I am a research, innovator and enthusiast in field of batteries, supercapacitors, special paints, 3D printing and much more. In particular, my main research is focused on development of so called next gen battery which will fill the place between lead acid and lithium ion battery, with safe and robust battery chemistry systems for green electrified tomorrow.🥼🥽🔬🧪⚗
I am not willing to watch this past the first test with the ohm meter. You had the probes less than 2mm apart. Test conductivity across the swatch. Useless info!
This will more depend on the chemistry which you will use. The membrane is only one part of which determines the number of cycles. Because for example,... you can get to 1000 cycles also with paper separator.
Have you tried using a very thin film of regular LDPE as a membrane? I recently saw some experiments where it seems to allow ion exchange. Not in the setting of a galvanic cell, but I dont see why it wouldnt work for that also. Looking up some data on the porosity and pore sizes it seems quite plausible. I'm a complete newbie to electrochemistry though, so I might just be missing something obvious that makes it unsuitable.
Great video as always 😀 Love your content. Can you please tell more about how much power is consumed by the pump and how much power is generated by the flow battery? Does battery generate more electricity than pump consumes? Once batter is working, can we switch electricity source for the pump from mains to battery?
If one cell will run a pump then the flow will be really slow. Because here I use 3 volt pump and one cell will have the voltage of 1.4V. For that reason you will need more cells connected together. The same way also work other flow batteries.
@@cayrex Thanks for quick reply. I was wondering if we can scale this system to run a electric hatch back car using this flow battery and how big the battery should be to run a car on it.
@@chandrashekharkotekar3478 In basic, this will not be a first time that some aluminium air battery will run a car. Good know is Israeli Al-air battery company Phinergy which put 100kg battery into the car. That Al battery in this video is almost the "same",.... but with a difference that this one is in a flow version which pump the electrolyte in and out when is needed.
A pottery trick for rolling out flat sections is to put down two pieces of wood that are the desired thickness on either side of the clay, then roll the clay. The wood supports the rolling pin and sets the thickness.
Yes nice,... Is almost the same like we apply a electrode material for thin film electrodes. Which in that case have the thickness in the range of 0.1 to 0.2mm
Great work dear ❤ You should make a video about polymer membrane I tried to do this with cellulose acetate but I wasnt successful and i dont know what went wrong.
Less serious? I show easy process which can be done with easy and inexpensive materials to make a clay membrane. Many people was asking me for that video where I make a clay membrane,.... so I dont think that the music will disturb them. But I know that some people dont like music in the videos,... others again will complain, why you dont use some background music, etc. So in the end, I also respect your opinion sir.
Maybe you can put something on each side that is thinner, like 1mm thick spacer that the roller rolls on top of? Maybe then you can get even higher energy density... ? Not sure how that well work.
Is the battery powering the pumps? Could you get the electrolite to flow with gravity and pressure? Say, like a heron fountan times to complete its cycle at the same time the electrolite is finished? Or using RMS's 4 chamber on and just flip it every now and then.
Love <3 your videos! Tho what about the amperage, can you please please make a video for high amperage AND high voltage Al-Air. It seems like when I add activated carbon the amperage raise up only a little, when I add mno2, the voltage increase up a lot, so I dont use activated carbon, I just use Mno2, and I get AMAZING VOLTAGE of 2.7!!! how ever the amperage is only around 100ma for 3-4 cm2 🌝
Espectacular todos tus vídeos.. Felicidades te animo a que sigas con el mismo ímpetu. Muy interesante lo del doble electrolito.. Has obtenido un voltage interesante me gustaría saber cual es su corriente... Saludos cordiales.
Nice content! How much current can a single cell give? I'm trying to make this cell for a project and I'm worried about current. A single Li-ion cell gives around 3A as the max discharge current. Also, the current depends directly on the surface area? Finally, could the graphite plate be replaced with a stainless steel mesh? Does it affect the oxigen difusion through the cell? Hope u can help me with those questions. I follow ur content and its really helpful as well as interesting!
The current will depending on the amount, type and surface area of the active material. Yes you can use SS mesh,... but this will only effect the voltage a little bit.
have you ever submerged crushed aluminium foil into concentrated koh water. it goes hydrogen poof instantly. koh is not actually suitable for high surface area aluminium-air battery. koh might be fine for thick block plate aluminium-air battery. try baking soda instead. for single electrolyte aluminium air battery. baking soda is dirt cheap, if using bags of soda blasting media. how about baking soda vinegar dual electrolyte cell. yep vinegar with baking soda will produce tons of co2 if the are mixed. a ceramic tile would work also for the membrane. also the baking soda will remove the oxidation layer from the aluminium. ceramic membrane is just a porous glass fiber separator. how about a gravity cell, where top electrolyte is koh and bottom one is h2so4. well requires electrolytes that dont react acid-base. sometimes is not worth the hassle to have two electrolytes when they make the flooded cell structure way more complex.
Uuuuu for sure,... I run hydrogen fuel cells with aluminium. Yes baking soda can work and can be used in the cell, but can also limit the performance of the cell (comperisong to the KOH cell). But In most cases when is used KOH or NaOH electrolyte some alloys of aluminium and tin or others are used for the anode. In the end,.... you have tons of combination which can be used as a cell.
The shelf life of the aluminium battery without corrosion inhibitor will be short. If the aluminium is mechanically removed then the shelf life much more extended. Or if you use a zinc version of that battery then the shelf life will be also better.
I didn't know what "dual electrolyte" meant. Now I've learned it's acid/alkaline. Any combination possible. Now I hear an aluminum/iron combo. What??? That makes thermite!!! Just more click bait I found on RU-vid. You're awesome. Thanks.
So, an aluminum air battery could be modified by using Nacl and "charged" converting NaCl into its constituent chemicals. Two problems: hcl and chlorine gas. They could be engineered to mitigate but always present and a risk. Thanks again.
I've taken my jar lid aluminum air battery and used saltwater. It recharges again and again. Used coffee filter, wax paper and pva and heat pressed it. Works a little longer. I had a good battery day. Thanks
Hey thanks for showing very unique method for welding these materials together. May I find out where get a hold of just the felt . Is this the PAN fiber carbon felt, or rayon based.
