@@mssamandsarah The problem is, that Lush isn't fully vegan. Their products include parabens and sulphates, for example. So.. they are not a good option if you want to have a shampoo etc. that's all natural. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah right ?? I was litterally like that defeats the purpose of the shampoo bar for a less harsh soap and most conditioner bars I use make me greasy or actually dry out my hair

Onyx Angel this is made with soap base. It’s not good for your hair. It will severely damage it. Spend a little more on some good shampoo or a proper shampoo bar and only use it on your scalp. The water will wash the suds down the rest of your hair and wash it on it’s way to the drain.

Onyx Angel I’m sorry, I’m not quite understanding. If the soap bar has got lye or soap as an ingredient then it isn’t good. You don’t need a lot of shampoo to wash your hair. Rub the bar once over onto your scalp and that’s all you need to use. A shampoo bar could last weeks/months. You also don’t need to wash your hair everyday. Every 3-7 is quite fine.

Usually its just glycerin based soap that you melt down at home. Pure glycerin is different, it wouldn't lather.

Joanna Steffel I'm pretty sure you can find all the ingredients at zero-waste stores where they store them in large glass containers. Maybe the essential oils (which are optional and last a very long time)

You are right, and now you see the problem with a lot of this "green" companies. They just repackage things into a prettier package to fool the public into thinking they are better. You can absolutely make soap and shampoo 100% natural with no plastic packages. But you need to do it from scratch with whatever plant is avaialble in your climate. Sunflowers are a very easy one.

You can most definitely use essential oils for the scent, though it might be wise to read up on the properties of your chosen essential oils. Mind you even if an essential oil you like says it's specifically good for oily hair, and your hair is dry, it shouldn't hurt your hair to use it anyway.

You can find all the ingredients online, I shop at Akoma and A romantic which carries most ingredients.

A soap base is a special soap that can be anything. You can use this soap as a base to make diy hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, even face cleansers etc...

Karianne Brown how much do you use per batch? Does it last a long time? Would the other ones in the range also work (the oatmeal and shea butter one sounds great) for shampoo etc? Sorry for the inquisition lol I’ve never done this before.

Yeah. They look like from those treats my family puts on the table sometimes for us to eat during the Eid Mubarak thing but this doesn't happen EVERY year. Sometimes they do different stuff but this just reminds me of those treats :)

The shampoo/conditioner bars tend to last longer, so there is less waste.

If you can’t get the ingredients at zero waste stores you can usually get them in recyclable packaging or you can reuse the containers for other things like storing pencils, storing jewellery, making arts and crafts or transporting goods to and from zero waste stores instead of taking heavy glass jars etc. The fact that you can make several bars (all of which last longer than a bottle of shampoo or conditioner) in one go means these will last a hell of a lot longer, so a few packets and bottles you can reuse or recycle are definitely preferable to a ton of shampoo bottles.

And Lush’s bars contain SLS’s. Homemade soap is much better for the environment and healthier for the hair and skin. (Although a melt and pour base was used here, I make my own from scratch.)

Soap bases are made of saponified oils, now if you look up natural non-surfactant based shampoo bars, they're made of the same thing, saponofied oils. Also known as soap. It is perfectly good to use on hair, I should know, I wash my hair with homemade shampoo bars which is cold process soap.

Just fyi oil dissolves dirt and grease, and the addition of a soap base in the shampoo bar will then dissolve the added oil containing the dirt and grease washing it away. As for the conditioner bar, the emulsifying wax, in this case BTMS 50, makes the oil emulsify into the water when you rinse it out, leaving your hair not only soft and detangled, but also clean.

On the contrary, these options are much better for the hair than conventional shampoo and conditioners for the simple reason that they contain neither sulphates nor silicones. Sulphates strips the hair of it's natural oils and then some, leaving it dry and unprotected, then when you use a conventional conditioner to fix that you plop on a layer of silicone that coats the hair strand not allowing it to absorb moisture, making your hair even dryer. That being said conditioner bars like the one in the video should really have the addition of a broad spectrum preservative as water means germs, and you don't want your conditioner growing mold.
