I forgot to say THANKS for the zest idea. I just made your pine tar recipe( which is lovely) and I used lime and tea tree EO in it and almost a week later my tiny house still has that nice smell in it from the curing soap, anyway the next time I make pine tar I’ll add Lime zest too! You’ve opened up a whole new zesty world for me😉
Hello I would love to use some of this soap I alway watch Mrs Brenda and her skin looks so fresh and clean and pretty I hope my daughter can find it I really would like to use this soap thank you lady who made that Beautiful Bastard pray that winit for Mother Day
After watching your videos I have finally gathered the courage to make my very first loaf of soap. I picked this one to start yesterday and it was really difficult to wait 24 hours. I'm glad I did: it turned out beautifully: the colour is uniform, the smell is very light as I didn't use essential oils but still lovely. The only problem I had was that it didn't fill my mould. After checking I found that it's because the ingredients add up to 1038g but I used a 1200g mould like in the video. I will have to adapt the quantities for next time (I've seen you made a very clear video for that) but, in the meantime, I'm extatic. Thank you so much for making your videos so simple to follow. :-)
Hi, I just watched your video because I made Sweet Orange soap yesterday which used orange zest and Orange 10X EO. It’s a CP recipe but the soap is put in the refrigerator for 24-48 before unmolding which I have never previously done. I checked this morning, and it is still very soft. I was disappointed ☹️. I am going to try your recipe which recipe is normally how I make CP soaps. I love the smell of orange, and your bars came out a beautiful hue and speckled 👍🏻
I’m so glad you used ingredients from scratch. Now I don’t have to buy orange zest powder because you taught me how to do mine 😊 so glad to find your channel.
Thank you Elly… i just made my first batch of Orange zest from my organic oranges, mandatins & lemon. Such a citrus blast. I used my ninja too to grind it up. Im an Aussie living in Corinth Greece now. Thank you for inspiring me with your tutorials. You’re amazing 👍🏼
How was the scent of the Lime Soap? Mild/Strong? - I've used Lime Essential Oil for my Melt & Pour and would love to have this natural ingredient in my soap. Will it exfoliate?
Robert Duran Hey Robert! I used Elly’s gorgeous recipe along with Trisha’s lime zest tip recently - thank you both so much, Elly ❤️ and Trisha 🥰 - and the soap is definitely exfoliating. Mine smells clean but the lime zest fragrance didn’t come through in mine unfortunately. But the soap is gorgeous - love your recipe, Elly 🥰 - and I’m going to make another batch without the zest and with Lime-Litsea essential oil fragrances. LOVE your channel and you, Elly! Thank you so much. ❤️
Hey Elly! I made this soap yesterday with calendula infused olive oil and it turned out perfect!!! I`m so glad I found you as you gave me the courage to start making my own soaps - I have skin issues and am trying to avoid all store bought cosmetics, cleaning products etc. I also made your laundry soap and am so grateful! It cleans good and leaves everything nice and soft. Thank you and God bless you!
When you first unmolded the soap I saw your pot holder on the bottom and thought at first you'd had a volcano or something! Looks great! I go through lots of lemons and limes so I'll try this with those.
I have made soap several times and recently tried hot process in a crockpot. I wasn't really fond of the hot process method. I have never understood the the approach to the calculator until watching your video. I do not understand why I have never found you in my search for soap making videos! I also love bread making and have never tackled sourdough for fear of the starter. I will be trying yours. Thank you for your gift of teaching.
You're most welcome Nancy. My channel isn't very well known yet but I think more people are finding me. It grows slowly but steadily. I'm not on many soap groups or anything so I don't get much of a chance to share my videos there. If you are able to and want to share my links please feel free to do so!
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking yes, I have a sister-in-law who lives in Toowoomba I was going to share with as well as a granddaughter who lives in the US. Much success to you.
I grew up on an orange grove. My mom decided one day we could get rich selling the zest. We zested about 1000 oranges for her one night. We laid it all out on our trampoline to dry, the next morning we could not walk outside. Hahahahah our entire back yard was thick with nats 😂😂😂
Hello Elly. I used an online soap calculator. I had 610 g of oils/butters, water 181g and a.soda 75g. I put olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, shea butter, castor oil and sweet almond oil.
I love simple soaps the best and love using orange peel powder that I have made myself. so satisying! Ihave just dried some lemon peel and look forward to using it in soap.
This looks really loverly Elly..I have made 3 soaps so far after watching your tutorials..the 1st one was an utter disaster I was so anxious that I forgot to let the lye solution cool down and put it straight in and of course it seized.. but then I made pine tar soap and yesterday I made 100% coconut soap which is gorgeous next Im going to make Soleseife (German Brine )Salt soap..Im having so much fun making these all because YOU gave me the confidence to TRY IT..so thankyou Elly..just one problem...ITS HARD TO WAIT FOR CURE..lol
Thank you so much Roslyn! I'm so glad you're really getting into your soap making and that I was able to help you! That really makes my day :) I love the sound of the coal tar soap. I've never made it but it makes me think of my Dad. He used to use it when I was a kid :)
@@rosemariedungo2336 Are you in Brisbane AU I bought my lye from Coles supermarket..its in the cleaning section where you buy drain cleaner..its called "White Tulip Caustic Soda" in a white container with a red top/lid..hope it helps
Hi Ellie... I love this simple soap and the recipe also seems great. Looking forward to trying it with some 5 or 10x orange essential oils, maybe even a touch of grapefruit and lavender. It looks great, love that the peel seems to keep its colour rather than turning slightly brown. Thanks so much for sharing this!
You're welcome Patrick! I love your essential oil choices, I have tenfold orange which is fantastic, unfortunately grapefruit doesn't seem to last well in soap. Lavender would be nice. Litsea cubea or lemon myrtle would also go well with the orange if you want to stick to citrus scents.
beautifully explained whenever I start my morning studies I find I'm not sleeping anymore and listening and watching ur videos 😍🤗 the way ur teaching is always awesome ❤
I can't believe I haven't seen your channel before. I'm so glad I found it. I love making soap with natural ingredients like the orange. Really lovely soap. Thank you SO much for sharing this video.
@@أمةالرحمنموسى Yes you do, and sodium hydroxide IS natural, it's made from salt and water. It is what saponifies the oil (converts it from oil to hard soap). Soft/liquid soap requires potassium hydroxide (a different form of lye made from ash and water). Once the soap is cured, no lye (nor water, nor oil unless you've superfatted) remains.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking Elly, could you add an essential oil to this recipe as well? I'm gearing up to make my first batch of soaps and I think I'd like to try this recipe for my first time.. Thank you for the videos! Keep them coming!
Hi Elly, I tried this, I love the result, is moisturising and lather well, and love the orange smell (I added sweet orange EO) . This is first time I use castor oil in soap making, the soap feel a bit sticky when unmould, I thought my orange peel not dried properly but after cured for a few days, no more stickiness. I am so happy with the result, just want to share with you. Thanks 😊
Hi, thank you that's great to hear! Yes, the castor oil is lovely but can be sticky if too much is used. This recipe has a nice balance. Thanks for sharing with me :)
Hi Elly, thank you so much for sharing your soap recipes! I have done the castile soap (amazing) and I just made the orange zest soap, it is lovely and it smells so good. I didn't have castor oil, so my soap has only coconut and olive oil. It cracked a little bit while I was cutting but should be fine ;) I love your videos. Greetings from Brazil!
your method seems very nice and not complicated! love the fact that you used natural ingredients and orange zest, I bet it smells devine! you gained a new subscriber!
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking you are the best teacher i ever seen and i want to be a good soap maker with your videos...thank you so much :) i am from iran and i am a fan of you
Thanks for sharing the art of making these devine soaps. BTW I have 6 lemon trees in my backyard and going to try to make some soap with the zest. Love your videos greetings from South Africa 😊
I really enjoyed the way you made your soap , beautiful. I want to start my journey into soap making, and I loved your video. Thank you for sharing you recipie!
please start...I did a week ago using Elly's fantastic video and recipe to guide me...it turned our beautiful and I tried it out tonight, lovely lather and it is moisturising and the bar is nice and firm without being uncomfortable. I will leave the other bars to cure for another 4 weeks though...I was eager to try and my husband is impressed ;-) Have fun!
The music was cute when you were chopping those bars and I loved 'a few oranges later' 😊 I'm from your sourdough fan club and have never thought of making soap in my life. You make everything look so satisfying - I think I might have to give it a go! I just know I'll enjoy whatever video you make, and I do 👍🏻
It depends on the oils you are using. If you're using solid oils and waxes, they need to be heated and melted first before you can make the soap. If you're using soft oils, there's not need to heat :)
Hi Elly, I have been watching all your soap recipes and loving them. You make it so simple and lovely. I have recently started soap making and your videos are the best for me as a beginner as most of the ingredients are readily available. Have tried your 100% coconut oil, aloe and most recently the orange zest. All of them came out really well. Hope to see more videos..!! 😊
Hmmm... I zested lemon peel with a shredder and put it right into my soap. The lye beat up on the fresh zest and dissolved a lot of it, but after it turned the soap a wonderful yellow there were still plenty of recognizable particles left. I have had trouble with the citrus essential oils keeping the soap scented for a long time, so I used lemon grass instead of lemon. I might just whip up a batch of orange like this though!
Ah yes, the citrus oils are fleeting in cold process soap. If I want a good strong orange scent that will last I use tenfold orange essential oil - often labelled Orange Essential Oil 10X. I love lemongrass too, and lemon myrtle is another great one that lasts!
Hi everyone, I've just uploaded a video review of this soap recipe! The soap has been curing now for 15 months, and it's lovely! Hope you enjoy the review :) SOAP REVIEW: Orange Zest Cold Process Soap (after 15 month cure) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ap_QGTTtoJo.html
Thank you for sharing looking forward to making some later this week, just wondering if I could make the same out of Limes or is it too acid thanks so much
Really enjoying the music too! Great video, I may just make this as my first soap! I don't like the taste of oranges, but I love the scent! Also liked the tutorial for beginners video, very informative and straight forward. Thanks (:
Such a hypnotically engaging video!. I can almost smell the citrus! Great use for your bullet blender too. Could you perhaps show us how well they lather up, as well one day?
Thank you Kim, I'll think more on that. The music I used was from the free music in the youtube music library. It was free to use without any attributions.
Gorgeous exfoliating soap Elly. I love that the oranges came from your backyard tree. It reminds me of when I last visited my daughter in Perth. I picked some lemons from her tree to make lemon curd. Yummy! 😊

You're welcome! Orange zest goes really well in an Eastern European style spiced rye sourdough bread - but that''s a whole other video! One for the list ;)
I just found your channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I love your soap making techniques; natural ingredients and so simple. I am now binge watching!
I can't believe I missed your videos when I fully were into soap making. You made it looks so easy and the final result was net and beauty. Thanks for sharing 💕 Can I add an escential oil?
I made soap today for the first time. Loving it already. I will be trying your orange soap recipe. I have a big bag of oranges in the refrigerator. The peelings will not go to waste. Thank you!
dear elly, thank you for making your own zest and showing us how easy it can be to create as much as possible instead of purchasing yet another product. and the music is divine!
Dear Elly, Thank you very much for this beautiful recipe. I haven’t tried it yet but I have the feeling, it will be great. If I want to double the recipe, will it be like the following: - Olive Oil 1.326 g - Coconut Oil 156 g - Castor Oil 78 g - Water 300 g - Lye 215 - 12 teaspoons orange zest - 30 ml orange essential oil Do you think it will be fine making it this way? Thank you very much, Hafsa
Hi Elly! I got all smart arsed and tried adding honey to this recipe. I got something wrong in the making process and it didn't turn out how I thought it would(ie disaster!) which serves me right. However I sent it out to my test group and it's the one they all love?!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sod's law hey? 👍
Thank you! A friend has just sent me a large bag of lavender from her house in Provence(I know - it's like a massive eye roll isn't it? I am so jealous) So l'm powdering some down tomorrow to see how that turns out...........?
I made this recipe over a year ago when I was a newbie. I used orange fragrance oil, not knowing the difference between essential and fragrance oils. The orange fragrance oil smelled exactly like gummy bears. I have since purchased orange essential oil and it smells like it is supposed to! Oranges!! It was a very pretty soap though!
Hi there! Thank you so much for this recipe it looks lovely! and I'm so glad to see a recipe with more olive oil... can you please tell me how long is the cure time on this? I see that you're enjoying it after 15 months, but how quickly can it start being used? I've read pure olive oil recipes may need 6 months to 1 year to be fully cured! eek... I'm hoping with a little coconut oil and castor, this would be faster than that??
Hi, Elly! 🤗 You are amazing how you share with us all your experiences with the soap and not only! Please tell me if the oils are cool withouth warm them or are warm? Must to be the same temperature with the lye solution, or not? Thank you again for everything! 🙏❤
