposition?

@@ejkozan Yes it was dryed. In video I only show a fast process. Hmm, the cycles yes,... PB, aluminium,...!?

I love the update but I can’t hear well what you said. I know you made the Prussian blue 2 different ways (sulfate and chloride) but was it ferric or ferrous? Can yiu provide the chemical formulae to avoid confusion please?

try other metals instead of aluminum, try lead, or make it in a dual carbon configuration, also try a different electrolyte too if possible, maybe alum, or epsom salt or other easy to get a hold of materials. I'm no battery or chemistry expert but the limited charging seems to be due to a blocking of the metal current collector or breakdown of the electrolyte. especially the potassium chloride, the chloride seems to be turning into chlorine gas and going away in the air. you'd need a compound that doesnt turn into a gas with electrolysis. which occurs during charging.

Then you have prussian - zinc battery :) The prussian bule is in research for cathode material in zinc ion and also for sodium ion batteries for some time now. But non of that will self recharge - you will need a input of electricity

@@cayrex yes, but prussian blue is just basically a compound of iron and cyanide, cyanide as far as i know is poisonous, i wouldn't want to end up exposed to cyanide gas, be careful. personally i prefer safer compounds that dont out-gas when electrolysed such as metal based phosphates and sulfates. also (a video idea) if you want a self charging battery you should look into making a electret.

@@jr-pl9kj Ferrocyanide salts are not toxic and are commonly used as dyes, hence the name Prussian blue.

@@evanriddle1614 if you want a zinc battery soo bad go buy a Duracell or a dollar store brand battery, its much easier to buy pre-made then to make at home.

Isn't there a potential between aluminum and carbon even without the Prussian blue?

Of course it is. But the voltage difference is still noticeable between the different prussian blue no matter if use carbon or ito on both cells.

@@cayrex you wouldn't happen to know off hand the name of that cyano (cyanate vs cyanide) + iron compound that's also blue? Does it work with that? And if not, can it be electrolyticaly reduced to Prussian blue to do so? I'd look it up if I knew the name of what I'm looking for....

There is Prussian blue, of course. There is Prussian white (here with potassium ions but usually sodium) which is discharged blue. There is Prussian green (aka berlin green) which is ‘overcharged blue’. There is also Prussian yellow and Prussian red. But maybe you are thinking of Turnbull’s blue which related but more of a blue-green color.

I guess this qualifies as a metal air battery. The salt has no other option but to dissolve the aluminum eventually.

Yes and no. You need air if you want the cell to "self charge". But you can seal the cell and then charge it by applying electricity.

@cayrex from what little I've learned the salt does not go anywhere but the water does. (Try adding a little water) I'm using prussian blue watercolor now but ordered recommended iron chloride recipe. The limited cycle life may be due to aluminum oxide forming. Gum Arabic helps keep the oxide from forming on the aluminum. Just an idea. Thank you!

It takes this battery that I expected from cayrex, modifies it to 2-3k cycles and turns it into a flow battery. 50-60 cycles will not satisfy us :)

I think that this will be much harder to do. But look from the other, that tech can replace not rechargeable AA-AAA bateries.

@@cayrex I saw this on Robert's channel too. He shared the link to that article. According to what I've read, this battery is not exactly a solar battery or exactly an air battery. It needs both sunlight and oxygen. This probably causes electrolyte loss and causes it to remain in the 50-60 cycle.

This battery will not succeed because the acid attacks the aluminum and melts it_Lithium battery liquid is best, but I don't know how to make it_The liquid in a lithium battery does not attack copper and phosphorus
